3 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I am in for Boise. This is my first half Iron and nervous about it. I have been so focused on marathon training and got talked into Boise. So of course I don't think I have trained well enough. But I did ride 50 last Saturday in 2:37 for 19 mph on a fairly hilly course. Felt pretty good after and was going to run, but it started raining pretty bad, so I bagged it. Really appreciate all the info here. It has answered a ton of my questions. My goal is to finish and have enough left on the run to actually run. We shall see. I tend to push a little on the bike, gotta stop that.Sweet part is I fell to temptation and got my first tri bike. 2011 Felt B14. Love it. A little getting use to the whole aero bars action, but my speeds went up about a mph. Just wish my wife realized how cool it is Anyway, good luck to all and look forward to reading more posts. |

Thanks... unfortunately, I think I may have paid a price. My knee is REALLY stiff and aching. Think I may have strained the patellar tendon. Oh well... If I can run a half and bike 80 miles on a torn ACL, this should be easy, right???? ugh... On a brighter note, I just ordered my neoprene cap, so hopefully my brain won't suffer frost bite |

yes you can just swim, plus look at running in the water. They have those things you put around your waist to allow you to run in the water. That might be helpful to you. Hopefully your patellar tendon calms down some. I've been having a few issues like that myself and just been doing ibuprofen...
On another note, I plan on wearing a silicon cap, neoprene cap, and the race cap given to me. I've been wearing my silicon cap and neoprene cap and my head hasn't gotten cold. |

Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread A transition question for the Boise Vets.... With the "clean" transitions, do we get to lay out our stuff in T1, or is the bike stuff just sitting in the bag? I'm trying to figure out how to practice my transitions a bit and if it is all in a bag it is going to change things a bit. |

According to the Athlete's guide "Helmets, bike shoes, and other cycling gear must be placed inside
I agree this will completely change things |

I agree this will completely change things I don't think it will make things terribly harder. In all reality, I am trying to have almost everything on the bike or myself anyway. Picture someone swimming in an aero helmet! |

New user 41 Portland | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread So I attempted to buy shuttle tickets for my friend and I and got the below message. The website said they'd be available until June 1 so I thought I had time.... I emailed the race to see if it was going to open up as advertised.
Sorry: Online registration is currently closed. Extra tickets will be on sale during expo hours at the Info Booth at the Boise Centre. To reserve your ticket before they sell out, please visit the Info Booth as soon as possible. |

Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I have 2 extra tickets for the shuttle (bought 2 on the first, 2 on the second). I'm not sure which time slot we will have as extras right now. Depends on how early my brother wants to get up to the course. I'll PM you my contact info and I'd be happy to sell it to you if you aren't able to get a ticket at the expo. Edited by PeteDin206 2012-05-29 12:26 PM |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread The clean transition really isn't that bad.... I just lay things out nearly identical to how I would lay it on the ground, the only difference is that your stuff is in a bag. You should be able to put your helmet on your bike, if that helps. So for me, I'm packing my bag like this:
Then I'd put on my race number first, spray my toes, put on socks then shoes, then put on my helmet and hit the road. Don't over think this, is really fairly simple. You can still set it up like your traditional transition, the only difference is that you are spatially limited to the confines of a bag. IMO, the tricky part is jamming your wetsuit in your bag when you're ready to go.
Edited to add a photo of my run T2 spot from 2010. Hope this helps. Edited by mountain_erin 2012-05-29 1:40 PM |

Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Actually it says during non-wetsuit swims... If you are swimming Boise without a wetsuit, I commend you... Copied from guide: • Compression wear may not be worn DURING non-wetsuit swims, but may be worn upon completion of the swim. Edited by PeteDin206 2012-05-29 2:04 PM |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread The compression deal is for NON-wetsuit swims only. That's because during IMTX last year (which was not wetsuit legal for Kona Qualification) some lovely cheating morons decided to cram flotation devices into their compression gear. Awesome, huh? This will be wetsuit legal and you can wear compression gear. No worries. |

Thanks for posting the picture mountain_erin. Looks like the bags are a realistic size for everything you need to pack in. |

The nice thing is you can have stuff attached to your bike. Last year I had my shoes clipped on the bike and my helmet/glasses hanging from my aerobars. The only difference between that and a normal T1 is I had to stuff my wet suit into a bag.
I'd highly recommend ear plugs for those of you who don't have them yet. It can really make a big difference when you are running through the fairly long uphill T1. |

2 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread This is my 3rd 70.3, but first time in Boise. Very excited to be in Boise, coming from Denver. I have a question for those that have done an afternoon start. What do you differently for nutrition? eat breakfast, than again an hour or so prior to race? Any thoughts/recommendations. It sure will be nice to sleep in (well at least not get up at 4am!) |
