Have a group question - What kind of running shoes do you wear?  I am currently wearing some Mizuno Wave Elixir's for training and Saucony Fastwitch for races.  I am considering making a switch.  I need a neutral shoe with a little support.  My birthday is coming up in a couple weeks and I know I am getting another pair of shoes from my parents and I already have a gc for my running shop to use.

I think I read while skimming the last ten pages yesterday, someone asked about bike shoes.  I use the Specialized Trivents and love them.  Tri specific, two straps, drain for water, and no socks needed.  A+

asics 21xx and brooks adrenaline x.  i've got almost 150 miles on the newest set of brooks, most i've gotten out of any shoe in a long time.   no specific reason for two different shoes.  both are comfortable. just whatever i feel like buying that day.

Adidas adistar Salvation .. Love em. I've been running in these for the past few years and they feel great.  they correct my pronation very well.

Now using Brooks Glycerin 7's - I don't have a lot of mileage on them yet.

DougRob - 2010-01-20 8:08 AM Wow, Suzy has usually posted by now! Since she has not I'll ask the SUzy wednesday question:

Who's racing this weekend?

Hey

If you are going to take over my job at least do it with a little pizzaz!

So, who is toeing the line this weekend?  what are your stretch goals?  And if you aren't racing what is your one focus workout of the weekend?  And yes, I said one!

Chris-I wear Brooks Adrenaline and have been for years.  They technically fall under the stability category, but they are for mild overpronators.

Trevor- I have heard so many mixed reviews of Zoots and Newtons. What is the rationale behind getting them?

We are celebrating our 10 yr anniversary this weekend....wow has time flown!  So we thought about going back to Fiji, where we honeymooned (very romantic), or go on a cruise.  Our choice...take our 8yr, 7 yr & 6 yr old kids on a Disney Cruise.

So my focus for the next few days is getting everyone packed and on board with everything they "need".  Harder than packing for any tri I've done

swbkrun - 2010-01-19 8:17 PM Tracy... Race your seat on your Trek!  Get AERO!!!

I took care of that a while ago, the photo is from when I first got the bike.  Seat hight didn't change to much but bars were extended and dropped.  Even the Madone got an aero re-fitting.  WATCH OUT, MAMMA IS AERO NOW!!!!

Everyone tell me what a wonderful wife I am.   Since I will be doing my first IM in 2011, this season is all about the hubby.  He just signed with a coach, is looking at power meters and I bought him a brand new jonny wetsuit to start his season of "going long".  For someone who claims to be a natural sprinter he is getting too damn good at endurance racing.   So this year I am looking forward to being the primary photographer and race sherpa.    Please excuse me while I go render first aide to my pocket book.  Cry

Linda i heard Disney Cruises are amazing, great for kids and adults.  You guys are going to have a blast..

Trevor..  i have a pair of zoots and I would have to say they're not for everyone.  If you're going barefoot in them be prepared for huge blisters.  Most people I know who have these shoes get them.  The only time I wear them is when I go to the gym and do a swim and short run and I end-up wearing a thin pair of socks.

CT status update..  So the guy I bought it from sent me all new cables and I still have the same problem!  I lose connection after 30 sec into a course..  So now the guy I bought it from is coming to my apt with another head unit and motor thing on Friday (over an hr drive for him).  This guy redefines the definition of service, especially since this is used!  hopefully we can get it going.

I'm racing this weekend!  Race #4 in the Frostbite Series, a 4 miler Saturday morning.  Thankfully the weather is supposed to be much better than it was for the last race.  Temps in the mid to upper 30's, although there is a chance for rain.  Still better than the 0*, negative wind chills from 2 weeks ago!  And I think my daughter is going to join me for this one Smile

Running shoes for me - Nike Vomero (which reminds me, I need to get a new pair soon).

I see alot people wearing them here in the races I've done. Now mind you these were all sprints and Oly's. I think once you hit the 1/2 distance, chances are you're not going sockless and the importance on 10 secs in transition doesn't really matter to most of us. Maybe they just seem to be the 'trendy' tri shoe.

Linda - Happy Anniversary and enjoy the cruise!

I think things are finally starting to get back to normal.  My son is back at college (although now we have to start thinking about getting housing/financial aid/etc set up for next year - it never ends!), my daughter is back into her normal routine at high school and with classes starting here at work this week, hopefully work will be getting back to normal.  Even the weather is starting to cooperate - temps are coming up although we're getting a lot of fog and rain this week.  I might even be able to try to stay caught up with the groupTongue out

Training is going pretty well.  I think I'm going to try to up my swims to 3x a week instead of just 2.  I want to take at least one day a week to just work on drills - something I don't usually do but I've gotten to the point where I'm really comfortable in the water and just doing laps is getting boring.  I have a decent plan printed out, now I just need to start using it!

Have a great week!
Janet

Brooks Trance for Training
Zoot Ultra's for racing or Brooks T5 Racer

Then there is the trail shoes:
La Sportiva for dry days
Salamon or Montrail Goretex for the wet days!

Absolutely take the kids!  Happy Anniversary!  Funny thing is you will probably not need half of the stuff you are packing.  My goal for our next cruise is to fit a whole week's worth of stuff in a backpack...

Linda--Happy Anniversary!  Hard to believe you have that many kids in 10 years.  We have been married 20 and have zero.

Tracy-You are a great wife.  I think supporting your husband through the process is awesome.  Maybe you can get a deal and train with that coach too?!

Bad news on the Shain front--got a call from my boss this morning.  My budget has been cut for the remainder of the fiscal year (today through June).  As a consultant, I am not sure what that means for me, but it is definitely a lot fewer hours.  Never thought the economy would affect me, but it has .  Off to drown my sorrows in the pool.

We did the Disney Cruise in 08'!  It is a blast.  The service you get on this cruise is TOP NOTCH!  You will have a blast!  The treadmills are on the top floor on the front of the ship facing out towards the water!  We would be running and see dolphins jumping in front of you!  Oh- and running outside around the deck (the have a designated lap for runners/walkers) is pretty neat!  It is funny how different you feeling running on one side vs. the other just based on the motion of the boat (or direction I should say- You'll see!).

Tracy- you might be doing all this nice stuff, but he will also return the favor this year by getting you a plane ticket to Seattle so you can go up to Canada, drop $500 for a race that is 12 months away.  So you I think he takes the cake !
