Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED jobaxas - 2013-04-06 1:31 PMIt's six thirty our clocks went back so feels like 7.30. Andrew is riding with me at 8. Didn't sleep much I get so nervous! I will go out for a practice before he gets here just the same stopping business. I think we are doing about 30km today. I will let you know. Not encouraged by seeing that two of my friends had crashes this week one has had shoulder surgery she hit a pothole. The other got hit by a car early morning and has a fractured sacrum - she broke her azz! Now that my freak out is done, I do hope you have a good ride with Andrew and that your friends recover soon. |

It sure can be scary out there sometimes and we definitely need to stay alert out with traffic! The more you practice out there the more your confidence will build. We know you can do this. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Muskrat37 - 2013-04-07 4:10 AM My dogs don't get fed dogs food, they get fed an all raw diet. Don't get me started on the pet food industry and the crap that goes into a lot of processed pet foods (even if what I have read is only half right then I still wouldn't feed it to my dogs). We go through a bit over 100lbs a week of food but the combined weight of our dogs is about 1,000lb. It averages to be about 10% of the dogs weight a week. The puppy gets more as she is still growing, but a couple of our veteran dogs get less because they have a tendency to put on weight easily.StaceyK - 2013-04-06 5:17 AM My dogs are the worst when they think they are going to the beach (a weekly occurrence in the summer) but getting around 6 excited mastiffs is not an easy achievement. You have 6 Mastiffs? How many pounds of dog food do you go through a week? Edited by StaceyK 2013-04-06 7:07 PM |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED ukweeble - 2013-04-07 3:23 AM Nah i think it will all be sweet, you got no chance of blisters or anything like that So how did the assessment go Froggy, are your new shoes very different from what you have been wearing? I am planning to get this done in a few weeks time, got to save some $ first cause like bikes shoes are expensive here too. My plan is to find shoes that I like eg are comfortable and look good (might even go bright after being inspired by Tom and Salty) and then buy up online where I can get them at a decent price. This time last year i was about to take part in my first ever race, the Lincoln 10k and i learned a valuable lesson- Nothing new on race day. So, with 19 hours to go to the start line, i decided to get my gait assessed at our 'local' running specialist shop and have come out with a new pair of shoes, socks and elastic laces. Can't imagine anything could possibly go wrong in the morning. Good luck to all our fellow Manatee racers out there over the weekend. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Richardsdrr - 2013-04-07 5:03 AMI've had a week of training PBs, which is nice. Started off the week by breaking both my 10 km and my HM Bests whilst on a long run, sweet, then, this mornings run gave me a new 5 km pb and have knocked off another 1 min 7 secs to bring me under 25 min barrier on ,y way to my sub 20 target . I am reading the JD book u recommended Salty, and so far, I'm liking it. I am already going to apply one of the teachings from it. That is, I'm gonna train at the current stress level for the next 6 weeks rather than raising the bar each time I pb. Hopefully reduce the risk of injury/burn out. Good luck to all the racing manatees out there this weekend, not that you'll need it. You've done the training, now reap the rewards. Wayto go with the PRs Darren. What is the book that you are reading. |

Regular 980 Caerphilly, Wales, uk. | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED StaceyK - 2013-04-07 12:09 AM Thanks. The books Jack Daniels Running Formula, as recommended by Salty. I'm looking at getting a gait analysis done this month also. My daps have about 350 miles on em now and I'm getting a sore big toe whilst running. However, reading on some other forums, particularly ultra runners, some people say the 400 mile per trainer set is a myth and many of them are running on theirs after several thousand miles. They do change the insoles regularly though, and I noticed that the sport shop that I was going to get my gait analysed at also do customised insoles. So, perhaps that may be a more suitable/affordable option, as I don't fancy buying new treads every 2-3 months.Richardsdrr - 2013-04-07 5:03 AMI've had a week of training PBs, which is nice. Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED I survived another "day" of higher learning commission meetings. By 3 I was running the lake front trail on the shore of lake Michigan. There were more people out there running than in most of the races I've done. Kind of fun. 9 miles total. And can I just say "bollocks"? I really want WSU to beat Louisville. Meetings tomorrow from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. I may have to hit the treadmill again tomorrow. |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Update for the manatee peeps. 30km road ride. Yes me. It was nice, we chatted the whole time - have I mentioned he's hawt? Anyway it was lovely, we certainly weren't pushing it but 30km on the Trek is a first! It's a beautiful sunny autumn day, came back into a headwind so we had to work harder, we passed a few though and that felt good! He makes me feel safe, he takes care of the drivers that shout at us - I feel very much a girl and let him do his manly stuff! Shame on me! I am having a hair cut this afternoon, there is a salon open on aSunday - awesome. Cannot wait it has been months, about 7. |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED I took Silver out for a ride today...clipped in and everything! 16 miles in a little under an hour and NO MAJOR SCARINESS I practiced shifting a lot and not losing speed around corners. Of course, unclipping before stops. Getting started at lights was a pain at first because I forgot to shift down before stopping...DUH!!! Heart rate shot through the roof a few times, until I stopped worrying about getting my foot out "in time". My last stop I had a little trouble because I got too cocky. I shifted twice before stopping but didn't pedal through...oooops! Left foot shot out of clip when I only got grinding chain upon take off. I'm sure it was a good show for the cars around the major intersection where I was flailing away. Overall a great confidence-boosting first ride. Yes! |
