trying1 - 2009-06-17 2:50 PM Hey guys thanks for the suggestions on the hydration systems.  I didn't realize they could be that expensive!  I debating between the one Steve suggested and the one Trevor suggested.  Both are insulated, one holds almost twice as much but the other one has a cool bracket for your bike computer.  Oh and the one Trevor suggested is $50 usd cheaper ($100 vs $50).  Off to read the rest of our posts..

Stan, for some reason I recall the Profile Design Aerodrink bottle and Bracket came to only $28- $30 dollars.  But I got the smaller one (I think it's 24 oz or so)...I don't think it's insulated, and I like it just fine.  Finding a way to mount the Garmin is a challenge.  I might just wear the darn thing on my wrist and not fuss with it in T2 like I always do.  Also, the less I look at the mileage/speed, the better.  Miles seem to go by faster that way.

good point.  I usually don't like to look at speed or milage when I run for the same reason you mention.

I am still considering racing this weekend.  I've had a few second thoughts though.

1.  Waking up a 4 am for a 2 hour drive for packet pick up before 6:30.
2.  Most importantly - Temp Sat. 102.

It is only a sprint so it might not be that bad, but 102?  That's crazy!!

Agreed Kim...Mine was only $25..Profile Design Aquadrink i think its called. NO insulation.I was able to pop mine in last night, and push the garmin to the top of my aerobars just before the grips...We'll see how it works out this weekend.

YEAH, what he said ^^^^^^!  I'm up at 4am Tuesday and Thursday this week to go PRACTICE OWS.  Steve and Roni are out riding in a hurricane for 56m.  Make the SWBKRUN team proud and just do it!

One thing I have learned being part of this group is we hold each other accountable.  I would never have signed up for the HIM so early if Steve haven't shamed me into it!  Isn't he a great guy?

I had my best swim ever this AM. I swam a 400 in 6:53. and 2000 in 39:19. I wore a wetsuit which probably explains the speed. I am just happy to be seeing progress as I have been trying to get 6000 yds/week. My swimming still has a LLLOOOOOONNNNGGGG way to go.

Thanks for the kick Suzy. Even if it was directed at someone else it landed on me too.

ugh, forecast for next 10 days, rain and thunderstorms...

Was going to get up at 0600 this morning to do my tempo run but the lightning outside kept me from doing it.  Don't mind the rain but lightning tends to make me stay in bed.

Also was reading up more on that Marathon Challenge from runnersworld.  Did you see their 16 week plan?  First 6 weeks no speedwork the speedwork days were switched to hills, 5-7 miles of hills.

Interesting reading up on it.  Basically he said the hills get you more bang for the buck vs a LSD run.  I do try to run hills but might try to really add it to my marathon program.

Oh and I think we are pretty much set on Lonestar, we like the bike profile _____________________

Not doing much of anything last few days, getting ready for Saturday(getting nervous for the distance).
But I am signing today for a sprint with my wife. It's a small town charity sprint on July 4th. I'm swim-bike , she's running....See how hard i can go on the bike knowing that I don't have to run!

I know all about worrying about races, it makes me feel better if I worry I think.

That being said, worry if it makes you feel better but you really don't need to, you have put in the time, maybe for your first you don't go as fast as you would like but finishing it won't be a problem at all.

Andy--Gosh, I meant to be inspiriational, not the commandent!  I'll find my team building book and look for a better approach.

Doug--great job on the swim.  While the wetsuit may have helped the speed a little, you did the distance.

Tony--I tend to agree with you on the lightening.  I did the Nashville half in a lightening storm a few years ago and was   scared to death.  Every one kept telling me i was the safest because i was the shortest, but that is not necessarily true.  Lightening travels through the ground.

Trevor--l have learned not to be too nervous and I am so much less prepared for the swim than all the people in our group.  You know you can do the distance, so I bet you are putting time pressure on yourself. Let it go--do your best and have fun!!

Did my last OWS on the Oly course this morning, did my short brick run and then decided to drive the bike course.  Hmmm, it didn't look at all like Tony's course------------------------------, it looked more like a giant roller coaster in an amusement park!   ShockedShould make for an interesting Sunday.

Suzy

Steve, freaking unbelievable!!!!!

So if we're girling up this weekend I guess I have to do the whole 75mile bike ride 2 mile run with my group and can't bail off around the 50 mile mark.  Peer pressure is a horrible wonderful thing.

So far the extended family at my house is still recovering from jet lag but doing okay.  They've bought a car, auto insurance , set up a bank account and are out scouting the area today for apartments and schools.  That's a good sign right?  To be honest I am taking advantage of the free babysitters and doing this 75 mile ride this weekend with the hubby.   I can't let Steve and Andy be the only ones having all the fun on a bike!   Speaking of which Andy, isn't this the 3rd 100k bike ride for you in a row?   What a machine.

Oh and Suzy, I agree with you on blaming Steve.  It is his fault I am doing the Ironman relay and then another marathon 7 weeks later.  Who said this was fun????  Kiss

YES! If they don't do these things they will never leave. If that is what they do with Jet Lag there is a good chance they will be out of your hosue soon! Maybe you should enter them in a sprint, they certainly seem focused. Good on ya for the baby sitting.

I think Dale Carnegie wrote a book about it...

Truth be told, this is all about accountability (and the challenge forums).  That is what is so great about SWBKRUN MG!  Sometimes I worry more about letting the group down than myself  - is that messed up or what?
