so, the economy is bad, but people are still giving. Extreme makeover home edition was in my area when I was in Italy. The community (which is not that wealthy) not only came together to build the house but she had her mortgage from the one they tore down paid off from donations from the community. Her three sons were given two years college education from the local community college and Michgan State picked up their final two years. They also had someone offer to pay for their ultilities for a year and their homeowners insurance.

Ummm... okay on the HH, but no to the LD... we don't give the sweet stuff in our grocery bags... and as little processed stuff as possible.  

but I can't deliver it, cause I gotta go run right now.

heh.... just got a call from a guy who said he was out of money and on his way down to another small city a little ways South of us... heh... I couldn't buy him a bus ticket cause there's no bus that runs... I offered to buy him lunch... no go he said, "I don't really need that."

So I said, that we simply don't give out cash.  We will buy meals, groceries, bus tickets, or pay utility companies directly... but absolutely no cash.  

His response, "Well, you're no help at all... I'm sorry you simply don't trust anyone and I'm sorry I even called."  THen he hung up on me...

well you know what buddy... this is the help we give.  You don't like it... keep on calling.

JChristoff - 2008-10-08 9:14 AM Sad but true... A guy came up to me in the parking lot of Sam's Club... asks if I have a couple bucks so he can get some gas cause he's short and needs to get home... I say sure... lets go over to the gas station and fuel his car up... he re-nigs. Flash forward another week... It is the same guy... gives me the same line. Kinda makes you wonder... and a little sad.

I've given food to people with signs that say "will work for food" or "need money for food"  to see them walk away with it and throw it away at the first trash can. 

Guess they weren't that hungry.  Shame, cuz it was some pretty tastey leftovers, untouched, that I could have eaten the next day.

I almost gave money to a guy in Boulder that was holding a sign that said "Ain't gonna lie, need beer money."
