Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Vineman Full Ironman : Official Thread That's a good list. I don't bring quite that much stuff. I wear a tri suit throughout and all my food is 2 bottles of infinit and 8 GUs. So tri suit, wetsuit, goggles, sunscreen, bodyglide. Bike, helmet socks, glasses, pump, 3x CO2, 2 tubes on me 1 in special needs, handpump on the bike, aerobottle, water bottle, toolkit on the bike. Running shoes, hat, racebelt with GU's in it for the run. So to chime in with everyone elses fatigue, I ran 4 miles today, felt good 7:30 pace and then came home and took a 4 hour nap. Tapped me out, reserves not replenshed yet. |

We plan on getting there Thursday afternoon and gonna take it easy the rest of the day! THURSDAY NIGHT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT NIGHT'S SLEEP!!! I don't usually sleep well the night before a race so make sure I do on Thursday!! Friday~ Sleep in as late as I can! Do an easy bike and maybe a swim, pre-race meeting and a light dinner. Also will organize all the race bags! Saturday AM Get up probably around 3AM and drink some coffee Breakfast will be a shake with Fighter's Blend and a scoop of Endurox. Check Lists Swim
Bike If you are bringing race wheels make sure you ride with them prior to race day, no surprises!!
Hopefully this gives some ideas and I would love to hear from others on what they are doing!! Don't forget your bike shoes!! |

Maybe the fatigue is heightening my stress. I dunno I'm just glad I'm tapering now and don't have to put in big numbers. Get me through this next 2 days and all will be good!!! |

Awesome! Something like vasoline might be nice. I'll be looking forward to the super soaker all six times I pass you!
I will also bring a small hand pump and a spare tire (I flatted 7 times during IMC in 01 because someone dumped carpet tacks throughout the bike course) Whoa. I think at some point I might give up. OK, maybe not. But that is a lot of flatting. The debate in my mind was whether to come prepared for one flat or two. I think I'll go with two tubes, 3 CO2s, and the self-adhering patches that are in my tire irons. There'll be a support car out there somewhere if things get ridiculously bad, right? I've heard stories of people flatting twice during an IM, but I haven't flatted in the last 2,500 miles, and I ride what have to be some of the worst roads in the country. That said, I can't imagine how disappointing it would be to DNF because of flats. I'm with y'all on the fatigue and motivation. Seems my body mostly wants to sit around and eat ice cream right now. I've also got my first case of saddle sores to deal with. Keeping it clean and well greased hasn't taken care of it, so I'm headed to the drug store for some Neosporin this afternoon, and I may swap out my Adamo for a regular saddle for a little while to try to take friction off that area. Anyone have any magic cures I haven't thought of? |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Vineman Full Ironman : Official Thread Probably bring a chair and setup on the high school side of the street by the trees where you can get some shade between the finish and the first turn. That is where I would hang out, cool, everyone comes by 6 times and they will be on that side of the street. Not sure where you can replenish your water unless you set up at an aid station farther in. |

This is my first Non-IM branded Full and I know that the Volunteers are usually really helpful (often times too helpful) especially in Transition in the IM branded races and I'm just wondering if I can expect the same if not better at Vineman Edited by runrgrlshubby 2011-07-15 7:13 AM |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Vineman Full Ironman : Official Thread They have wetsuit strippers.. for enterainment... But the vollunteers are good, but not as pushy as the IMs. Part of it is the lower number of people (1000 vs 2500). I belive Vineman used to be IM branded but they dropped the branding, so the organizational structure is similar. Do you have specific questions? |

I battled saddle sores a few years ago. I Googled a bunch of things and while this will not prevent them, Preparation H will help shrink them. At this point, your training is in the bank. Let the sores heal, before jumping back on the bike. |

PBI - Sorry for crashing your thread, but actually there was one year, 2002, that Vineman partnered with WTC (NA Sports at that time, I believe) and was officially IM Vineman. The reason was that was the year of the first, original IM Utah. The weather was bad, and the wind blew all the buoys off the swim course. The swim was canceled, but not until after they fired the start cannon, so it was chaos. They held up everyone coming out of the water and turned it into roughly a half distance duathlon. Because of the chaos, they offered entries into other IMs - 50 to Canada, 50 to LP, 50 to Florida and the rest they partnered with Vineman for the one and only 'Ironman Vineman' Sorry if I just bored everyone to tears.... |

I've done 7 tri's (sprints + 1 Oly) and can take my wetsuit off pretty quickly on my own. How does a stripper add any value? It'd only be the speed really. Tough to be faster than just rolling on your back and having two people yank off your suit though. I always get my suit stuck on my ankles/heel (and I've even put cutouts on my suit) so it helps me out quite a bit. BTW, at Vineman, the carpet in T1, where the strippers typically are gets a little sandy/gravelly so if you use the stripper (and even if you don't), expect to get some sand on you (e.g. feet) which you may want to clean off to avoid irritation/blisters. Also, sticking dollar bills into the clothing of the strippers would probably not be welcome, but a heartfelt thanks would be. |

I dunno...but I've done something like 20 tri's, I think (2 IMs) and I normally wouldn't hesitate at this point to let a wetsuit stripper pull the thing off me. Definitely a little wearier and wobblier after swimming 2.4 miles than 1500m. Stripper at IM St George certainly yanked my suit off me faster than I've ever managed to do myself. OTOH, Donato had a good point about the narrow area and the sand where they'd be removing the suit at VM...there is that to consider. I would say that Steve is 100% correct about the "pushy" factor (nicer word might be "solicitous", I suppose)...at VM, once you were at your bike in T1, you were left alone. At IM St George, I had a guy hovering over me wanting to help put my wetsuit and swim gear in the bag for transport to the finish. Both were point-to-point (two transition) iron distance races, but different approaches on the part of the volunteers. VM is a bit more "DIY"...nobody tackling you coming out of the changing tent in T2 and slathering sunscreen on you. |

Just to piggy back on Todd's comments on differences, the changing tent is quite small and you are doing most of your transition at your rack location that is typical at shorter distance or non-IM branded races. Changing tent is really only provided if nudity is involved and not a main changing area like at full IM branded races. There aren't bike handlers (i.e. you re-rack your bike yourself at T2). |
