Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Cool Dave! Something good to read over lunch! Hey Peter - I read your note about the Expo. I did get a chance to browse the expo on the Saturday but wanted to finish before buying anything. I knew I would finish but felt odd buying something before I did. Honestly I didn't see much though. As someone else mentioned - I had planned to spend quite a bit on overpriced merchandise but was challenged to find anything I wanted to buy. PowerBar had this deal where if you bought so much of their product you got a nice fleece zip up in black with grey sleeves and a little Muskoka 70.3 across the breast. I had my mind on THAT as I "raced" towards the finish. I didn't learn about this until just before race start. So ya... was disappointed by that. I actually emailed the ironman store contact to see if they had any Muskoka branded stuff. I will let you know if they respond. I guess now you'll have to do it again if you want that mug. I don't even have the finisher hat. My child has been wearing it to school telling everyone her Mum did IRONMAN !! She also does a really good demo of me trying to sit in the chair for dinner the night of the race eek! My kid needs a muzzle!!! |

A response: Marcia, All merchandise left over from the events takes 4-6 weeks post (after) the event to be posted to our www.ironmanstore.com site. Thanks for your continued interest and support of Ironman Merchandise! Regards, |

I really, really enjoyed the race, and I definitely want to do better. I really think that, with proper run training, I should be able to cut a good... 20 minutes off my time, so I really have to be there next year |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread GoFaster - 2011-09-19 9:30 AM Who's in for next year? I'm undecided. At this precise moment I'm thinking I'll focus on olys and long distance riding. Maybe ride the 50mile Centurion next Sept. But my mind changes with the hours. IF I decide to try again I will aim to do Peterborough in July and make the call then. I hate using my entire summer for training with no break until Sept. but there is something about that resort - you can hear it calling to you!! Funny to see I'm not the only one still thinking about it!! |

I signed up for IM Mont-Tremblant which is in Aug 19 and I plant to sign up for the HIM MT today. (Registration opens today at noon) I would love to race in Muskoka again next year but I'm not sure how strong I'll be 4 weeks after my first IM. I will listen to my body (and my wallet) before I sign up. |

I want two things from that race. 1) Guage how my fitness is, 2) Race another HIM course to see how it compares. Only worry is that they are going to change dates around next year. I think I heard them say that during race morning in Muskoka that their calendar would be altered next year and I wonder if it has to do with the Tremblant 70.3 in June. Not sure they'll draw the same crowd for Peterbrough. Guess we'll see. |

I'm going to add you to my 'friend' list so I can keep my eye on you! Hold you accountable!! I have already planned out 2012 schedule. Type A or what? I need a plan to succeed. I did nothing last week but eat and drink! Kind of redeemed myself a bit on the weekend. This week will get in to some winter maintenance-type plan I hope.
*All subject to change and most likely will!! |

Elite 3779 Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread I need a plan - I fall off the rails without one. First time back in the pool today and I didn't know what to do with myself since I didn't have a planned workout! As to the schedule, I have no idea what that will look like, but did hear them mention making changes for 2012 - but Muskoka is already listed on the Ironman website for the same weekend as this year. My thought was that Peterborough might get changed. I hope not, but we'll see since it's the only other HIM that's feasible. Welland is flat, so it doesn't have any appeal since the goal is to use the earlier 1/2 to prepare for Muskoka. |

Extreme Veteran 422 Somewhere, British Columbia | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread What about IM Mt Tremblant 70.3 ? Same week end as Welland and I can assure you it won't be flat... I'm doing Tremblant in June as a final preparation for Lake Placid. I though it would have been too close but coach said 4 weeks is still OK... Always trust the coach You might consider this one |

I will be back for sure....although I am ok with my finish, I am left wondering what I may have done if I had not been sick...I hit my long shot predicted time of 6:30 but would really like to do this course 100% healthy. |

Elite 3779 Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Cost prohibitive... As to always trusting the coach, this is *usually* a good idea. However, also question how much the HIM is going to damage you and how that will impact your IM training. After Muskoka, it took three full days for my legs to stop hurting, and probably a couple more to be able to properly run again. Tremblant is going to be a tough course, and you should be at the peak of IM build at that point. Not sure you want that much damage in your legs from the HIM, perhaps an Oly would be better. As a caveat, I tend to recover kind of slowly, so you may be very different. But for me personally, I wouldn't consider racing an HIM that close to IM. My 2 cents. |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread It's awesome that this is already on the radar. I assure you i am thinking hard about it after this year's total suck-fest of spraining my ankle ten days before the race. I am glad i didn't race because that would not have gone well but mentally it's very tough to miss a goal race. However, this will be a last-minute decision for both me and my husband since we're signed up for the full at Mont Tremblant on August 19. If this happens i am guessing a finish would be on a residual fitness i might have after the IM. It is a great race ... |
