Well, I made it around the mountain. What an experience!

It took about 10 hours and was the hardest running I've done it my life. I think it ended up being between 34-36 miles (there was a reroute of the trail due to erosion) and 6-7k of elevation gain.

Unfortunately I was pretty sick during the run but I decided to do it anyway because I didn't see another opportunity opening up in the near future. So I toughed it out. My heart rate was through the roof on the ascents.

Some of you have seen these but here are a few photos:

I almost feel like I should do a race report to share the adventure. Or maybe just a write-up

Gorgeous!

Speaking of Gorgeous, I'm sorry that you were not 100% for this and I hope that you are feeling better now!

Sadly the run set me back. I took yesterday off from running (which was planned) but I am taking today as well. My symptoms have gotten significantly worse and I am being sent home from work So, I will take as many days off as needed because I don't want to make this any worse.

Followed your run by IG, of course. Beautiful.

Sorry things worsened. Kinda bound to happen with that much exertion while system is already down.  Rest..rest...rest!

I showed the IG pix to DH. He decided we (manatees) are all the same brand of crazy.

He's just now figuring that out?!

Her chest and diaphragm were contracting so hard he was afraid her muscles would give out. So he called an ambulance for a trip to ER. Little body on that big stretcher   Chest x-ray, 5 albuterol doses and a steroid by IV = severe case of croup.  By 8pm she was looking better and smiling. Home around 9:30. T never had croup, and neither had she. Way to scare mom and dad! My stomach is still rolling a bit.

Oh no, poor Mak!  Glad she is feeling better and your stomach can stop rolling!

Ugh - so glad it turned out alright.  Terrifying, though!

Our daughter had a similar ambulance ride from the pediatrician to the ED some years ago for croup, and a two day hospital stay with similar treatment.  All three have had it badly enough that when I hear that croupy cough, I still cringe!

How is she now?  You?

Hey Salty - rest up!  Sounds like an awesome day, and those pics are phenomenal.

As for writing it up, it would be a shame NOT to.  RR or it didn't happen!  (and RR here can be "run report" instead of race, yeh?)

I hope you bounce quickly with the extra rest.  I can imagine you're having trouble NOT running, but you're being smart listening to your body.

Wow, some awesome pics Adrienne and Erin! Sorry you're sick though Adrienne and sorry about the scare with your baby Erin!

Just registered for my first masters swim meet. Going to do 50 free, 50 fly, 50 breast, 100 free & 100 breast. Should be fun.

Ha!  Little does he know....

I'm thinking he'll see it in August. Three of us (plus J who is an unofficial manatee) in one place?! Of course, Pikes Peak is how he started to piece it all together.

How's Mak doing now? I hope she is well again.
Why do these sproglets do these things to us?
We've been going through a togh time with Fin over the last year. He's been diagnosed with Perthes disease and we have been back and forth the physiotherapist frequently trying to address the problems he's facing. Unfortunately, his symptoms are getting worse. He has to see a specialist on Thursday to assess him more, but it looks like he may have to have either surgery on his hip/s or a full hip to ankle double cast. Which will be fun with an active, boisterous 5 year old
I said to Hannah, we should have waited to go to Disney this year rather than last, at least we could have jumped all the queues ( <<).

Huh - I had never heard of Perthes disease and I had to look it up. From what I see the prognosis is good but looks like it's at least a 2 year process. I hope the specialist can help him and he's not in too much pain. And oh yeah, jumping the line at Disney would have been great

To update on Mak:

-whispered all day yesterday...on her own volition

-stayed relatively inactive...not on her own volition

-coughing fits have subsided, breathing fairly normal, voice almost back

-I'm supposed to take her to the urgent care to show the PA she survived. J said he specifically asked we bring her to say hi...guess he was pretty worried too.

-And if a pic says 1000 words...

Wow, crazystupidbusy at work (because I'm the boss this week)

Prayers for Mak and Fin. So heartbreaking when we can't take away what hurts them. It doesn't get any easier when they are 24, just sayin.

And Matt's pix? *whistle* Lookin good!  Someone asked about other races where pix were free. My marathon did that. I think the pix were sponsored by Kaiser (yup the same people sponsoring the bacon run )

This morning I got to watch the setting of a huge moon during my run. At the same time we were hearing the yips of a young coyote. Would've been cool to see the coyote in front of the moon like is pictured in so much SW stuff. Instead I just had to keep the dogs calm and get out of there before the rest of the pack showed up.

Hey Sean, before your HIM did you follow along with the plan and do the three hour ride, 45 minute swim, and 90 minute run over the weekend before your race?  Seems like a pretty big effort for 6-7 days out from the event.

Did you modify your taper at all per the plan?  Whatever you did seemd to work quite well.  Anything you would have done differently from the plan that last week?

Thanks, I'm just entering the crazy zone.

She really, really wanted to get in. I figured the pjs would deter her, but...

I walked across the yard to empty the doggy pool, and when I turned around she was trying to get back in...au natural.   The girl cracks me up.
