Member 11 Coeur d' Alene, and AK | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Hey everyone! I've been absent most of last week, holidays and family etc! It's been hectic getting regularly scheduled swims in. After this week things will be a little more predictable though. I've been managing with the gym bikes and a few running sessions. I was able to do 13.1 mile run last week. My first venture at the 1/2 distance. I really wanted to find a race to enter, but didn't have time and it wasn't going to work with my planned half ironman training. So I just went out and ran it in Juneau last week. 14 or so degrees F, solid ice and a beautiful morning! I was able to hold my target pace too! On a side note, late Christmas present was a Forerunner 910 from my sister! It sounds like everyone one here is doing well. Congrats to Jayne for the big distance, that is truly impressive. To all of us who struggle when so many terribly delicious items are put out, thank goodness the holidays are almost over! This week I'm planning 3 sessions in the pool, hopefully 4 runs and a minimum of 3 hours on a trainer/bike! I get to spend a full 9 days at home after the 4th, so I will have access to my bike ( praying for no snow on the ground) my favorite pool and lots of snow on the ski hill! |

The trip is a day late due to my 7 y/o breaking my 9 y/o's tooth in half. ugh. Starting back on a plan after the new year with a whole new focus. Jayne - That race looks brutally beautiful. Congrats. |

Long run? Long Bike? Weekly? I think that depends upon your goal for the race... do you have a time goal in mind or is it just to finish? I think it also depends on how many years you have been training, your discipline strengths, etc. I always think the best bet is to find a plan that meets your goals (e.g. First HIM?) and stick to it the best you can. I had a running background when I started triathlon so my long runs were far longer than the average Joe while my bike and swim mileage followed more typical guidelines. Also think about intensity. If this is your first HIM, most of your work should be aerobic and you may choose to do very little if any speed work. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed SSMinnow - 2012-12-31 12:51 PM Suzy's point is one of the reason's I like Matt Fitzgerald's Essential Training Plan Book. it has a variety of different plans from Levels 1 - 10 at all distances so you can vary your distances or intensity by moving up or down a level if you are stronger in certain disciplines. I did this for my first HIM. Swimming one session less at level 4, running at level 5 instead of level 4 biking by the plan at Level 4.padarinsmith - 2012-12-31 12:51 PM ashort33 - 2012-12-31 9:49 AM Just looking to finishpadarinsmith - 2012-12-31 11:28 AM What is a good amount of milage to have in prior to a HIM. Elite 4108 Calgary,AB,Canada | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Been away for a few days. Good to see a bunch of new people!! So to prove how anal some of us are.( Well, in this situation me.) I didn't really have any distance goals for myself this year. Doing the 2nd IM was my goal. Part way throught the year, injuring my SI sucked, but I recovered and was able to get through IM again. L ast night I was looking at my mileage for the year . I haven't been logging my bike commuting like last year, so I'm happy with bike. Running- I was going to be 14k short of 1200km for the year. I wasn't planning on running today other than volunteering at my local resolution run tonight. But being completely anal, we got to Michelle's parent this afternoon, and I ran 9 loops on their road to get 10k done. Tonight I'll get at least another 4k. Very happy to have that mileage with not being able to run for almost 2 months. It's not a ton of miles relatively, but was more that last year. This year, I've been running after my IM, where as last year i did ZILCH after the end of August. Be safe tonight everyone. Happy New Year!! |

Long run? Long Bike? Weekly? I think that depends upon your goal for the race... do you have a time goal in mind or is it just to finish? I have trained for a HIM twice, but ended up unable to do either due to injuries. Just to complete, I was working towards the following: Swim - OWS an oly in mass start and then be able to swim a mile and a half in the pool a few times prior to race Bike - Long ride = 70ish miles or about 4 hour ride - two other one hour interval workouts per week. Run - always a challenge for me and where my injuries happened (I over did it on speed work once and ramped up mileage too fast the other time) - my goal was long run of 15-17 miles and 35-40 miles per week at peak a couple a weeks out. |
