do you guys put your tech t's in the dryer or on the drying rack?  i always put em' on the drying rack, well the one time i did laundry a year and a half ago when jarrett was sick.  i just took a load out of the wash and it was ridiculous having to set em' all up on the rack.

I put my tech t's in the dryer, except for bike shirts and one Nike top.

Speaking of clothing, what do you guys do with your sweaty stuff post workout?  I don't like throwing it directly in the hamper, used to hang it over our MB tub that we never used until dry then wash but now my bathroom is the size of a closet.  Anyone have a cool setup in the bathroom or laundry room?

the floor! the dogs don't care. except joe.  he lays in the clean laundry...

Please tell me that grey thing is your dirty sock and not the arm sleeve of your t shirt.

And how did poor Dino get dragged into this convo?

Never mind the grey thing, how about the nice pink clothing underneath it?

All my workout clothes go in the dryer.  If they didn't, I'd probably have to wash them myself and that isn't in anybody's best interest.  Sweaty stuff goes in the hamper and usually reappears in the drawer, washed and folded, a couple days later.

where there's a majority, there's also a minority.  a very capable swimmer from our church drowned in water he was able to stand in.  water at any depth should be respected.

edit.. well, there does not have to be a minority if the majority is 100%.  but i think you get my point.

I'm sorry to hear about your fellow church member and I do agree that water at any depth should be respected.  But I am curious, is it known how he got into trouble?  panick, cramp, heart attack?  If you really want to find an answer to your question the "why" matters. Not sure it's possible but...

Yeah, the bastard never even thanked me.  His wife did but not him.  Doesn't matter.  I'm much happier knowing he didn't die in front of his kids.

Good luck Kyla!  Kick some CdA tushie!!!

Love that comment above!!!

I'm always amazed how people react when you rescue them. Young guys pretend they didnt need saving and parents pretend get defensive about the fact they failed to watch their kids.'

I swam out and rescued a little girl aged 8 on my last patrol of the season, her face was slipping under the water as I reached her; I'd swum like crazy to get to her in time and even then I only just made it, don't think I took a breath the whole way out!

When I carried her up the beach to her mother she just said "well I've got 5 kids to keep an eye on!"; no thankyou's or any sign of gratitude; I felt like saying f#$k you! you nearly lost your daughter today...

workout clothes go in front of the washing machine (per my wife's request) and gets hung on a rack to dry.

David--great job saving that 8 year old.  Really, really suprised by the mother's reaction.  I know when the 3 marines saved me, I was so grateful I would have kissed them AND given them my lifesavings.  Course I had sand in every part of my body and coughing life I had pneumonia so that never happened.  Just a very hearty thank you from Paul and me!

My workout clothes go in the washing machine the minute I get home.  If I am not washing them that day, I spritz them with a product like Febreze.  I don't dry any of them.  Paul thinks our laundry room is a mess because they are hanging all over to dry. No clothes on the floor, EVER in this household.  My rule.

Dino--ignore Fatty.  You'll know you did the right thing on 7/17 early afternoon

Wow, David it is wonderful you saved a child. Sorry for the mother's reaction, I just don't get it, she is blessed to still have her daughter.

I never made a save when I guarded in the Atlantic ocean, but I went in a few times when I thought I would have to pull a person out.

Good luck to our racers this weekend!

David- I cannot believe that mother's reaction! Awful.  From me to you... thank you for saving that girl's life.

hmmm. Does that mean you or your SO's do laundry multiple times a week?  I can barely do it once a week and hate the thought of my clothes possibly getting moldy from all the moisture. I'll think of something beside finding a new spouse, one who does the laundry.

I pretty much do all the laundry, almost a load every day.  Now putting clothes away that's another matter, we might have 3-4 baskets of unfolded clean clothes sitting in our bedroom right now.

So what is everyone driving to move bikes and kids around.

We really don't want a minivan but that seems to be the best vehicle for transporting everything comfortably.  I'd rather not have an external rack on the vehicle so bikes would need to be stored inside the vehicle.

we have a F250 extended cab (diesel & 8' bed), a sienna and a suburban.  with two kids the truck and van are great.  with three they don't really work, truck for sure so it almost always the surbuban.  so if you're gonna have another i'd suggest the surburban.  its really an awesome vehicle. and very comfortable.  the area behind the third row is what sets it apart from a tahoe.  if you're sticking with two kiddos than go with the honda oddessy.  that thing is awesome too. i like the sienna but it just ain't the odyssey.

get xm no matter what you decide.  and i wouldn't get the dvd player from the dealer as they waaaay over price it, like all their stuff.  by it aftermarket for like a 10th of the coast.

the truck has a single rack in the bed.  the van and suburban share a 4 bike thule.

something to keep in mind, as i'm sure you know...  when looking at vehicles think about how you're going to keep them separated... ie choose captains chairs over a bench if you can.  the last thing you want is the kids sitting right next to each other, no matter the distance of the drive.

I put my tech t-shirts in the dryer, always on the no heat setting and never any dryer sheets. (something with the chemicals will stop the wicking properties if used .....  http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/fabric+care.html)  No bike jerseys, tri-jerserys, or padded bibs/shorts of any kind ever in the dryer.  They get hung up to dry.  It seems like I have so many race tech t's that if one or two get retired every year, there is always enough.

I do my own work-out laundry because the Bride doesn't need to deal with that sweaty mess.  I use one big laundry basket and an old coat rack I found at a garage sale for a $1.00 and have a dedicated corner in the basement that I hang the stuff to dry on the rack after workouts, keep the clean stuff, etc.  I find I only need to do wash about once a week that way.  The Cat sure seem to like sleeping in that stinky corner of the basement!!!!

As the weekend approaches, I have realized that not racing this weekend was definitely the right decision based on life right now.  Anybody want a couple of teenage high school aged girls for the summer????

AND, Mile 9 of that half-marathon will be here soon enough.

We really don't want a minivan but that seems to be the best vehicle for transporting everything comfortably.  I'd rather not have an external rack on the vehicle so bikes would need to be stored inside the vehicle.

My 2 cents:  If you guys are sticking with the 2 kids, a minivan like the Oddessy is a great call.  The third row seat folds totally flat, and if you take off the front wheels you can line up several bikes next to one another in that back area.  That would avoid any rack system out the back or on top. We have one and it is great.

If you guys are thinking about more kids (you are welcome to one or more of mine), I think John has the right idea.

Also, I have to agree with John on the dvd player.  They are charging WAY too much for it.  In fact, looking toward the future, it probably makes more sense to get a couple of used first generation iPads and hang them from the head rests of the driver and passenger.  That way each child has his/her own entertainment and they do not argue over what to watch/play on long journeys; you can sync videos and apps from iTunes (so you only have to buy them once), and the whole thing -- including the iPads and apps, videos, etc. -- is both less expensive and more versatile than the ceiling mounted dvd player.

Just a thought.

Yes, I had a major one when I was in High school. Bike crash without a helmet. Pretty much used my head to stop my fall. When I woke up I didn't remember who I was for a few hours. I didn't break any bones but had major road rash even took off some of my hair on the right side of my head.

I had big headaches for about three weeks. Even now if I accidently bump my head "I see stars."

Yes, in college.  I was riding on my boyfriends shoulders to stay up the masses at a Madison Halloween Party on State Street and he dropped me.  My head hit the curb.  Off to the ER.....probably one of the reasons I am like I am....why do you ask?

Fatty--I am petite, not short, you're right my swim is about slow as your bike and my bike that I don't ride was $11M about as much as you spend on beer each year and all you do is p$ss that away.  So there.......

PS. Can you believe p$ss is a word that is eliminated by the BT filter...really?

Jayne:  Oh My. uh, um, well, geez, not many people admit to that in public but do have some fun being popped. As Trevor would say though, without pictures it never happened.

Swim Alone. If I am out alone on our lake I stay near the swimmers buoy line and just do lengths. If with others we stay reasonably close together and watch for boats etc. Our lake doesn’t allow power boats but the rowing club had a nasty habit of rowing where we swim. Two weeks ago we were having a club chase event and the rowing club were out practicing. We had 3 boats row right through where we were racing. I mean right through about 7/8 swimmers and they were yelling at us to get out of the area we had marked with buoys.  ^)*#@&%_)!!!!!  stupid cox.

Laundry. Tech T’s in the dryer. Tri shorts and hats hang. Stopped wearing socks so no issue there.  I’m with John for the dirty stuff. Floor by the washer and even then I have to wash it. My wife won’t touch any of my workout gear. It is probably a result of all the years of hockey and the stench that arises from that. She insists I keep that stuff in the garage cold or not.

Suzy: were you in the water when the 3 big hunky marines saved you Wink

David: Awesome that you were able to save that young girl’s life. Totally fantastic.  Mother’s response was totally ignorant. I would liked to have seen her face if you had come back with something like you almost only had 4 to watch.

Moving bike and assorted equipment. Ford Ranger Pick me up

Concussion: Yeah I had a slight one once. I was about to put on my shoes to go out and the cat ran under my feet. Jumped to miss the cat, went over backwards and hit my head on the ceramic floor. Felt absolutely horrible, Headache of course but also felt like puking for a day or two after. I just wanted to go to sleep. Doc said stay awake for awhile. Really crappy feeling.

Only one?  I've have to check the files, but I have had more than I can remember! (HA!)

The best story is I played a period and a half of Juniors Hockey with absolutely no memory of that part of the game.  I've been told I actually played pretty well!  All those head injuries, stitches, broken jaw, etc. are probably why I have such a thick skull!  Laughing

Why do you ask?  PM me ......

Jayne- thanks for the hippity hop link. I might try it... boats are my #1 concern and it looks like it would work well for visibility. Enjoy your race this weekend! There's only one first. You've done everything you can to prepare, so have fun and enjoy the day. This is the reward for all your hard training. I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Kyla- You are an Ironman! I know I don't have to tell you to soak it all in... ENJOY! I can't wait to follow you and cheer you on! GO, KYLA, GO!!!

All our other weekend racers- Have fun and good luck! I'm looking forward to reading the race reports!

Steve- Thanks for the trail advice! Would love to meet up with you before we leave, if you have time and it doesn't involve running, biking, or swimming. Maybe a hike?

Tech clothes- everything, but hat and hydration packs, goes in the dryer with no dryer sheet. Mostly this is due to lack of space to hang things, since I spend most of my time in an RV, but I haven't had any problems with it.

Congrats to our Lifeguard/life savers! Truly awesome and inspiring ( even though the "bastard" and kid's mom were jerks)!

I Slipped while bouldering on a V3 route back in the days of being adventurous and my spotter (Kathy) said my head looked like a pinball coming down this narrow passage. I don't remember much but feeling headaches for a week after and nauseous the first few days. Scary!Doctor told me not to sleep the first nite. Probably added to my nausea.
