Does anyone have any info regaridng wetsuit rentals for this race?  My husband and I both have sleeveless wetsuits and will want fulls for the race.  We'd rather rent than buy one.  don't they usually have wetsuit rentals available where you reserve it ahead of time and then you can pick/drop off before and after the race??  Just trying to figure out our options.

I do not know if you can rent onsite but in Spokane Valley (20 miles away) you can rent suits from Fitness Fanatics http://www.fitfanatics.com/

FWIW - I have done IMCDA in the past in a sleeveless suit and been fine.  However, I'm a little more insulated than your typical 2%BF triathlete.

I've seen those neoprene arm warmers that you can wear that essentially turns a sleeveless into a full- with the exception of a small exposed area on the upper arm/shoulder.  Has anyone ever used those before for colder water temps?  I'm thinking that they would probably work pretty good and you'd have a lot more mobility with your arms than a full wetsuit??

I did it in 2008, the coolest swim in CDA to date. I was in the water for 90 minutes and while I was a bit cool, I managed just fine.

My gut feeling, going on 49 years of local knowledge, is that this year could be the warmest swim to date.

Baowolf - 2010-01-17 8:58 PM Thanks for the info, I will have to look into it.  I am sure that my body would like to not do 2 IM and 2 maries within an 11 month period.

Congrats on your BQ Baowolf!  From what I recall, your time is good for 18 months, so you can go next year - which is good, because I'm pretty sure the marathon sold out in mid-November.  I'll be going back to Boston again this year and I've got Carlsbad on Sunday.  Hopefully the multiple marathons won't beat me up too bad before CDA.

2-hour hammerfest up the coast with the Tri Club here on Sat and then a 12-mile trail run on Sunday.  Master's swim tonight before some taper.  Going to be getting some heavy rain here in San Diego over the next few days, so outside time will be limited.  Hopefully, it will all blow over before the race on Sunday.

How's everyone else's training coming along?

Reality continues to settle in.  Just booked transportation for my bike with Tribike Transport.

Also signed up for the Breathless Agony Century held in May.  My bike group will start training for this in February.   Using this as my platform to ramp up on the bike.

In taper right now for the Carlsbad Marathon which is leaving too much time to get anxious and fidgety. Smile

Should we start the rumor now that it might not be wetsuit legal this year or should we at least wait until spring?

Might as well start it now.

And wow I made myself old... Only 40 years, NOT 49.

The water is going to feel like a spa!

On another note, anyone ride/race with tubulars?  How is the learning curve with going from clinchers to tubulars?  I know some guys that have gone tubular and will never go back.  However, I worry about the flat tire factor...

yep, i used http://wetsuitrental.com/ in 2008 and thought they did a great job.  if there are any issues with fit they overnight a new one to you.  they ship them out early and mine fit perfectly the first time.

When will you ship my wetsuit?
We ship all suits out 2 Wednesdays before your event weekend or within 48 hours of placing your order - whichever is later. This is your Ship Date
(not arrival date). Note that most orders are processed in 24 hours. We suggest you choose your shipping option assuming a 48-hour turn around just to be safe.

Hmmm....so much to think about.  I got in last year in just a swim suit to just to see what it was like and I was not cold when I was in the water.  I want the mobility of a sleeveless, but I am worried about chaffing....is it worse in a sleeveless?

Regarding mobility- I was wondering if these sleeves would be a good option for a sleeveless?  I haven't seen a lot of people wear these at races and am curious if they are worth it or not.

http://www.trisports.com/quintana-roo-wetsuit-speedsleeves.html

I was thinking that I could wear these to keep my arms warm and have a little bit of upper arm exposure to the water but have the mobility, as opposed to a full.  And they might be easier to remove- not sure??  But...for the price of these sleeves I could rent a full wetsuit for the weekend.  Hmmm....

In my experience chafing is definitely worse in the sleeveless - lots of skin-to-skin contact.  It gets much better after a few times in the water, but I'll be racing in my full suit for sure.  Unless, of course, it's not wetsuit legal

Just a FYI if your shipping your bike with tribike transport they sent an email to day to get 2009 price (must do by feb1).  Code is TBT2009PC  they say it saves $40

If anyone is traveling from NC, Inside Out Sports offers the same trucking service as tri bike transport.  And it's $250 TOTAL, no active.com processing fee   I called them yesterday and they said they would have more information posted on their website next month.

Pretty sure it's $50 each way on Southwest - at least it was this summer when I traveled from SD to Sea-Tac for Lake Stevens.  I did have to rent a case from the Tri Club, but that was only like $25.

Ok I looked into the BQ thing, ya sold out for 2010, but my race qualifies me for 2011, so no dilema for CDA.

I love my wetsuit for long colder swims (Full).  I also like the idea of wetsuit strippers... although I am not sure why, I never see any at races, just some folks that push you down and yank your wetsuit off.

After taking some time off the run after my mary I will be officially out of shape in all 3 events.  So 6 months to build it back so as to shoot for a sub 12:00:00 IM.  After 6 months of hard work on the run that will hopefully buy me 20 minutes over last year.  The bike is my main fear at this point.  Need to get going on stuff.... but then walking effortlessly is also a good shorterm goal.

I don't think that applies to oversize luggage.  Pretty sure the 2 free bags have to satisfy a maximum size / weight requirement.  You can check a lot of other things through with the bike, though.  Just be careful with CO2 cartridges and lube, etc.
