Master 2411![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Goodyear, AZ | Subject: RE: Fred D Mentor Group - Part IIWhat is this "winter" that you speak of? It's 101 degrees here today Sounds like everyone had a good weekend of training. I am slowly feeling better. My legs feel sooo fresh but my lungs do not, I'm still coughing a lot. I did the usual Sat group ride but only the first half, I cut it short to get to my kid's games (soccer and football) but also because I just wasn't close to 100% yet. Today I checked out a ride at a new tri store in Tempe (Trisports), it was a nice flat, social ride but too far a drive to make it a habit (I usually refuse to drive to go on a ride). Looking forward to the new thread Sally |

The first 55' I rode very easy and wasn't feeling very strong. Rode a flatter (for where I live segment that is about 40 miles total, but it is an out and back, 1,604' for 40 miles). I decided to ride the second half harder, although not all out by any means. I have done this segment at 21.7mph in the past with a good effort. Today was better. Let's just say that this bike is fast! If you keep posting rides like that, I'm going to need a new bike. I would appreciate it if you would slow down just a bit! |

Guess I need to make a call to Garmin to figure out what's up. It originally started with my 305 but the 910XT is not reading speed either. I've changed the battery, played with the alignment, pairing it fresh and nothing has worked. It is weird that I get cadence. Hopefully Garmin can help me Kim,

Master 4119![]() ![]() ![]() Toronto | Subject: RE: Fred D Mentor Group - Part IIHey guys - hope everyone had a great weekend! I see all the discussion about the winter thread and I am not sure I'll be in but i know it will be as lively as ever. Fred, that's awesome that your bike is so very fast! As for me, I did a 25k trail race on Saturday. It was a really beautiful setting but i wasn't really prepared for the trails. I still had a great time with my running buddy and we treated it as a low-pressure event. I felt really good at the beginning but definitely burned myself out a little with all the running and passing people at the start. I had lots of walks on the second half. We had fun by stopping at a camp site on the second loop for bacon that was being cooked for breakfast! We chatted with a couple of people - one guy doing the 50k from Petawawa (military), another in a kilt. We sang along as one guy was belting out 'Roxanne' near to the end. all in all, a great experience. I definitely recommend this race to people in my neck of the woods. They even do a really tasty catered lunch after the race ... I guess next year it will be the Canadian 50k championship. |

Any news from Elaine and Superfrog ? Good timing! I did the swim - 2nd in my AG, not sure about overall. The waves were pretty rough and I had a ton of fun. I spent the rest of the day walking around and watching my friends finish the race. Managed to not just feel sorry for myself My friend doing her first Half Iron finished in 5:50, and another friend got 6th overall with a 5:17. And, of course, Lance was there. In a speedo. Today - I'm going to run 20-30 minutes to test out the knee. |

He rolled in with an entourage of like 8 people - all carrying his bike, gear, etc. It was crazy - but luckily it never got out of control. We watched him roll by a few times on the bike course (with a camera man on him every time), and watched him finish. It was actually kind of cool because a lot of people in the area just stopped by because they heard he would be there. Like him or hate him, he's a common household name and he's bringing attention to triathlon. Of course, you might not like the extra attention |

Ran twice at 9km since the massage earlier in the week, and the leg felt fine. But last night I planned to run 13km, and had to start walking at km 10. Don't know why it didn't get fixed with the last massage the same way it has in the past. Trying not to dwell on this too much, but last time it was really bad it wrecked my run training for months - I don't want that to be the case again. |

I know I had to really strengthen my hips to get it to not come back. And I had to stay with those exercises. Still took about 6 months total I think to get 100% better but I could at least run through it all with regular ART visits. |

We were standing there and this big guy with two bags walked by, then Lance, then a guy carrying the bike. He was more watching people to make sure he didn't get mobbed although he was so discrete nobody really noticed him. He did acknowledge people at least. It's funny. I did my first round of coaching certification this weekend. we had to work on 4 "ethical" scenarios. Two of the 4 became conversations about him. Doping was one, racing in unsanctioned events was the other. Coaching is a lot more that knowing when to taper and handing out workouts. |

Just some pictures from my weekend bike ride! Its taper week for me! Yay!. Its getting cold here now...they were talking about the bad "s" word today....they said hopefully we would make it through the next few days without any....I hope so....I don't think it is quite cold enough but I tend to fall asleep and then wake up to a blanket of white stuff sometimes... ITBS has to be the most frustrating injury. When I first started getting into tris and running I had ITBS. I tried all the usual stuff and PT, what finally helped was taking a month off and when I started back running I ran no more than 2-3 miles at a time, that would be 4-5 km to you Hope yours heals quickly! |

I saw an article where he discussed his bike out there: "I looked at my power meter and halfway through I was at a 331 average and figured I don’t want to go any harder anyways so I’ll stay here and roll the dice on the run." Ouch. |
