I had to run out to make a soccer game after the race and didn't get to see. 4th overall (out of 450ish), 1st age group and 12 seconds off pr. I needed a good first race of 2012 after missing 2 races being sick. Now back to regular scheduled training...
KICK "A" Chet! Huge congrats! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fantastic results, Brent and Chet! Trevor - I probably would have done the run and gone to the funeral after but then regretted my decision, it's good to be guided by nice people like the ones on this MG sometimes. I did my bike ride, The Mount Cootha Challenge this morning, 85km of very hilly riding. I took Trevor's advice and used my 12-28 and needed all those gears to get up to the top of the big climb. It took about another 20km of riding before I could get my speed back to normal, I kept thinking I had a flat or the brakes were stuck! Anyway, did it in 3hrs 25 and kept the family happy by going round the Brisbane shops for about 4 hours afterwards... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Doug - my sister lives in Heidelberg, she's been there for about 12 years and is very happy. Lots of her friends are from the US and work at the military bases. I'm not sure I would want to live there for ever but 2 years would be a great experience. |

I hate that feeling when you're SURE the brakes are rubbing or you're losing air! Sounds like that was a killer hill. Not only did you have a very tough ride, you went out and ran too? Show off!!! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am home from running the half marathon. Do not know my time but will post it when they post the results on-line. Lets just say I was slow. Saw Tracy out there and that was a great pick-me-up. Word of advice: Do not race after traveling 22.5 hours to get home the day before the race. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() man.. i'm going backwards here... 1:57. had lots of fun though. best part of the race though was jarrett threw down a 1/2 marathon pr and was 15 minutes faster than last year. the pr is cool but that 15 minutes is awesome!!!! that's a really tough course. oh, my watch died about 15 minutes before the start so i just ran on feel. and i didn't fart as much as i thought i would after a few guinness and corned beef and cabbage last night. disappointing. hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is my race report: RR. It is what it is. The race site does not give rankings right now, but they are irrelevant for this race. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Working on my race report, but it's not done yet. Here's the quick synopsis. I had a good solid race and finished in 58:24. A time that I would have been thrilled with a year before. I'm pleased with it, but I do feel like I played it a little safe. I had pretty much decided before the race what I was capable of (beating 1 hour) and not capable of (setting a pr: 56:33). I proved myself right. Not unhappy about it. Just not thrilled. Had fun though! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the support MG. If it is not clear from my RR, I am in a good place with regard to the race. It was just meant to be a glorified training day. So no worries. Happy I ran and ok with the result. |

Great job Jayne. While I am sure I would have done the same thing you did and run through a chest cold, it isn't necessarily the best thing to do, especially with a race at hand. Please get a lot of sleep, eat well and take a step back from your training. You compromised your immune system a little more with that effort. We want you in tip top shape for the half! |

![]() Congrats all racers! Some PR's, some close to PR's - nice!! Volunteering as a course captian for a marathon is an incredible experience. Started out tough. Friday I was struck with the 12 hr bug my daughter had this week so I spent the day in bed - my husband went to the pre-race log mtg in my place. Saturday I spent most of the day picking up rental trucks and loading supplies for race aid stations. Today I was at the race at 5:45 and didn't get home until after 4, and never stopped moving. I really didn't have an opportunity to see many of my friends racing, but there are a lot of memories/experiences I'll take from today. I've never volunteered in a position like this - highly recommend it. Totally gives a nice perspecitve of what all is involved. Solid logistics are key! One of my aid stations was supported by the baseball team for NC State (great group of guys). Glad to see their team qualify for the sweet sixteen...and they got "home" in time for the game. Off to recover |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Felt good today for my race, conditions were a bit too sketchy for me, 75 guys racing avg 25mph for nearly 40 miles on a 2 lane road where you're not allowed to go over the yellow line. Of course a bunch of a-holes did coming up to the final climb, heard lots of carbon and skin hitting the deck when everyeone spread out. Unfortunately I was a bit too far back at the base of the hill and had to weave around a bunch of guys that couldn't go fast enough up the hill and then sat up a bit after I knew I was too far back for podium and heard the crash, so I think I finished 20th or so.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What a fantastic weekend for the racers in the MG! Great job all! So ? for the long course racers; anyone not use gel in their nutrition plan? I'm finding I prefer solid food on the bike and liquids on the run. I know its mostly personal preference but I'm wondering if this type of strategy might come around to bite me. Been using powerbar gel bc that's what was on course for my HIM last yr but my tummy doesn't love them. Would it be worth trying a difference brand such as GU roctane since it looks like that's the new gel on course for IM? ETA: Anyone like Clif Shotblox? I have two packages of cran-razz which I will NOT be using. Edited by mighty mom 2012-03-19 7:52 AM |

Would it be worth trying a difference brand such as GU roctane since it looks like that's the new gel on course for IM? ETA: Anyone like Clif Shotblox? I have two packages of cran-razz which I will NOT be using. A race partner of mine trained and raced only with the on course nutrition for our IM last year. Come race day her stomach didn't want that and she didn't have any other options. Lesson learned, make sure you can take what is on the course (or not) but prepare for variety. I also prefer my nutrition solid on the bike but couldn't do heavy bars. What worked well for me was apple slices, beef jerkey, peanut butter crackers, water, and gel. All the solids helped keep the gels settled. I had planned for gels and on course food for the run but couldn't do any gels by then. Went 26.2 on pepsi and orange slices. I think experimenting with variety works well. I know it can be a pain to carry all that stuff but you'll never know what sounds good on race day so you can pitch what isn't woriking easily enough. Just my two cents. Let me know what works. I'm always looking for nutrition ideas. I still haven't been able to eat beef jerkey since Canada last fall! |
