Had a good weekend. Some friends and I drove up to a train station in Chatsworth, about 60 miles north, then rode to Santa Barbara via 4 passes, 91 miles, 6800 feet of elevation. Great riding, great climbing (and racked up my only rapha rising challenge climbing feet, almost 30% in one ride
).
One canyon we climbed was Balcom Canyon, from the easy side with short wall about 1/4 mile long at almost 20%. Coming down the otehr side on the "real" Balcom wall, however, was scary as sh%%.. Regular pitches of 20+, The Tour of California came up this a couple years back, friend there said a guy attacked and then suddenly just stopped on a steep pitch. Google Tour of California and Balcom and you'll see vids and photos.
My hands were literally shaking at the bottom..... Can't tell how bad it is from the pic

One of my best moments as a cyclist, one of the guys is a very good cyclist and climber. Always rides away from me (weighs a good 40 pounds less too). On the fourth climb, we were together for a bit in front of everyone else, he started pulling away, I thought he was gone, but I put in a couple hard efforts and rode back up to him, he dragged me to the top. He said he was nearly at his limit without going into full pain mode and was surprised I bridged that gap

Took the train home from Santa Barbara in our smelly clothes
Yesterday swam 4 miles without a westuit. Interesting having the Garmin now, I can see the time difference. Was about 7 seconds slower per hundred than with the wetsuit. On that topic, interesting post by Tim Andrus on ST. http://www.timandrusonline.com/blue-seventy-wetsuit-test/wetsuit-results/ Anyone that says a wetsuit does not make them faster is doing something seriously wrong.
Finished up with a hilly 6 mile run in the afternoon, which I could have done without.....
