Good ride for me--but the drivers in my area are idiots.  JOGO T.I.T.S.

My latest theory is the higher end sports car or lower end the redneck pick up the less likely the driver is to share the road.  Put the same driver in an average guy car and he's patient to share.  Really....why pass me if you are turning left in less than 100 feet?

Jogo done. Great 5k with DS1. He enjoyed it and only walked the water stops. Then he really picked it up as we started on the track for the final stretch.

Here's a pic he took at the start.

Friday, I was a verb.  Yesterday I was a jo "ho".  Today I am T.I.T.S., which if anyone has ever seen me in person, you know that is usually what people remember about me.  Wink

Made me laugh....and my daughter (who is extremely literal like Amelia Bedelia the beloved kids book maid) didn't get it...sad.  19 years old and that clueless.  Academically quite smart, socially a bit clueless.

The sprint was good.  My time was 1:08:xx.  It was great to be at an event with a team.

I'll post more details once I get details on the splits.  The bike and run were ok.  My T1 was awful.  And I freaked on the swim.  What should have taken me 6 minutes or less took me 8.  But it's all good!  I did get an extra boost from my neon yellow shoelaces.

Of course you did.

Great time! I'm looking forward to the race report.

Glad to hear a couple good reports from racing Manatees! My two races went well, relatively speaking, given the HOT weather here. My duathlon was good for the most part, 1st 5K went well, I was trying to run hard enough to make up for how slow I was certain I would be in the 2nd run, without using up al my legs. The bike was ok, I started out really strong but then got pretty gassed with about 6 miles to go (it was 17 mi bike). I finished strong though. The 2nd run was brutal, it was just so hot, the section in the woods was shady but the air was so stagnant. I had to walk a couple of times. Then a lady passed me who I had passed on the bike and I decided to hang with her at a zombie death shuffle and managed to run the last 1/2 mile at a decent pace. THey had cool misters at the finish - awesome!! BUT, I was 3/12 in my age group (last year I was 7/7) and I shaved 5:30 minutes off my time from last year! Not bad, consdering how brutally hot it was! :)

THe race today was equally tough. It wouldn't have been as bad because it wasn't quite as hot, but the race didn't start until 11am - way too late for a hot day. A lot of the race was in direct sun, there were a couple times I thought my head was gonna burst! IT was a shuffle. I did have my friend with me today, so that kept me running. ALone, I totally would have walked. Also, I was not paying attention and tripped on a flourescent yellow cone and almost took out another runner! KLUTZ!! BUt, most importantly, I finished and that meant I was able to get my Will Run for Beer Series wind jacket!! It was the ONLY reason I actually did the race (alhtough it turns out they don't even have the finish info and they give you your jacket, so technically I could have sat in the shade for 30 minutes and then gone and picked it up! Ahh well, that's not the HTFU Manatee way!)

I kept meaning to come back to this one. Ben, how long have you been involved with Tri's? I have finally started (after 2 years) to add some intensity into rides and into some runs. And I find it interesting that you are taking some out. I tried to add some about 1.5 years ago, but I screwed up my knee a bit.   I think trying to change my running stride helped do the knee in as well. Rest and then slow regular running brought it back around, and I am being very careful now to not injure myself.

I took an easy day today. Hubby was home, so I ran for 40 minutes this morning before church. I will hit it hard again tomorrow, "hard" being a relative term, of course.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I had a great day today--we went out for breakfast at our fave little hole in the wall.  Then we ran a couple errands, then came home and had a little nap.  Next, we went off to Deas Island for a combo dog walk/run for me.  The weather was gorgeous.  Then home for some gardening (my veggie patch has 2 foot weeds in it...), an IPA, then I played with the little baby dog in the yard, including me planking and her practicing my jumps over me Laughing.  Good times!

Fun morning at a petting zoo with the kids. I'm pretty sure I got my jogo in during the 2 1/2 hours we were there... walking around acres of farm/ park. But just to make sure, I ran my 4.6 mile loop this evening.

This will be my 5th season. And with regards to intensity, I meant for that day as I'm getting a better handle on how hard I should be working various types of workouts. I have a power meter for the bike and use that (and the stats associated with it) to help quantify various aspects of the bike workouts. Last year I ended up trying to do a lot of the bigger, longer Saturday rides up around 78% FTP or so. This year I'll keep it down with the exception of some planned rides, such as the big one a couple weeks ago. Yesterday was ~73% and I'll likely ride more of them around there. Last year I burnt up a bit, so trying to be more careful with that. So it wasn't *hard* as in threshold (or Z4) work, but rather more difficult. I need to be a little more careful and deliberate with this as my volume should be going up substantially from where it is now.

Have you been following the logged rides much? I'll be riding a bit less hard on the bigger, longer ones, but will be doing more work closer to threshold on others. Typically the weekday rides. This could also be seen as lower Z4. With the power, I can be more exact with where I'm working as there is no delay in the readings, like with HR. This is a little lower than what I did last year when I went hard, but I'll be putting in more time there. Making those workouts bigger. Like maybe 3 x 20 at lower 90% instead of 2 x 20 at higher 90's as a % of FTP. I'll still work my way up into doing some things higher, but probably not quite as often as before.

This kind of brings up a question I've had about others here in logging their bike workouts. And that is with how effort is being determined? I've looked at a number of them and mostly see time and/or distance put in, but not much in the way of how hard the ride was. Certainly not expecting anything with the detail that I may put in, but didn't really see much that was recognizable. Like RPE or HR (or sprint effort, Oly effort, etc), or that many were pushing too much at all. Running is fairly simple with mostly easy (being *about* the same effort) and sometimes hard (which was written in when done). Swimming is sorta simple there too as for most anyone here it'll be safe to assume the main sets are hard or moderately hard. But the bike can vary quite a bit more. Swimming and running can also trace volume down to duration fairly well with fairly steady speed or pacing, but that doesn't work as well with the bike for a few reasons. And if you can't tell, the bike is definitely my favorite of the three. Smile

Jogos have continued. Thursday was a near miss, but I decided to count the game of softball I played.  Did my workouts on the other days.

I really want to thank all the Manatee Stalkers... The inspires, checking in, and kicking me in the butt when needed really do motivate and inspire me. While I don't do this sport for others - I do like to know that others care.

I really appreciate it - so a big heart felt THANK YOU.  (in Oregon Ducks Colors :) )

I put a new saddle and new tires on my bike, so I thought I would share. Love the Saddle, and I must admit - if ever there was a bike that was made for red tires, it is mine. They look even better than I had hoped!!

JOGO update..

Going to have to start over at 2/2.  Totally forgot that I put of my training on Friday in favor of hanging out with friends, drinking beer and eating pizza.  Don't be hatin'

I was thinking about this on my last ride. For me, the problem is that I go completely by RPE, and I think most of us (read: I) overestimate how hard we are working. My rides feel hard, and I believe some of them are, especially with the wind we've been having. But I don't have an objective metric. I can calculate the mph after I get home, but even that doesn't really describe how hard (or not) I was working because of other factors (wind, terrain, road conditions). I am considering that maybe I need a power meter because the power output (if I understand it correctly) would be the clearest indicator of how hard I am actually working. But even as I type that, I am cringing. I don't really want a power meter. Maybe I'm afraid of what it will tell me about my output. Undecided

X2. I have a "Suckage Scale" to kind of keep track of the amount of effort, RPE if you will. I am getting better at judging how strong the effort has been, and I am now adding in intervals, sprints, etc. I have just started in the past few weeks to try to quantify what is going on while biking, probably the result of the Strava app. In the past it has just been "get on and ride", but now I have some comparisons that I can do, both with myself and with others.  As well, I am not much of an equipment person, I run with an old Timex Ironman watch and bike with a Cateye, so a HRM or PT would be a HUGE step for me, and I'm not sure I am ready to, or want to go there.

BTW, Felicia, some of the winds you ride in make me cringe.

Right now, I'm just getting on the bike and riding how I feel.  At the end of the month I will start HIM training and then will be doing a more structured bike workout.  I do have a heart rate monitor, but have never really figured out my zones.  For this HIM, I've picked up one of the Endurance Nation plans and it has FTP and LTHR testing, so i will need to try and capture them.

Congratulations on both of your races.  I want pictures of that jacket!

I think that you may have had worse head that we did here in NC.  Way to dooe eeet!

Woo hoo!  Family Manatee Racing!

10K went very well. I'm shocked. Yay me. Run/walked before and after to hit a 2:15 long run which was scheduled today ... so like a LSD with a nice peppy tempo thrown in near the beginning after a warmup.

I also took 50 pictures (yes, even during the 10K! not a race!). I have no idea how that happens ... well ... piglets and such interesting things abounded.

It was also by a long shot the absolute best-organized race I've ever been to, in every detail from A-Z.

P.S. And this in Indonesia. I didn't think that was possible. NOTHING is well-organized here, EVER, nor on time (even when it would be, the thousand factors like traffic, the dependence on so many different entities/parties to put an event on, etc. usually means at least one ball gets dropped). I think I experienced a bizarre time warp miracle here.

Seriously, 37 years and I've never seen anything like that here.

Congratulations!  I saw the picture on FB and you looked so happy with that piglet beside you...  Huh, I just went back and looked.  Garmin Indonesia posted that.

Good work on the 10k, great  job following the training plan.

Maybe Jakarta is more organized than Bali?  (or are those fighting words?)
