Everyone was like me and tried to get their INFINIT order in all afternoon with no luck.  I just got mine to go through finally, only ended up getting the 50% off to apply to 3 big custom mixes, that ought to get me started at least.  I was quite impressed when I first tried it.

I am very tired today for some reason, hopefully the swim wakes me up for my bike, and luckily the bike main set is only two 20 minute sets at 80-85 percent tonight.  Tomorrow will be my true test, I want to try and get up and do my hour and half run before work, could be an interesting day.

gdctex - 2010-01-27 8:26 AM Training question/advice needed. This morning, I did a 45 minute ride on the spinning bike at the gym (following the plan I am on, details in my log) then did a set of core work. Today was also weight training so by the time I started weights, it was an hour into the workout. I struggled mightily through the first few machines and decided to stop and go back this evening and finish the rest of the machines I had planned. It seems that I was just out of energy. My wife says I should take a gu or something like that after 45 minutes to help with the energy. She is probably right. Any thoughts/advice? Also, the last week or so, I have started to get exertion headaches when doing some of the weights. It usually does not happen to later in the sets, maybe in the second set or so. It goes away, but kinda lingers and I feel it will come on again if I do what I believe I should be doing with weights. I think I am staying hydrated as I keep a water bottle with me at all times and refill at least once or twice during the hour to hour and half that I am working out. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Glen- for any workout longer than one hour, I need some sort of nutrition.  If, for instance, I swim first, then do a run at the gym, I'll eat a banana after swimming.  Last week, I forgot my gu/banana/etc, and started to get really tired on the treadmill.  Not so good for Z4 intervals.  Your wife's advice is really good, a gu or energy drink if you prefer will give you a little needed energy boost.

Got one mix each for Sam and I.

I am on the computer all day obviously so it wasn't such a big deal, I just waited until I saw people on ST getting through so I went and ordered mine no problem.

Training is the perfect time to try out any race nutrition you might be thinking about using.  I am pretty lucky and everything has seemed to sit well with me, but have heard horror stories from others.

So buy a few kinds see if any bother you or which ones you like and try them in training.

Just an FYI for the Augusta racers.   The Marriott if FULL.   I just got off the phone with them and the entire hotel is booked.  I'll be staying 5 miles up the road at the Courtyard if anyone wants to say hi.

That filled up fast.  There is a great little place to stay called Westbank Inn that I normally stay in when I have business in Augusta.  It is on the cheap, but it is clean...for anyone just wanting a place to crash for the night.  It is usually less than 50 dollars, and is right on the main drag.  Probably where I will stay fri night.

Uh, I did a 30 minute run TT this morning...to update/make sure run zones/LT are current.  It hurt like he$$.  I still feel nauseous even as I am sitting here eating lunch.  I tried my best to come up with reasons why I couldn't do it today, but I guess I HTFU'ed and did it anyway.   It sure is hard to run max effort for 30 minutes without being in the middle of a race!  I mean, how many times can you picture the finish line of a race before your brain catches on and says "yeah right"

Do you guys have that same problem?

I have had those exact thoughts! It is like fool me once ok, 2nd time no way. Also the imaging only seems to help for 1 a minute at best, then it is like: What still 22 minutes to go! I know I will have to do another one in a few weeks but I do not look forward to it.

Great for you!! Even though it's all out, you do have to pace a 30-minute effort. So I spend the earlier parts of those types of things (I've done 3 of 'em in my life, so not speaking from much experience here!) pushing where I know I'm pushing but can still hang on. Then I just try to get faster, which often just means hanging on. I blast up the music to my mostest favoritest and motivating-est music and just push push push. Even if the speed ends up slowing down a wee bit (for me it doesn't, usually), if the effort is there that's what counts. I glance at the HR and try not to let it dip.It is a huge mental effort for that long, with your body giving you every reason to let up and you knowing you have to push on. I find it even harder on the bike. The best part is stopping. And then having new HR data to work with. Yay!!! Great job today!!

I don't work, but I'm an Art student so all I do is projects projects and more projects. Right now I'm working on a Superbowl Commercial and we need to get a specific number of views...when my group is ready to upload the video, I will send the link to you guys and you HAVE to see it! Beano+Gas= FUNNY.

Today, I'm just in a very blah and low energy mood today. I checked in at the Red Roof Inn for a couple days  *winks*. I hate it because my energy is at all time low during those days. However, I'm glad to get today off anyways. It's pouring outside=floods (Vegas do not really have a great drainage system, so my street is flooded, and I can bet your bottom dollar that the park trails will be flooded so no Run). Combined with my low energy, I just don't feel like HTFU'ing  today. :-)   It's a nice way just to slow down a bit, and catch up on other things - such as life and a bill (I'm probably one of the very few people in the world that only has one credit card bill...LOL!).

Maybe I can practice my breathing in the bathtub? Does that count? Tongue out

jvanis - 2010-01-27 6:08 AM Gotta vent as my day has not started the greatest!

I set my alarm clock last night to get me up at the normal time.  Wake up this morning 15 minutes late because my wife will turn the radio on, and up, when she gets ready in the morning, but then turned it down too far so there was no sound when it "went off" this morning.  UGHH!

LOL - I use my Bed Buzzer. It's a vibrating alarm clock because I can't hear the radio. I hate it because it's so jolting! 80 to 90% of the time, I get up within 5 minutes before it's supposed to go off, then I immediately turn it off.

On the days it does go off and I push the snooze, it goes off every 4 minutes. So yeah...who wants to feel vibrations on their head every 4 minutes to get up!? Certainly not me.

One of the guys on the Augusta thread said to use the code:

Use the code imaimao for rooms at the Augusta Marriott

maybe there are some rooms avail online if you use the code......try it.

Stan-I do not use the bars for spinscan.  Instead I focus on the second screen.  My coach told me that the circle should be as large as possible AND a circle, not shaped like a peanut or very small.  In general I shoot for >70 on the spinscan numbers, ATA between 90-95 and equal disttribution between the left and right leg.  My right leg is signifcantly more efficient (usually 78-85), but carries only about 42% of the load.   I like spinscan, but I think it can start to drive you nuts at times.  In general I use it on technique day and about 1-2 minutes every 10 minutes on long rides.

We are heading home tomorrow and I am ready.  While I loved my time here especially because I like the people, sitting on a beach chair at the pool for multiple days is tough for me.  Of course, I know it is -1F in Madison so perhaps I should learn to like the sendentary life a little more!

RACE SCHEDULE CHANGE!

Today my race schedule for this year changed dramatically.  My wonderful wife saw a deal for 3 races for $199 and encouraged me to change my schedule for the cost savings.  I said YES!

New schedule still has a sprint in May, and my Knoxville Olympic in June.  However, my Chattanooga Olympic in July is replaced with an Olympic in August.  The icing on the cake...I now have my first HIM scheduled for September 5th.  The Atomic Man, located in Lenoir City, TN.

I need to adjust my training schedule to accomodate the longer race and longer season, any suggestions on what types of adjustments you would make between Oly training and HIM training are greatly appreciated.

crappy ride home tonight. The train was filled to capacity and then some. I think someone in my section had gas. Kept getting a whiff of something not nice. (I'm sure it wasn't me even though I did have chili for lunch). When I got to the parking lot for stage two of my ride home I had a flat tire. It's not a lot of fun to change a tire at any time but in the dark and cold itys even less so. I did manage a PB changing the flat though.   Finished in about 10 minutes flat.  pun intended

Nice, Lisa!  Hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy a little AZ warmth while you are there!

My first race is next weekend, too, on Feb 7th...half mary.

First tri is March 27th, CA70.3...boy i wish I had a sprint or smaller race to warm up with first, but I should have thought about that back in September when I signed up all gung ho!

Thanks for the advice, Kyla, it's really hard to know how much longer you can hold on sometimes, that's for sure!  I'm pretty sure I was slowing down at the end, but HR stayed up there...you are right though, the best part is when you get to stop.

Plainsman AU - 2010-01-26 5:16 PM Masters or no masters?

I am contemplating joining the masters again this semester.  I do feel like I get a great workout in and it is motivational.  Hate all the kicking and Medley drills, but I skip alot of that crap anyway.  I can always just swim laps, but wondering how much the INTENSITY of the group really helps.  Time to start swimming...one way or the other.

I think if you have motivation issues than Masters is great.  Plus if there is a real coach you will get little tips and the drills/intervals are great for getting faster.  Plus in a lane assignment you can be pushed by other swimmers when other times you might slack off.

Yep, I went ahead and bit the bullet and joined.  I thought about saving the money this time and just doing some lap swim, but I really don't think I would push myself nearly as hard swimming laps.  I do modify alot of the kicking drills and medley crap to fit triathlon training.  But, I have to give FULL credit to the masters last year for teaching me to swim...I felt like I gained alot in a year with those guys.

Good choice Barry. And you are totally correct. I am that way as well. I go to a bike class on Tuesday nights. I work way harder than I would if I was doing that workout as home. We have these individually programmed HRM the we use. Last night showed I burned 1297 calories!! I was sweating like a pig!! There's your visual.
I'm off for a swim.

Um, technically pigs don't sweat...  they don't have sweat glands....

Ouch.... Ummm...Thats what she said?
