![]() This brings up Sally's post above. I too felt stronger and more flexible when I was doing yoga semi regularly (once a week). So why don't I do it??? So hard to fit everything in with work, family, rest, play, swim, bike, run, commute, strength, yoga.... I need a sugar mama |

Do make sure she sees the last link before she attends class - it should be mandatory. I can't watch the videos at work but if it involves blaming one of the dogs or someone around you we are good... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Over in the Georgia group Dan Arnett (Head Coach, Endurance Concepts) just posted a brief description of his 10 week training block leading up to IM Cabo. He of course has a huge base on which to build, but he outlines how he maximizes his training time by including some higher intensity training in the mix. Even includes a little math to make his point. And it gives him two extra hours a week for his yoga practice. http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=482306&posts=7&start=1 |

![]() Also excited now that races are getting into full gear. Kate's started the group off with a solid start to the HIM season for the group, so lets keep it going. I believe Dusty (FastYellow) is also racing Oceanside. Really curious to see how he'll do as he couldn't run for most of last year's racing season, but seems to be in good form this year. |

I've finally moved to swimming at the new gym so all my swims will now be 25M - they just take so much longer. But this water must also be more dense cause I'm not swimming as fast I was at the 25yd pool - even when I factor in the increased distance. Depending on how good/bad your turns and pushoffs are, you do get slower overall the longer the pool gets (not 5-10s/100 or anything like that...) Anyway, I swam a ladder set this morning. 100,200,300,400, and back down. I basically held a 1:48 pace throughout, although my stroke count was increasing a bit near the end, and I was taking about :25-:35 sec rest. Because I'm a wimp, and don't want to try a 1000 straight at the moment, I'm going to consider this my T-pace. Based on this, what should I be swimming my sets as, and how much rest in between for say: 10x100 These would make up part of approximately a 2500M total set. I don't think I can swim further at the moment based on the time I get to the pool - and my speed once in it. I don't know if I can give you the "right" answer as I haven't done much work based specifically on T pace but I will give you an idea of how I normally do stuff like that. My T pace is ~1:20 ish - I did a set of 40x50 last week and it was on :45 with my times being in the 38/39 range and some faster ones thrown in (4 x every 4th, 4 x every 3rd, 4 x every 2nd, then 4x). So my pace was just under T pace and 6-7s rest. This focuses on solid steady pacing with short rest. - I also did a set last week that had a mix of 50s and 100s but in this case the 50s were on :50 and the 100s on 1:40. The difference was that the 50s were descended 1-4 and one of the 100s was fast. So in this case, I get a little more rest but I'm working harder and focusing on more speed. So, the answer is "it depends". LOL Try a few different things. Do the 10x100 on 2:00 and try to hold the 1:48s or a tad under. If you can easily hold 1:45 then do the set on 1:55 instead. On another day, do them on 2:05 or 2:10 and try to get your time down closer to 1:40. Thanks Arend. Funny part about swimming slower is that when I swim at the Municipal 25M near work, I'm about 2-3sec/100 faster. |

I don't know, but the community pool I have access to is definately 2-4 seconds faster per 100 than my YMCA pool. Both are advertised as 25y. I'm too lazy to measure, and I don't really want to know for sure in case I end up doing a 1000y TT soon. |

It was built with the primary purpose of being a community pool. They do have those cheap lane lines (rope with the oval floaters in between), but they don't haven any black lines at the bottom. It's all blue tile with some designs of turtles here and there. Still useful for getting in a workout, and it only costs $85 per year for me and my GF to swim there. It's also open 21 hours a day, 365 days a year. |

It's more than good enough to get the job done - especially for that price! We did have lines on the bottom though. Painted turtles might have helped... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tri808 - 2013-03-26 5:59 PM I suspect our pool is not a full 25 either although the guards swear it is. One of these days I am going to measure it for myself. But we do have lane lines and black lines on the bottom. Turtles would be fun. Our hours are horrible, but it's free for us, so it's still a good deal. I guess. I would love to have pool access 21 hours a day. Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, I'm going to brag a little, but I also have a question for you gals out there I started dieting on the last week in Feb. so I've been eating 1600 calories per day for about a month. In that time I lost 10 lbs!!!!! Yeah I'm excited! I have also made the transition to doing more tri training and less crossfit training (but no running because of PF in my right heel, hopefully I will ease back into running next month via elipitcal trainer at gym). My question(s) 1. I have a sprint tri coming up on June 2nd with a 5k run at the start (it's a flip tri you run first). should I pound the pavement (which may hurt my heel again), or stay on elipitical till race day increasing the intensity till race day? 2. For you ladies: My GF is doing same diet as me but only 1200 calories per day and is running more this month than she usually does. She is not losing any weight. WTH is going on? she is very fustrated. Any help I could give her would be appreciated. thanks |

I would take a much longer term approach and (re)develop running as able to do so. You run or do other activities as your body develops to be able to handle it, not adjust the training to hit something by a specific time. I'd just see how the recovery goes and would consider not doing the event at all if things weren't going well enough. Other options may come up as well, but the main idea is to let your recovery progress guide what you can do, not adjusting your recovery to fit a point in time. |

[email protected] - 2013-03-27 8:55 AM Congratulations on the weight loss. And you suck! WTH is going on? she is very fustrated. Any help I could give her would be appreciated. thanks Your girlfriend may need to eat more. Some people claim that our bodies can go into "starvation mode" if we don't give it enough. I am not sure I buy it, but she could try increasing, with good foods, 200 calories or so and see if she starts to see some movement. Maybe she doesn't have much to lose. Does she have real weight to lose or just vanity pounds? How tall is she? I am short (and old) so I also don't lose with running and 1200 calories. I have to add interval work to see any movement. I know it's supposed to be calories in and calories out, but it doesn't always seem that simple to me. Does she do any Crossfit? Maybe she's cheating when no one is watching? (But don't accuse her of that.) Edited by KansasMom 2013-03-27 10:09 AM |

![]() Yesterday I was dragging big time, left over from the weekend. Working with a coach, I actually do less in training week to week (I need a coach to help rein me in), but would have done less this week than given. Feels like it is a little much, but I pay him for his coaching, so I am going with it. It is certainly not over the top. But last night's swim sparked something and I felt fantastic after. Last little brick this morning, :50 trainer and 1.5 mile run at HIM pace, concentrating on slowing down. The weird thing is I have always had to worry about speeding up. Now I have to slow myself down. I know it's for the overall good but it doesn't jibe with my history, so it's a little foreign. Didn't quite make it to race weight, but darn close, so I am thrilled with it. Gonna pack everything up tonight, so I can unpack it tomorrow night when I start thinking about the things I might have left out |
