Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SSMinnow - 2012-07-11 3:46 AM It might be early, but it's still Wednesday! I know of at least one of our favorite girls giving it her all this weekend, so who's planning to join her? We want the details!
My first HIM!! Racine is on Sunday. 4 more days! Right now I am BEYOND EXCITED but for the past week I have been yo-yo-ing from crazy excited to being a nervous nelly. I know the work is done and I just need to go out on Sunday have have a great race.I did some running and swmiming yesterday and I could tell that my energy is coming back and that the fatigue is going away. That makes me happy! Going to drive up to Racine on Saturday morning and do my best to stay off my feet. |

Good luck to David, Tony, Melissa, George and anyone else racing this weekend! It's that time of year again. Sunday will be my 4th time racing Vineman 70.3 and I am feeling pretty good about things. I feel better than I ever have about my swimming...and quite good about my bike. The run is going to be a bit of a mystery at this point, but I am game to give it my best. This week has been the best my foot has felt in what has been a long a$$ journey back to pain free running. I have a bit of a strategy for the run that involves some walking for the first 3 miles, but depending on how it feels after that, anything goes! Driving up on Saturday and hoping to get into the river for a short swim, then packet pickup, etc. Hoping the weather stays relatively cool (high of 85 forecast), which is about what it was last year. Still waffling on my clothing!!!! Pink top with flourescent yellow shoes? Or my graphite top. Ah, the details!!! Happy Wednesday all! |

I am "racing" the Musselman Tri on Sunday. I am undertrained (< 50% of what I did last year) and not very optimistic about time but looking to go out and get my money's worth! Two potential saving graces - it should be about 10º cooler this year and last year I walked most of the run due to stomach issues so with a slow jog or run walk combo, I still have a shot at a PR! Kris is racing the sprint on Saturday and hopefully Tommy will race the kids Tri that afternoon. I go on Sunday. Good luck to all the racers. I am sure you will all rock! ETA - And I know what I am wearing!

I know of at least one of our favorite girls giving it her all this weekend, so who's planning to join her? We want the details! I'm doing an Oly on Sunday. It is an race I did two years back with a time of 3 hours 9.5 minutes. It is an unusual race - when you come out of the swim, you put on your running gear and run about 1.5 km to T1. That run is included in the bike leg. I think they knock 1.5 km off the bike. The bike course starts out with a series of short climbs - up about 170 meters in 2.5 km with a couple 10% and a couple 12% grade inclines. I am going to try and take it easy on those climbs. Good luck to everyone else who is racing!! |

Soon, likely. But no races around family travel for me! Lots of racing!! HIMs!! Olys!! 10Ks!! Tear it up out there, peeps!! No racing here! Big party at my house Friday. Big swim meet early Saturday (Thing 1 swimming, me judging). Lose Thing 2 to a 3-night camp Saturday afternoon. R&R on Sunday!!! And lots of cheering and reading of race reports! I know my bike needs lots of work so I might become a cyclist who does the occasional run for the next month or two!? All this talk about DC has got me thinking about coming over for a family vacation next year and running the Marine Corps Marathon??? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() WOW, I leave for a day and the world explodes with good news of people racing!!!! So excited to see the results and know each and everyone of you is ready to kick some butt, even our sometimes-around George! Yesterday was the first of my two BIG DAYS for IM which consists of an 1:10 swim/90' off/5 hour ride/90' off/2 hour run. This is only the second time I've done one of these with my coach, but they are sooooo valuable in working through physical and mental fortitude AND nutrition. We go to the hilliest darn area of Wisconsin, the Baraboo Bluffs with three climbs (that I get to do twice) and are a) tougher than IM WI and b) actually considered mountains (weird, right?). Get to do the run here too . Oh boy! All in the name of making me tougher for the big dance in September. If you are training for IM and your coach or you see fit to insert one of these in your day I highly recommend it. My biggest learning was on the nutrition front. We performed sweat rate tests on both the ride and run and the amount of H20 I need to take in to perform is 30% greater on the ride and a whopping 50% greater on the run in upper 80 temps which is likely for IM. I felt like I was drinking all of the time. Also totally dumped the SE/Gel I was using on the bike in favor of a low malodextrin Infinit formula. It too worked, with the exception of taste fatigue on the run (which happens with anything I use). I tell you all of this so those training for long course can consider options while they still have time to test them! |

Wow, that sounds like a really tough day and to imagine doing it in the hills is a bit incomprehensible. But, a year ago, I would have had no idea what you were even talking about I made an appointment for next Monday. Going to try to get to the bottom of my issues I've been having with my lower legs and feet. This all flaired up when I did my ultra running month of April. Been trying to work through it on my own, but I'm getting impatient. Hoping the doc can hook me up with a good PT. I have a feeling this isn't going to be the first time I'm going to need one. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() WHAT'S UP MG PEEPS?! I'm BACK! Gone for a couple months and you guys blow thru a hundred pages... I'm not going back to catch up. The school I was attending was much more demanding than I had anticipated. Lots of time with my nose in the books, writing papers and prepping speeches/briefings. Got in a some good weekend workouts along with the regimented PT schedule but not nearly what I should have been doing. Oh, and the humidity in Montgomery Alabama is not for the faint of heart! That air was dense... it was like running with a gas mask on! Only 65 days until the AF Marathon... guess I'll start training now Anyways, good to be back! |

HA! Now I finally have some motivation to start training. Bring it on - I'll be ready for you. No racing for me this weekend - just lots of drinking. It could get ugly. Lobster Feast party at our neighborhood pool with 8 other couples. The night starts with beer and wine then the shots come out. And this year one of our neighbors is hosting an after party once they kick us out of the pool. Good luck racers! Sounds like lots of fun races this weekend. Kim - one of these years we will make it to Vineman. :-) |

The 90' allows you to get some fueling in and recover a bit. I think the hardest part is the wait between the bike and the run. It really can make you stiffen up. The thought is if you can run on those legs, you can run on IM day. If you want any thoughts on the fueling protocol I used for those 90' shoot me an email. |
