New user 178 | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! Week started out well with a 8.3 mile run on Monday. Sadly, I wimped out the rest of the week due to weather conditions and the TM deciding it's too cold to work. Then over the weekend my back decided it wants a break. It's feeling a little better today, but it reminds me its hurt every time I take a step with my right foot. Taking as much time off as needed for this heal up. 58 miles and change for the month. Not gonna make 100. Scott |

1439 | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! 8 miles with 8 strides just to stretch the lags out. Last speed work before the 100 miler Saturday. I did this on the treadmill in the garage at 80 degrees because that is the forecasted temp for Saturday in Florida and it is 8 degrees outside with very strong winds today. I am so looking forward to running outside every day again soon, this treadmill for the last week or so is getting to me. Only a couple of more runs on it though. Off for Florida early Wednesday morning and will get in there Thursday sometime, it is a long drive. |

Ready for spring!! Regardless, plugging away and will most certainly hit 100 of course. Should be around 110 I think. Now on to get going on my swims and bikes! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! Originally posted by popsracer Ran an easy 5 miles tonight. I am backing off this week to recover from cumulative fatigue. Starting to feel much more spring in my step. I'm a little disappointed though because my target race on March 1st is now sold out. I waited too long to register. I'm not sure what to do now. Anyone know of a flat, fast marathon Feb 22 or March 1st preferably somewhere above freezing? Oh crap, that sucks! What race was it? Did you find something else yet? |

Did you find something else yet? It was the Phoenix Marathon. Point to point with significant negative elevation. It had PR written all over it. I might still go down and do the HM. I need some warmer weather. There is a local marathon Feb 15 that is a flat out and back, the Woolley Run, but they get about 40 people and I'm not sure I can really get up for a race of that distance where I'll pretty much be by myself. Got the Lk. Samm HM coming up and Yakima River Canyon marathon first part of April so may have to wait until then to push 26. Edited by popsracer 2014-01-27 2:04 PM |

Veteran 945 South Windsor, CT | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! OVER 100 and CRUISING Ron/navbtcret-269 and counting! still getting a steady diet of running which keeps overall total high as he approaches the 100Miler from the air; have a safe drive down south-outside running for you soon-the heat acclimization will help you more than you think Adrienne/Asalzwed-sails though her 22 M LR with no nutrition (depletion run)-must be a confidence builder as you see you can handle the time/distance and can fine tune nutrition as you like; Boston has a few hills to contend with late in the race and pacing those is key; cutting back a bit now is good; BTW, all 18 milers should be followed by a few beers...just sayin' Tony/tbonanno-swimming a few miles and actually took a day off! Nice to hear that the little one is enjoying other parts of the Y; 175 miles and counting-outstanding! Robert/rjrankin83-over the top and cruising...with 163 miles for the month and the last 20 Miler prior to M day-congrats Steve/popsracer-got shut out of M, but I think you should go down there and PR the 1/2M distance, you know you can...you know you should (and you can recover faster)-enjoying the best month of running ever, along with a medLR with son; tops 156 miles this month-sweeeeet Karl/KWDreamin-hit the goal number of 100 and sending out congrats to others and encouragement to others Mary/Chunga-the running 'machine', per Steve-passes 135 miles and notes that windy and cold is harder-yep, but the added training benefit is unseen until later Brad/MSUBrad-crossed the 100 mile mark if my addition is correct with 102 miles and a solid 34 mile week; careful with that bike-don't aggrevate the Achilles! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt/mambos-is knocking on the door with 94 miles after a 30 mile effort this week; running those progression runs are fun, but be sure to recover enough Jen/midwesttrimom-also at 94 miles as she travels the country and gets the miles in indoors-smart thinking; now heal up from that chest cold! Christina/MechEChick-grinds out 87 miles and approaching the finish line; faster Z2=increased fitness=solid training; I hate wearing through the nylon top-breathable shouldn't mean poorly made-bummer on the shoes Scott/scotttjmtri-now at 58 miles and struggling through back and foot issues; healing up is MUCH more important than any number-never forget it SGirl-nearly healed up hip adductor and rockin' 3Miler with new shoes-Mondays feel good? (not when you have to cover the hospital, like I do on Mondays...) Home stretch for a few more...Stay strong. It's been a fun month-thanks, all. Dale/dtoce-40 miles and healing up with non-impact stuff (bike/swim) until I'm better |

Things are about to change...I'm intending to run a 1/2 marathon this year...and weight lifting will now, take a back seat to my running. I won't give it up, but things will change. Can't squat as much as I was, and keep up a decent pace. Happy running this week, everyone! Hope the temps are warming up for some of you? Edited by SGirl 2014-01-27 8:36 PM |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! Good luck on your big races Ron and Adrienne. I have no doubt you guys are going to be awesome. I think I may have reached my limit. Last night the bottom of my foot got really sore and is still aching today. I thought for sure it would have been a calf or tendon that would have been my weakness. It is the outer padded part of my foot below my toes that feels like someone hit it with a hammer. I think it is bruising from all the pounding. I'm going to just ride tonight and test it tomorrow with an easy 30 minute run tomorrow. I did get some new shoes recently and they definitely do not ride as softly as my last pair so I'm going to switch back to those too. Arghh!! |

And then do things like strides on the grass or turf? |

And then do things like strides on the grass or turf? I'm already doing about 50% or more of my miles on trails. I really think these new shoes just have a weird "hot" spot that my foot is rebelling against. I had to walk a few miles earlier today and it already felt much better. Me thinks just bruising or it would still be more painful. I'm cutting out strides and speedwork until I am sure I am past this. |

Regular 1362 Jenison, MI | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! I've added another 11 miles (3.5, 7.5) so far this week to put myself at 113. Will probably try to get another 10 or so in between today and tomorrow to cross 120 for the month. Pretty darn good for me considering I started the month on a vacation and have been battling some Achilles issues. |

475 | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! 99 miles for the month as of today. Hit this with yesterday's 5 mile speed workout on the treadmill (insert sad face). Can't wait for some fresh air but it was -18 windchill again. Tomorrow I should be back outside. Added 3 bike and 3 swims to the schedule this week so we'll see how all goes. Good luck to those of you racing soon! |

No?? lol Bike miles are too easy, though you get extra credit if it is out in the cold. I think you can count your swim miles; those are a little hard to earn. |

475 | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! Yes! 105 miles after today's run. FINALLY had some decent temps. It was 30 degrees outside but still had the 20-25 mph winds all AM. Tough run but glad to get out and not freeze! We had a solid group of nine runners for some tempo this AM. Thanks for doing this challenge. Maybe we should continue on for February! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: January 100 Mile Run Challenge! Track workout last night. 3 x 2K @ 6:22 (per mile) pace Today AM recovery run, 6 miles and a Mid-day medium run of 9 miles. I may take tomorrow off entirely as I am traveling to LA but we'll see. That being said, my monthly total is 333.5.
Nice work all. Maybe we could all sum up our month and discuss how this challenge helped us with our goals? For me it's been nice for a little accountability of course, and Dale's comments are invaluable. Also, it's great to see all the different types of people and training that running encompases. Such a cool sport! |
