It has been crazy around here for quite awhile. Crazy in a good sense though. Hope you are doing well and are well into your training for this year. We've been having some freaky weather up here if no one else mentioned it. Last Thursday it was 30C (86F) and today we were having some snow about (26F). Its kind of hard to keep away from colds etc with those kinds of changes. I do have a question to put out to the group. I am coaching a guy in town who wants to do 12 super sprints this year. That's basically one every weekend. Any ideas on training and nutrition for this kind of action. Oh he does want to be on the podium too. I"m trying to figure out how to get him through the season without doing a burn and crash part way through. What is that maybe 1:1X:XX? Think of it as one super speedwork session every week. I've raced longer than that for a month at a time with no ill effects. I would encourage him to pick a few A races (no you can't podium every weekend!) and use the others to hone a particiular skill. As far as nutrition, assuming he eats well already, not a lot of changes. If it were me, I would have a post race ritual-recovery drink as soon as stomach will handle it, an ice bath with 5lbs of ice! and a solid meal an hour later with a good balance of CHOs and protein. I would also encourage him to not skimp on sleep and keep up on his stretching/body work (Massage if he can afford it). PS. One last thing. I would also tell him you're going to monitor each week. If there is a looming injury, bag it. |

Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING Good luck racers! Have fun out there...then hurry back and tell us all about it. Sam, have fun this weekend @ OM. Later this morning we are heading out to our State OM competition. Hoping our OM kids do well tomorrow, but not well enough to qualify for worlds. Get this, this year the World competition is in Iowa. Not saying about bad about Iowa, I just think it would seem a little more exciting someplace else. Have a great weekend mg! |

No racing for me, Saturday filled with thrilling OM competition and Sunday doing a nice 80 miler out the the country, should be fun. Good luck everyone racing this weekend!

Hope it is a fast weekend. Thanks to all the Ironmen (do you prefer "Ironwomen"?) for the advice. As I get closer to those training days I will make the decision wether it would be worth it. I felt 18 was enough last time. I agree on the totally different animal than the stand alone marathon. Doug - Damn, kind of narrows the options. Good luck. NO! I'm with Suzy. I'm an Ironman - Mike Reilly said so. three times. Love it. |

Regular 459 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING No racing for me this weekend. Good luck to all the racers! I'm still having fit issues on my bike. The adjustment earlier this week actually made things worse. I had to stop bike class half an hour in because it felt so wrong. Going to see him again on Monday. It's frustrating, but hopefully we get it worked out this time. |

Extreme Veteran 668 NW Georgia | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING Been taking it really easy this week. I was hoping to race this weekend so I could label my slacking as "tapering" but I couldn't make it work logistically. Trying to get my motivation up to get out the door this afternoon for a run. The dark clouds rolling in are not helping.Good luck to Suzy and the Fatman this weekend!!! |

If there is a looming injury, bag it. Thanks Suzy. I think sometimes we get too close to a situation and need an outside perspective. His nutrition at this time is very good so I don't see too much change there. Just to make sure he follows up the races and renutritionizes (new word?) after each race. Races will only last about 45 minutes. |

Champion 6973 marietta | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING nice job little one! decent race here. good swim, 1:41 / 100 with time to T1 so i'm thinking somewhere around 1:35 -1:36 / 100. i didn't have to go all out, in fact i never did redline because i had a great draft almost the whole way. t1 was 32 seconds, 6th o/a. thats good. i think the bike was a little short of 20k and the run was long. but thats cool. had fun. bike was a little sketchy, hilly and raining. one 15% grade for ~75 yards. and then one climb not quite as steep but ~ 3/4 of a mile that really hurt. run was hilly too with to m'fer hills back to back. hope everyone is having an AWESOME weekend. we closed on our new home yesterday. its on a little lake so i can ows from my back yard. its also has a media room tucked away downstairs that i'm taking over for IM training. we negotiated the 56 inch tv into the deal.. ha! oh, and its got a bar!! |

Woo-Hoo! Jealous of your swim and love the thought of all those hills! So when is the official MG gathering in the new digs? The bar doesn't interest me, but the 56 incher sure does. HA! |

Expert 847 Brevard, North Carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING I had a good run. My goal was 2:20 and I knew I might run a 2:15 if the running planets were in alignment, so I'm very pleased. A 2:16 for my first half marathon. The hills added up to 1922 ft. of ascent. Wowza!! And there was a double at mile 9 that was steep and long and TOUGH. I walked for about 30 seconds up the last hill at mile 12.? Other than that one, I kicked a$$. Oh, the free beer in my finisher's pint glass was excellent. Time to rest! Way to go Suzy and John (congrats on the new house too). |

I like beer but for some reason it's always hard for me to stomach it right after a race. After a shower and change though I am usually ready for one. |
