Blagels - 2009-07-08 1:47 AM I'm still pretty surprised that Lance is so close to yellow. I honestly didn't expect him to be much of a factor this year, and I'm a total Lance fanboy. I bet Contador is pi$$ed.

Well I would take Lance over Contador...

Definitely. Hushovd is behind Cav for the green jersey atm too. I'd like to see Thor in green, although I think it's pretty clear that Cav is just plain dominating out there. He's a cocky bugger, though.

He is quite likable though...I learnt that last year!

Glad Garmin took it to Columbia in the TTT, a little pay back after Cav was running his mouth prior to the Giro.

Great stage today.

I thought that LA looked great today. He took some massive pulls early on and seemed to be gassed at the end. Contador looked stronger at the end but it seemed like his pulls were shorter for the bulk of the race from what they showed on the converage. Anyone agree?

Man I didn't have a chance to watch the broadcast today but enjoyed the results!  Now what will Astana do with 3 guys up in the top 5?

I will not be suprised to see some type of report out that says Astana slowed down the last km so they would not have to defend the yellow jersey. Haven't seen video but hope that they pushed the whole way.

I was really pulling for Garmin. I just love underdogs. The past two days of coverage have been awesome. It is good to see a real race for first instead of a race for second (even more interesting when so many contenders are on the same team). Makes you wonder if in-fighting will help or hinder in the mountains when strong teammates are so important.

Anyone know what happens to the people who weren't in the formation during a TTT?  Do they lose the amount of time that they trail by?

I agree that Columbia was burned after yesterday's adventure.

I doubt Astana pulled-up so they wouldn't have to defend.  This race is so early, but it seems more intense than in years past.  Am I crazy?

Can't remember what year it was but Lance has been accused of soft pedalling at the end of a TT before so not to have the pressure of the jersey.  David Miller beat him that day by a second or two.  I don't think this happened today though.  Lance wants that jersey.

Yes, the riders that don't finish with the team get whatever time they ride the course in and not the same as the 5th man across the line.  If you think about it it has to be this way otherwise the GC guys could cruise the course to save their legs and still get the same time as their hard working team.

I think most people think this but if you consider his record I don't think it is all that surprising.

Very few people thought he would ever return to cycling, let alone be a factor in the TdF after cancer.  Nobody though he would win the prologue in 1999 and then when he was in yellow nobody thought he would survive the mountains.  Remember Sestriere...  Then in 2000 with Ulrich and Pantani back few people thought he could beat them.  He crushed them.  A lot of people didn't think it was possible for him to win 6 as some of the best riders of all time had failed.  He won 7.

Yes, he's a lot older now, has been away from the sport for a long time and his preparation did not go as planned but I don't think it is wise to doubt what he is capable of.

It was Dave Zabriskie in 2005..... He wants the jersey sure, I just wonder if he would want it this early. Personally I think he will have it after stage 7 but then lose it at stage 16 or 17 to Contador. Just my opinion.Smile

He won't give it up.  If anything, he'll have it wrestled away from him.   How'd he climb in the Giro?  I didn't get to see too much of it.  If he still has that Lance Killer instinct, he'll break himself before he lets someone beat him on a mountain stage.

I don't know who on here said it, but someone said "I'd rather blow-out my spleen than walk my bike up a mountain."  I think Lance is the same way about those mountain stages.

His climbing in the Giro wasn't bad, but not great either.  He got better as the race went on and by the end was stronger than Levi, having to wait for him at one point.  He was still a little of the pace of the top few though.

But, that was May...

Aaaargh too busy mixing a stupid Guinea Pig film to follow this properly. Sorry Chris, the Guines Pigs are NOT at fault, the Director is.

I have seen WAY too many previews for that movie.  It's scary that it's starting to grow on me.

I'm just happy Garmin took second.  I was pretty impressed with their time given only 5 riders.

Rewatching the late version on VERSUS and they show guys warming up on the turbos with a cotton plug in nose and right before ASTANA mounts their bike ,  Contador has both nostrials plugged with a white cotton plug?    what's up with that?

Love the TTT... Garmin had a really great ride, especially going with just the 5 guys for so long, but you just knew Astana had too much horsepower and were very focused on this stage.
