Pro 4578 Vancouver, BC | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge I could be wrong, but I think that if you have your default setting set in meters, then you will see everyone's results in meters no matter what their default setting is. Maybe you will need to convert everyone that pledged in yards to a pledge in meters. This will probably take some time. I can help if you need it. Or maybe there is another way? Oh, did everyone add a link to the blog of the person listed underneath them. This should have made the viewing of the logs easier. Jen |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge Sorry to be a pain but there is a few percentages off on the team chyck… From whizzer to pirategirl the formula is off. The formula is taking the value from the cell above ex. =SUM(C27:F27)/C26 - It should be =SUM(C27:F27)/C27. Therefore jeubank for instance has a 108% when it should be 32% By fixing this the net % for the girls should be 28% |

Veteran 257 Stirling, Scotland | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge I've got to agree with Jeng. Just had a look at pirategirl's total's and they are showing as 2652 meters for me, but looking through her logs you can see that she has done 2900 yards. How much do you wish you had never made this challenge TH3 FRB? Can I also point out that jeubanks percentage is obviously wrong. |

8763 Boulder, Colorado | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge Hey everyone - here is what I do and have done for 15-16 years or however long I have been swimming. I log everything in yards so when I swim in meters I multiply by 1.07. If I swim 3,000 meters I enter it into my log as 3210 yards. So why doesn't everyone ENTER the number of yards they swam (either converted or true yards) and then you don't have to worry about changing defaults and all that. |

Pro 3870 Virginia Beach, VA | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge Our slogan is now "all metric, all the time" Okay, here's PLAN B: Everyone set your default unit to meters. If you pledged in meters then you're done. If you pledged in yards then you need to convert to meters and PM me so I can change your pledge. You can still log your daily workout in meters or yards and specify the units for that specific workout...the log will do the conversion for you and add it to your monthly total. Also, everyone PLEASE add the next person on the roster (below you) to your blog tracker so I can just click from one person to the next rather than searching the entire thread. Percentages should be fixed now...I hope. Edited by TH3_FRB 2005-05-09 4:56 PM |

Elite 2553 Tucson, AZ | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge Gwozdzilla - 2005-05-09 1:19 PM My Sunday (4th swim day) where I do a coached workout with my tri club, is in meters. I am going to leave my default as yards BUT on the day I swim meters I will do the conversion (via my handy, dandy calculator) to meters and log that as yards too. ARRGGHH! I forgot that the UA pool is in meters. Dang it. Edited to add: Ok, I fixed it. 2806.29 meters this week. I'll just convert the UA pool on Sundays to yds in my daily blog, but my cumulative blog list is now in meters. At least these mistakes keep increasing my percentage. ;) You know, spacecraft end up crashing into planets because of stuff like this. ;) Edited by PirateGirl 2005-05-09 5:41 PM |

Veteran 118 Roseville, California | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge OK, maybe I'm missing something obvious, but why does it matter whether any individual is logging in meters or yards? The only calculation that is meaningful is the percentage of total pledged swim distance for each person during the month of May. That calculation will remain the same, regardless if you're basing it on meters or yards. The final calculation--the one that determines overall winners (men) from losers (women)--is the average percentage achieved for each team. Somebody please tell me what I'm missing... |

I pleged 12,000 Yards, but if it is taken as 12,000 meters then I have to swim ~10% more to make my pledge. So the instant conversion to meters from yards makes all initial pledges in yards invalid? That makes no sense. If there is going to be a conversion to meters from yards then your 12,000 yards would commit you to 10,972 meters. Apples to apples. But, of course, doing such a conversion is meaningless in this competition, since the outcome either way is the same. Edited by Vapor Trail 2005-05-09 9:25 PM |

Pro 3870 Virginia Beach, VA | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge Here's the deal: My default unit for swimming is meters so when i check your log to update the spreadsheet everything gets reportd in meters automatically. If you pledged in meters then all is good. If you pledged in yards the problem is that your percentages will be off since it is taking your weekly totals (in meters) and dividing through by your pledge (in yards). the solution is to convert your PLEDGE to meters and I'll continue to update everything in meters so the spreadsheet works properly. You can log your workouts any way you like...meters if you swim meters or yards if you swim yards. You can even log yards one day and meters another if you swim at different pools. It will all be converted to meters automatically and tallied in your monthly total when I check it each week. Thanks to those that have helped do the conversions for the rest of the team...I'll sort it all out Tuesday morning and post once I *think* I have it all fixed and you all can check my work. Keep swimming!!! |

I think they are adjusting all of the yards goals to meters, so your goal amount will look different on the spreadsheet. Also when Joel reads your months total he will see meters because that is what his settings are so your amount swam will be converted for you. Just keep swimming. |

Expert 957 St. Louis, MO | Subject: RE: BT Swim Challenge TH3 FRB, An option to clicking around trying to find everyone's logs is to create a hyperlink to that person's calendar log through your spreadsheet. Here's how you do it. 1. Find that person's log and click on "calendar" if it comes up as the blog form (Calendar view is easier because the weekly totals are posted after the last day of that week). 2. In your spreadsheet, highlight the cell of the participant's name and click the Insert drop down on your menu bar at the top. Click Hyperlink in that dropdown. This will ask you for the website that you want to correlate with this cell. 3. Click back to the person's log and highlight the the web address and copy it. Back in Excel, (if the website has not already been Auto-filled with the address (by just simply clicking on the address line)), paste the address in the field labeled "Type the file or Web page name:" 4. The text in the cell automatically becomes a link to that person's log. You just have to click on it and then enter their totals. I am terrible at explaining. If this isn't clear, just let me know and I can try to explain it a little better by email or phone. |
