Back from Ragnar! Severely sleep-deprived!! Crippled quads!! But I had THE MOST FUN TIME EVER!!! Best running race I've ever done, bar none. Details later. Our team did awesome, averaging 8:50 over 200 hilly miles, and finishing in the top 30%. The winning team averaged 5:47's -- crazy!!! I know Chet did this earlier this year, so he can attest to how incredible the experience is. If you ever get asked to do this or have ever considered putting together a team, DO IT!!!!

RR later!!

I think RP, Steve, and I have all but decided to bag our Olympic triathlon tomorrow. RP sees no point. Steve is very drunk. We are all hurtin' and exhausted. But we are all happy and have the COOLEST new bottle opener ever, so life is fabulous!!!

Way to run Ragnar Kyla, Ryan and Steve!!

X2, you guys ROCK!!! Enjoy the spoils.
X3! I'm not running at the moment, my ITB flared up at the end of the marathon so I'm very jealous, Ragnar looks FUN!
x4!!! Congrats on what sounds like an awesome race!! Cant wait for the RR! (besides, I need something to read at this conference)

After taking forever to write up my Portland RR, I truly realized how much better RRs are if you do them right away. So I did mine right away. Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage report is up and ready to read!

What an arse. Who throws water bottles to their team? Bad toss! I have to say that this was an awesome awesome experience. Ragnar was a lot harder that I thought. The way I looked at it was that would be running three different times (almost like three different days). 11 miles one day, 9 miles the next and a nice easy 4.9 the following. Nothing like that at all. Sleepless, stuffed in a van for 20+ hours, eating on the fly, etc... I would not change a thing! A great experience.

Congrats to Kyla, Steve, and RP on running Ragnar!

I also ran a relay race this weekend, though we were only crammed in the sweat-soaked van together for 13 hours. I met up with my team in Bloomington, fresh off the plane from Istanbul via London and Toronto. In other words, I was already delirious from sleep deprivation when I got there. The race was 104 miles, split into 21 legs run by a 7-runner team. We started at 6 pm and ran through the night to finish just before 7 am. It was hilly, it was dark, it was awesome! Tons of fun.

Hi gang - looks like everyone had tons of fun this weekend.  Loved keeping up w/ the Ragnar folks on FB.  Comments and pics were great.  Julia - I have no idea how you did yuor race.  I do not function well w/o sleep.

I'd love to try a Ragnor race sometime.  The moms that I run with at times do them fairly frequently.  I imagine the running is the easy part.  I would be a mess by the 3rd leg and possibly a tad bit b*tchy from lack of sleep but I'd still love to give it a try.

Didn't get to answer the questions from last week but the clif note version is all desserts that's why I need to workout, no meal after racing - takes me hours to eat and not sure on the book but I liked Dino's answer.

Hope everyone has a good week.  I have a very simple goal - make another peachy week on the old workout calendar.   I'm going for 2 weeks in a row!!!!!!!

John, I found you don't break stuff on your bike when it's hanging on the wall.  Glad you stayed upright when the seat broke.  It is better to get this all out of the way before Florida.  How was swimming with a broken rib?

Yes with two conditions 1) I don't have to drive or 2) read a map! Have shoes, will travel.

Somehow I managed not to do either of those... It can happen. I did, however, write directions for my legs on my arms. The organizers kept emphasizing how you are responsible for knowing your course. Yes, it is marked, but we saw a few lost souls early on (stopped to help two of 'em), and one girl on our team got lost (and ran an extra mile back-tracking) -- signs blow over, $#!t happens, etc. One of my van-mates and I used a Sharpie to write out our turns, just in case. There is no guarantee there will be people ahead of you to follow (and/or if there are, that they will go the correct way, ha!).

Jealous, Chet, that you have done this 4 times!! I know I will do it again. There was a lot of talk of Hood to Coast, but it also sounds like that is super crowded and as a result, maybe not quite as much fun as Ragnar. A girlfriend in Oregon is doing a Hell's Canyon relay in September -- the course maps look downright daunting (4 miles up, starting at 3K feet, for example). She told me I'm a backup runner if someone flakes, ha!

Not limping as badly today and able to go downstairs without granny rails, but not without a grunt each time I step down. Maybe tomorrow I can head downstairs noise-free...

I'd like to do a Ragnar. I don't feel like I'm a good enough runner yet. I'll drive and I'm pretty good at reading a map.

i heard back from cobb and they are sending me a new saddle.  they've always had great customer service so i wasn't surprised by this even though its out of warranty.

however... this is the part i'm not really understanding.  ginger, john's wife wrote

"We have found that this saddle “problem” happens on the Cervelo aero seat post—the clamping angle is different from other frames."

if its a known issue why would i put the same saddle back on.  and not to be a jerk, but why would they even resend the same saddle.

the number of hours i had on the current saddle when it failed on my cervelo is close to the number of hours i'll spend for the rest of this round of IM training.  meaning, race day will be in the red zone of when the failure is expected.

anyone have any thoughts?

I feel like I am a real Lacrosse player now, got hit between the glove and elbow pad last night with a stick.  Forearm is nice and swollen.

I'm having a blast branching out a bit and doing some other sports along with riding.  Good cross training.  Though it's funny how a few sprints down the field trying to defend a fast break and I'm heading to the bench wishing we had oxygen.

That is pretty interesting, I'd respond with what you just posted about that doesn't leave you feeling comfortable about putting the same saddle with a known issue back on the same bike and ask what your options might be.

Edited to add that given how much time you have on that saddle vs. time left, I would personally look at picking up anothe r brand ASAP if they don't respond back immediately with a good answer.
