Well, well, isn't that a cruel last mile in a HM? Geeze!

I'm looking at this w/o my glasses, but I'll give you cruel and add potential for trouble. Where is it?

Ugh...I hate hairpin turns on a run course...especially because I thrive on rythem and those dam turns bust it up!

Need a swim workout? Andy Potts posted this one today. Ouch.

Yikes! Resuscitation would be required if I even attempted that.  I did, however, hit my 300k target today. Did 3450 with the tri-club over lunch. Really long lunch in my case. I was still at it when some of them were probably back at work. But it got done. And I played around with Jason's cadence suggestions on the trainer this morning. Good day.

Great job on 300k.  I think this year is the most I've swam at ~230k...need to swim more next year.

I was able to recently crack 1000 miles running for the year, and should get over 6500 on the bike by the end of the day.

Ok, you made me look at my totals.  I am glad that I'm not close to any magic totals that I would feel the need to chase.

Here is WA.  It's the tune-up HM I am going to do leading into Boston. It was really the only thing I could find that fits my schedule.

But yeah, nothing is so heartbreaking as a hairpin by the finish - er 4 or 5 of em.

Safe to assume from the looks of it that it is down also? If so, double bleach.

Today's masters workout was fun. We swam every event you would see at a HS swim meet. Longest was 500 free. We individually swam each relay and the 4x100 relay, the last event, was used as a cool down. It was 2750 yards total. Even though I used fins, that 100 fly killed me!

Marc, I know this is from two days/47 pages ago, but I just read your blog and saw that you actually call them your "screw shoes." Everyone that has been in the group for a while know I am a sucker for shoe porn, so you gotta post up a pic of those babies. Which reminds me, I got a new pair for Christmas that I need to get a photo of....

If you google "screw shoes" there are some articles on how to make them, but here is a shot of the sole

These are an old pair of Asic 2160s. I run with K-Swiss normally, but the Asics have a nice thick sole to screw into.

We got a bit of snow yesterday

axteraa - 2012-12-27 9:18 AM [I also stepped on the scale this morning.  I have chosen to not accept the displayed number as fact and will re-evaluate on Monday....

Oh, Arend, I wouldn't worry about it too much this time of the year - I am pretty sure it is just the colder weather. You do know that the density of cold air is MUCH higher than warm air, right? That means there is a lot more air pushing down on the scale this time of year. It gets so cold here sometimes in late December my weight increases as much as 10 pounds over my summer weight! No telling what I would weigh if I lived in Canada...

yesterday Rusty was nice enough to send me words of encouragement that my slow swim times were normal for this time of year. I wonder if there is a scientific explanation like above.

Marc, what are the screw shoes like to run on bare pavement?  We got a bunch of that snow yesterday too but not quite as much as you by the looks of things.

Neil, welcome to the group!

I did a 1500 TT in the pool this morning and went 23 seconds faster than my last attempt with much better pacing.  I'm pretty happy with that, I guess getting my arse kicked by the kids on the swim team is paying off.

They are not bad on asphalt. Much, much better than yaktrax. I find short sections on ashpalt break the yaktrax. They are not very effective in deep snow and almost useless in slush. yaktrax are much better for that. They cost nothing to make. Just use an old pair of shoes.

We got about 40cm in Ottawa, 50 in Montreal. I have a feeling you will be getting more today and tomorrow.

That dog is standing in 40cm of snow

Congrats on the 1500 !

Welcome Neal !!!

We also got snow here but nearly that much.  Pretty icy out though.  Strength training and short run on tap for me.

Stepped on the scale again and lost more weight.  Some of you know I'm on this nutrition thing where they give you new habits every two weeks to lead you to a more healthy way of eating.  Right now it is eat whole foods only.  Nothing processed, or in the case of dairy very minimally processed.  So I haven't had bread or chocolate or any other sweet for a while now and I must say the weight is pouring off me.  I was kind of stalled for a bit but at this rate I'll probably be done with losing weight by the end of this habit.  Although I wouldn't be surprised if it slows down to normal again. This isn't a very sustainable habit but they are using it just to stretch our way of thinking and more awareness of food and what is in it

I rode Mon-Thu this week, even a nice Christmas day ride, thankful I was able to find some people to ride with. I'm over 50% complete on the 500km challenge, should be able to finish it up with a group ride on Saturday & Sunday and then finish up with whatever is left on Monday. Today, I am not going to ride. I'm heading out for a short run then I will try and finish up my year and reach 300,000 yds swimming (think I need to do 3200 yds). I need a break from riding in the cold!

My weight is holding steady, I have eaten pretty well but I have been drinking too much wine!

Ahh the Holidays!!  I have a head cold and I think it is partially due to recovering from my intense workouts with Maker's Mark!!  The holiday parties always get me.

I stopped buying the Yaktrax because they kept breaking, this might be an alternative worth trying.

40cm is a lot!  We got more like 10-15 and we aren't supposed to get any more, we got the edge of the system that nailed you.

Slept in this morning and didn't have time to run before getting ready for work (tri store).  We might be going down to Galveston for a light festival when I get off work so I'm not sure what I am going to work in today.

Tomorrow I am signed up for an LT cycling test at a studio I have never been too kind of excited and scared!

Everyone knows Sufferfest vids are great for intervals, but I've also been finding them great for the longer ones too. Like 20 or 30 min ones. Really hard to find that many motivational songs that go together really well otherwise. But every time the guys are up there it's "Get him!"

Thanks! Educated guess ... low to mid 90's as %FTP. Can't really push myself hard enough yet to do any of the tests, so it's a best estimate from how it feels and where HR is at (when it's working).

they will probably put you on a trainer and make you cycle for 3 or so minutes, pr1ck your finger, take a bit of blood, up the resistance and repeat a few times.

they will take your HR at every measure.

from this they will interpret your LTHR

If they are using a computrainer they will be able to tell you your power at LT. If they are using a mask and measuring oxgen usage they will be able to measure your fats/carbs and VO2max.

If they bring you to exhaustian, it's a tough test. If they stop you right after LTHR it's not so bad.
