Yeah, but look at the logs from when you were a kid..... The rest of us have some catching up to do!

I wish I had them.  I don't remember what we did but I'm sure being in the pool 8-9 times/week added up to a lot.

Welcome back Melissa!

Just checked my logs, topped out at 67K for a month last summer training for the 10K swim.  Would NOT want to be doing that consistently, it was an F of a lot of swimming......Mostly long 3, 4 and 5 mile OW swims.  Lots of 5K days in the pool as well

This morning I hit my Oceanside goal weight of 190.  thinking perhaps to try to drop to 185, I have 30 days left.  Don't want to compromise training, but still looking for that fine line between maintaining my power but getting light as possible.  I am sitting in the office wearing size 30 jeans (and wearing them well!!), can't recall when I was wearing jeans this size, certainly earlier than high school.

It's funny, when I was 240#, I always thought I'd look like a holocaust survivor at a "normal" BMI.  Funny what denial can do for you.

Welcome back Melissa!

Good luck Yanti!

Awesome job with the weight loss.

You know the old saying...as you get closer to race day, there are less and less things you can do to make improvements...but there are a whole lot of things you can do to screw it up.  Don't do anything drastic, keep the focus on training and eating well.  Weight is almost to the point where "it is what it is".  30 days out is a great time to be at race weight, and will allow your body to "settle" at that weight.

I second this. Huge congrats on the weight loss!

5 lb in a month seems like a lot when you have already been losing. Maybe just keep doing what you are doing and if that means losing a little, great!

I have no idea what you asked, but I am certain "buy your wife a horse" is the correct answer.

Ok, seriously, I answered there, and there a ton of variables, but I think the brief shift in focus for the fall would do you some long-term good, both mentally and physically. FWIW you may have picked the wrong time to ask a serious question in TT though. It is a Friday, and everyone (including me) is fretting over the various Yanti threads. And I still gotta get to the track.....

I broke 80k for each of July & August last summer. It was interesting, but it really wreaked havoc on my biking and some with the run.

I'm actually lighter and can't get into a 30! But really, going along with what Jason said, I wouldn't really target trying to lose weight in the last weeks leading up. Continue to be healthy and what happens happens. My body needs time to get used to being at a lower weight, otherwise my energy actually goes down and I'm worse off than keeping the last couple lbs on.

Well I appreciate the answers thus far. I am relatively new to running yet have some far reaching goals so I am constantly feeling like I need to check that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.

I didn't even think about the timing of posting in TT. Better luck next time.

Now to check craigslist for horses...

Kevin....SO Sorry about Car thing. I didnt even get hurt a couple weeks ago,  and i still see dogs coming at me when riding. Were u riding at night, for real ? just curious.

Anyone any comment on pepper spray vs. mace ? I have mace. uh..for dogs not drivers.

Sorry if i ignore some of the other good posts. I dont hv internet at home i have to drive out to catch wifi and im always rushed ( who isnt right?) lol

My race for this summer opened for sign ups. I am signing up in case its a sell out. Its 500 swim, 12 m bike, 2 mile run. Wish it was longer but the intermediate distance is too much of a jump for me, with my shoulder thing going on. Maybe next year.

My job for today was cancelled so i did..... a NOT JEALOUS AREND....noon bike ride with a run immediately after. I hate that first few seconds of running "did i push too hard on the bike?" zombie shuffle. Second lap around the park I get my running legs. Getting a better feel for that now.

Thanks for great animal pics Africa. The REAL runners  !

Did you get the run in? Morning run went well for me, except for developing a blister which I proceeded to end up popping on the easy 2nd run later. Haven't had one of those in a few years. Skipping my swim now too.

Yes, the run was fantastic!  It's the first run since the HM where I felt like I could just run and not feel some fatigue and not worry about my hamstring.  I also got to try my headlamp in the dark for the first time, it was awesome!  I'm sure I would blind anyone coming at me but I could see everything!

GoFaster - 2013-03-01 11:21 PM 36 min on the treadmill - mix of walk/run, achilles felt ok.  How long before I try again?

I've gone every day with the calf issues before. Went in the next couple times at no more than what I did the first day, maybe less even as we tend to feel great when starting off something and build too fast. That way the accumulated fatigue of several workouts didn't really grow much at all. The idea was to be able to do something consistently, even if it didn't really feel like I did much of anything. If the rehabbing spot ever felt like it was even remotely working in the early goings, I'd go to a walk immediately or I would call it a day.

I'm not quite sure if you should go every day as what I've dealt with wasn't quite the same, but this would be the basic idea of what I'd do.

Dustytrails, it was about 5:45 in the morning and all my reflective gear and lights were on. Just one of those things. Could have been much worse. When I get my mri results next Tuesday, if all is good then I'm hoping to try going on the river trail until my arm is better and I can use the left brake lever. Probably use my folder since it's easy to move around, just sneakers etc. People are betting against me I'm done after this. Just gives me a greater challenge to get back out there, under my wife's new rules of course.

Words to live by.

I had a great 1:25 on the bike with a set of 3 x 15' followed by a nice 30' run today.  I thought my legs might be a bit tired from the bike but I felt like a million bucks!

Flip Turns - 5 years in and I've given these a go a couple of times, but quit pretty quickly cause I didn't like the water up my nose.  I want to try and get this right this time and then decide if I like doing them or not.

Messed around in the pool for a few minutes this morning, and still getting a nose full of water - actually it's more that I can't clear anything from my nose.  Here's the sequence (only trying a somersault at the moment):

  • Begin to flip, and am exhaling out my nose, nothing too violent or rapid
  • Get to the 1/2 way round and can see the top of the water, but can't exhale anymore

It's like I get half way round and then my nose is just plugged.  I come up, and my nose just feels awful, and makes me want to avoid trying it again.

I know I'm missing something, I just don't know what.

Did a metric century ride yesterday and have finally accepted that I have some issues that really need to get worked out if I want to train for a HIM (which, technically, I am -- even though I'm still on the wait list).

I posted a thread in TT and thought I might see if anyone here has some suggestions / thoughts for me as well: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=479563&posts=9#M4644260

Did my first post-surgery "run" today -- 4min walk / 1min run intervals for 45 minutes.  Knee doesn't feel great, but also doesn't feel awful.  Off to stretch, roll, and ice for a bit.
