Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! MuscleMomma - 2007-08-17 7:40 PM Hi all, Could someone please take me off the chart. I know it's all in fun, but this is a challenge and I am backing out and don't want it to affect my girls! I am past the pep talk stage. Please skip if you don't want to listen to self pity... I need to take a break from training. I'm not getting faster, I'm still fat (probably explains the not faster part). I'm home with kids, can't find a job blah, blah, blah. I'm sure I'll be back, but for now I don't want to count against the women. Thanks, MM Obv. I'm not a challenge organizer or team leader, but looks like we have three options here: 1. understand that trouble and fortune are part of any game, and hope one of the boys drops out too; 2. drop MM from the challenge and subtract her pledges as requested; or 3. have the girls pick up the slack from her lost distance. My totals and random stats:
Lest anyone accuse me of sandbagging (AHEM!), 1. I'm leaving next week to Indonesia for 2-3 weeks, and 2. My coach has told me that if I do anything more strenuous than light surfing and lifting a fork to my mouth while I'm there, she will beat me senseless with a wet pool noodle upon my return. GO LADIES GO!!! |

Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! I think it's entirely up to the organizer of this challenge to rule on MMs request. (I'm sorry to hear that you are in a tough space, Mitzi.) I don't want to be unfair to anyone. It's either A) Life happens. Let her drop out if she wants to, or B) Once you sign up, you're in no matter what. I don't care which. It just has to apply to everyone. We're going to beat the guys no matter what! |

It appears that I was sandbagging even though I have NEVER done this much before (check my logs) so I will get with my captain about updating my goal. I apologize if it looks bad, but I would never imagined I would be doing this much. |

As of today, I'm 21.7/35 on the run (62% - just shy of where I wanted to be (65%)) and 5419/13000 on the swim (42% - way shy of where I want to be), but I'm hoping for another 1000-1500 swim today if the weather cooperates. Extreme Veteran 832 Podunk County, MN | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Totals as of yesterday: 12940.57/180000 Swim yards = 72% done 25.53/38 Run Miles = 67% done. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves, cuz I'm right on track. As far as MM is concerned, I leave that to the discretion of the challenge setter-uppers. I do realize that according to a reading of the rules as described up front, once you get past... was it halfway? in the challenge, there's no backing out. So MM, anything you can do is a help - both to you in your struggles and to us. But don't worry about "letting us down" - we're big girls and we know that sometimes, life happens. Hope you find some improvements in your circumstances soon. |

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! My numbers to date:
Running is a little slack as my bricks are taking there toll and I've been cutting back (or completely eliminating) the next day's run. But I built a little fudge factor into the run goal since I knew this would probably be happening. Swimming is definitely on pace and I'll still be able to hit the running goal. So ladies ... make sure you got the good tan lines working!! |

So that's about 62% of my run and 61% of my swim. Looks like I'm pretty close to on track. Got a long run (6 miles) planned for this evening, so that should help. I'm not worried about finishing my swim....my run may be a bit tricky. I'll just have to be diligent and maybe get an extra run or two in next week when the kiddos get back to school! |

Expert 935 South eastern Ohio | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Here are my Totals for the month so far: Swim: 16,700 yds/ 29,700 yds Run: 64.35 miles/ 77 miles I will get it all done, even with the pool closed I have some long OWS swim coming up. All the rest of my swims will be OWS as my pool is closed for maintaince. And it is the only pool in the area besides the college and I can't find any way to swim there. So it is the lake for me but I have a GPS measured distance that I swim out there. The run should also be no prob. Everyone have a good week. Go Women!!! |

Regular 97 Grosse Pointe, Michigan | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Here are my cumulative stats for August so far... Run: 4h 30m 32s - 23.99 Mi Swim: 3h 15m - 8475 Yd I'll have no problem hitting my run goal, though my swimming is in trouble, basically due to unexpected scheduling and my husband's job taking him out of town. There's not much I can do about that. (Maybe I can convert my extra miles into yards toward my swim goal??? haha...no, I'm not serious, so don't start.) I am making an effort tonight and bringing my little ones to swim practice in hopes they'll sit still for a half hour or so. (At least I can get in part of my full practice.) Fortunately, our TNT swim coach volunteered to keep an eye on them while I swim a few laps in the water. As far as how long a 3 and 5 year old will last, who's to say, but I'm crossing my fingers and bringing a LOT of crayons and munchies for them! |

I have always had a hard time trying to swim laps while the little ones were around the pool. I just could not get my head into swimming. Kudos for the effort.

I managed to squeeze out a 2.2 mile run on Saturday to bring my run up to 9.2 mi. I couldn't bring myself to dive into the surf up in Arcata (CA) this weekend, though! Even the sea lions were spending more time sunning on the rocks! Go girls! Trish |

Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! I'm screwed! Three straight days of rain (outdoor pool up the street closed) and last night as I bounced in to the Y, I was told that pool is closed until Sept 4. I will be frantically calling around today to find another pool that's open. I need to be in work at 7am all this week, so no morning workouts. Ugh! This is frustrating. (Welcome back, RICH!) |
