Canada vs US

We add the times

Canada : Arend+Marc
US : James+Fred

Winning country gets bragging rights

Are you guys in ?

Sure I am in, but Fred just got a handicapped.

Ya, and Arend just got an old fart.
James, who's older ? I'm Sept 62.

7 Jul 62

If James is 'old', that makes me.....'old'.....doh !!!!!

Funny story : I was in Florida and was riding with a guy who finished 2nd 4x at the world ultraman championship. He lives in Colorado. By the way he is 'older' than James and I

We are talking and realize he lived in Ottawa, I live in Ottawa.....wow...we both have daugthers same age....wow...they WORK together ...geez and they are 'friends' or at least FB friends.

So I ask my daughter "did you know this guy is one of the best in the world at Ultraman which is a dual Ironman"

Her response : "No, I knew he did Ironman and stupid things like that, but I thought he was just an old sweaty guy like you"

Gotta love kids.

Well if Canada is the new Soviet Union, sure. Seems close enough. Might want to be more specific to which movie as Rocky did actually lose several of the fights. Wink

Originally posted by ChrisM I really need to figure out this pacing thing.  Had a 2 hour run yesterday, negative split.  Ran a downhill to flat course (last two miles uphill).  THought I was going a comfortable pace, but HR was a little high, on the way out.  Coming back, knew I could not negative split the uphill so concentrated on neg splitting miles 8-12, which I did.  that last two miles were hard, but my 13.1 time would have been a HM PR.   When they say the beginning of a long paced workout should be really easy, they mean really stupid easy.

Was it supposed to be negative split? And by how much? I usually don't worry about it too much and just run at *about* the right effort most of the time. Some could be over, some could be under. I'm only disappointed when I actually design it to be a negative split and don't get it.

We stopped for gas in Oklahoma, and this guy comes running out of the quick shop and says to my husband, "I had to check out your sweet ride." My husband puffs out his chest, and says, "Yeah. It's nice." The catch? The kid was talking about my bike!!! My husband had to get me from the car. "Honey. This young man wants to talk to you about your bike." LOL It was a great moment for me. My husband is still bruised.

Awesome.

Now get out and ride that puppy!

Matt

Thanks, Matt. I am heading out this morning. Bike route planned. Provisions stocked. I hope to be gone most of the day. We will see how it goes. This is urban riding, which I don't do any of. Ever. So I'm not expecting much speed, but I should get a chance to break in the saddle.

Sorry Arend, but Rocky IV may work out very well. With the Russian coming out very strong (the swim), but ending up losing later on! Wink

How close are the US pair to Philly too? I see they're already in Pennsylvania.

I didn't say the outcome would be in our favor but it could produce some equally compelling drama.

Yes, but rumor is they are no longer in Pennsylvainia.

They have rented a cabin in northern quebec, and are supposed to be chopping wood and running in the snow.

Fred was rumored to not be willing to chop wood with a bad back and James didn't want to run in the snow.

Arend on the other hand was running on the treadmill and taking his vitamins
Marc was getting a massage from Brigitte Nielsen.

Honestly when you guys said "Rocky" and "Canadian" I actually thought more like this:

Rocky and Bullwinkle

versus this:

Boris and Natasha

Of course I first thought that James and Fred were Rocky and Bulwinkle, and Marc and Arend were Boris and Natasha (we all know which is which of course) but then I just read that Boris and Natasha were secret agents from Potsylvania - isn't that where Fred and James actually live in real life? Now I am completely confused as to who is who and who I am pulling for even....

Ok group - I have real-life predictions from both James and Marc (as well as my own) I gotta at least get one from both Fred and Arend. I'll take 'em from anybody else in the group that wants to play as well.

And hopefully without giving anything away, I can say that Marc is just as good of a sandbagger as James....

Stupid BT, self posting for me.

Are we just estimating their finish time or who wins as well?  and if who wins as well, is that by country (go Canada) or by individual, or both?

The finished product. She's vintage all the way (even the pos crank). Kiss Just like me, I guess.

I'm heading out to watch The Great Gatsby, and then I'll go by the bike shop to figure out where to ride. I wasted about 90 minutes on that futile task last night. Today, I'm going to the experts.

You all might appreciate this . . . my husband just bought a new Land Rover Evoque that he is completely in love with. We drove it down to Texas, with my baby on the bike rack behind. Felicia - that bit about your husband is awesome! He should know that is a nice little car though - there is a fairly funny Top Gear episode where James May drove the Evoque across Death Valley to pick up Cher. As for your bike it is awesome, and even brings a little tear to the eye. I still have a set of Spinergy Rev-Xs that I am going to put on my fixie if I ever get around to building it up. Really the only thing that would be better on that bike (only to make it a complete legit throw-back, as it is sweet as-is) would be a set of those swoopy scott bars or the loop triangle profiles (that is what I had). Or maybe at least a set of Profile Centuries - they would probably be more contemporaneous with the frame. Have fun riding it today, and for a lot more days to come!

Oh, really what ever you want - just for fun. Marc and James just gave me individual finish order, no times (it was before the international team challenge) and James even broke it down by discipline. I have an idea about discipline placement, but only listed my individual overall finish predictions.

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
