I knew I should have stayed away from any race with "hills" in the name, but I thought hey, 10 laps of 1.5 mi with only one real hill on it, how bad could it be.  Hill wasn't that steep but steep enough and the pace was super high.

I was doing ok but starting to hurt a bit.  Thought I heard someone say 2 laps to go so I thought to myself, I can hang on for 2 more laps I'll be fine.  Got to the start finish saw 4 more laps on the board and my mind had a quick conversation with the legs and before I knew it they agreed to shut it down, slowly sifted to the back and out of the pack.

Didn't get lapped, had 1 guy in the top 5 and 2 guys on the team in the top 10 (no thanks to anything I did but seems good to mention).

I need to figure out how to ride harder without HR spiking so much.  I look at all of my rides and I seem to spend more time in Z5 than anything else, followed very closely by Z4, very little Z3-Z1, even on long rides.  At the top of the first hill I was already hitting my max HR and there is only so much time you can sit at that level without blowing up.

Pushed your limits and probably learned something.  Sounds like a beneficial ride.  I blow up REALLY fast in z5 on the bike but can hold it much longer on the run.  Know your limits then push them a little further right?

13 Weeks to CdA... holy crap.

Yeah that's the problem in bike racing, you have to go the pace of the pack or you're off the back working even harder.  It's been a learning experience so far for sure.

Thanks for everybody's encouragement about the treadmill.  Turns out the weather folks were wrong and we ended up with a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Hmmm, wonder if it is a seat height issue? a cleat issue?  Smart to have it checked out.

If it were me, I would try the brick, but sometimes I'm stupid.  If there is any knee pain, abort.

I kind of think it might be the actual saddle.  (I bought a different one this weekend, but am going to ask his advice before switching it.)  The fitter suggested the cleat angle.  Regardless, I'm hoping to get it worked out.  This guy has an excellent reputation, so I'm confident that he knows what he's doing.

I did the brick.  I figured it was on the trainer, so easy to pull the plug if things started to hurt.  Besides, it wasn't that long anyways (75 minute bike, 20 min run).  It felt alright.  A bit of a niggle, but didn't become pain.

I've been feeling stressed with all the biking I've already missed, so I figured I was better off at least seeing how my knee took it then missing another one.

Glad the weather was nice for you!  Yes, it is quite possible to do long runs on the treadmill, but certainly not preferable.

Bought new tires, pedals and shoes this weekend.  Put the pedals on the bike and went out for a ride this afternoon.  It was my first time riding clipped in and I didn't fall.  But other than getting on and off, they didn't seem to make a lot of difference to me.  Not sure what, if anything, that says about my pedaling.

It says nothing about your pedaling. Don't listen to the bullsh+t. Just go ride. Congrats on the purchase.

Hey folks. Had a really cool experience today. I went to help out at the Woman's only triathlon (Girls on the Run) in my neighborhood. Started out directing women from T2 to the runcourse. Then I was asked to do the finishing announcing! I was a mini - Mike Riley! It was a blast. I got the idea to announce their name and then say "Brenda Smith, You are a Girl on the Run!" It was truly cool. One finisher was greeted by her son, daughter-in-law and newborn grandbaby. The son hugged his mom so long it was obvious this race had special meaning. He gave her a dozen roses. I got the feeling that she was fighting or had fought some illness. Very moving moment.

Loved it. Now after doing family things and working on my arcade machine, I have to get a work out in.

Night.

Long live the MG.

Ran a 5k on Sunday.  More painful than I had anticipated it as being.  But my brother was running it as well, and I had to make sure I beat him.  I knew he was running, but we were not able to meet up before the start so I had no idea of his pacing.  Ran a fast race, and was happy to beat him (by more than 6 minutes, but who is counting).  Still sore sitting here at my desk, but happy.

Oh man my legs are sore today. And I didn't even run a race. I volunteered. I spent Saturday at the Antelope Island Buffalo Run Race. It had a 100 mile, 50 mile, 50 K and 25 k races. Antelope Island is in the middle of The Great Salt Lake in Utah.  The cell phone coverage is not good so Ham radio guys were doing commucations for the race. Amatuer Radio is one of my hobbies and for this race I was assigned to assist the assistant RD/volunteer cordinator. Armed with a hand held radio and an ear piece. I pretty much stuck with her the whole day relaying messages about runners, aid stations that needed supplies ect. We did alot of walking, alot of loading supplies, alot of removing trash removal, alot of helping runners. And She walked fast everywhere I sure got a workout and I had a blast. It's crazy how much goes on to support a race. It was a trail race so even some of the aid stations were hard to get to.  I have increased respect for Ultra and trail runners.  All in all a good  day.

Tiana

Great swim Doug! It takes a lot of mental toughness to do the long swims, I was doing some 3000m swims a while back and I really enjoyed them but found they take me a long time! I treated myself to a coffee and freshly baked muffin with natural yoghurt at the pool-side cafe straight after, the thought of that got me through!

My legs are stiff today in all the places I got cramp on the weekend, I think I need a good massage.

I just saw my tri photos, I'm pleased with these one's because they really seem to show that my running gait is improving with much more forefoot striking and bringing my heel up higher. This was my first race in the Kinvara's - HOT RED!

I forget how old your kids are...so I've got no concrete advice other than make sure you take pictures!!  You will laugh at this someday.  Make take decades, but you will!!!   If they are old enough to get the consequences idea, charge them for repainting.  Doesn't need to be cash- could be pulling a fun event (even a trip to icec cream!) because now you need that money/time etc. to pay for the repainting.  If they're older.....hit their savings account for painful (to them) token.

Then put them to bed, and pour the wine!
