I'm doing a small local 5k this Saturday. Pretty sure it won't be a PR, since I haven't been running much and zero speed work, but I will have FUN. And, if no one fast shows up I might even podium.

Ok, you went to Whole Foods and all you can talk about is the beer?  Uhm, did you peruse the organic vegetables? fruits? nut butters? lunch from their salad bar?  I know you live in TX, but still.....

fattyfatfat - 2010-02-03 12:51 PM ok.  i just got the trigger point starter set for now.  footballer and massage ball.  only one running store in the entire city sells it.  odd.

and there was a whole foods next door.  we used to have one close by in new orleans but not in my neck of the woods now.  maybe the novelty has worn off but it just doesn't seem the same.  still a pretty good cold beer selection though.  lots of places have good selections, but out on the shelf, not in the walk in cooler.  and when did fat tire start making 12 packs of cans?

Too many vacations for Suzy...she can't keep track of the day!  Surprised

That is partially true.  Of course, I am working less so who the heck cares what day it is????? In fact, I was just thinking as I was coming back from the pool "how the heck do people train for IM and work a full time job? and have kids?  Lately, I am spoiled rotten.

hehe, I wonder the same thing. My kids are grown, and I don't even have a part time job. My biggest obstacle is staying on schedule while traveling. I've got it pretty easy, guess I better get training.

I've been waiting to write ;-)  So here goes ........................   probably nothing.  LOL

Seriously, I am supposed to race in a 12k on Sat. and could possibly PR on shear base work over the past year even though I have done zippy speedwork since OBX.

However, we are currently nursing 4 in. of wet snow from last night on top of this past weekend's snow and some frickin storm is brewing in Texas and making it's way along the coasts and it supposed to hit us Friday w/ snow into Sat.  So by Sunday AM I could be staring at 2-3' of snow, 2 wild children and a grumpy husband.  AND NO RACE!!!!  plus on Sunday I am supposed to run for an 1 hr. 45min.   Cry  I have come to the point of looking at our local community fitness centers  for drop-in rates / times to get on a treadmill.  UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's been pretty running on the trails in the snow but slipping is a problem and my calfs are very angry at me.

Hey, Steve can you send me some old snowshoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok totally off subject but hey we are a virtual family.  :-)

So anyone have a superb super bowl recipe or seen something interesting to try.  I know we have a recipe acct. but I thought I'd start here!

I actually saw this recipe posted under a Martha Stewart link - I know Martha and Super Bowl food don't seem to mix but hey I might try it.

Baked Corn Dogs ( I was going to make mini ones)
  • 1 1/2 cup(s) all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for dusting sausages
  • 2/3 cup(s) yellow cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
  • 2 teaspoon(s) sugar
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 2/3 cup(s) milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoon(s) vegetable oil
  • 4 (13 ounces total) precooked smoked chicken sausages
  • Ketchup and mustard, for serving (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Make a well in center; add milk, eggs, and oil. Mix just until combined.
  2. Insert an ice-pop stick into one end of each sausage, leaving a 1 1/2-inch handle. Dust with flour; tap off excess. Using handle, rotate each sausage over bowl as you spoon batter to coat evenly. Place on sheet; bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven. Using a spatula, reapply batter that has slipped onto sheet. Return to oven; bake until golden, 20 minutes. Serve with ketchup and mustard, if desired.

I'm racing!  We may have some snow on the ground from Friday but if so, it won't be much.  I'll be doing the last race in the Frostbite Series.  It's a 3-miler.  I guess technically it would be a PR for me since I've never run an actual 3 mile race (closest is usually a 5k).

Sam - I hope you get to do your race on Sunday!

Me thinks by Sunday morning you will be happy to see the TM if given the choice between that and the wild kids and grumpy husband.  Spend sometime downloading a few new songs and enjoy.

On the other hand since my crappy weather will be in VA by this weekend I will get my lazy butt out the door and do a long ride on Sat and Run on Sunday.  Just picked up a Trigger Point kit so I'm hoping to keep the achilles pain to a minimum and do my favorite 6 mile river loop.  Crossing my Fingers!!!

rice wrap.  i'm on my way to 220 for lone star.  even the beer intake is taking an ever so slight hit.   you wanna see a mess.  bring some of those blue berries to the kiddos when you come down.  the entire kitchen will be blue in a matter of minutes.

Ah, finally a chance to sit down and chow on some homemade veggie soup, a turkey sandwich, a chocolate milk and if there are any cookies left, I'll be all over those!

I have a half marathon on Sunday, a revisit of my first one last year...excited to see how it goes...now that I am better at my H20 intake and nutrition, I am looking to finish strong and not sputter along in pain for the last 3 miles, like last year.    P.R. is a pretty sure bet, but by how much???  10 minutes would be awesome!

So last year was 1:48:xx....bring it on!

I also hope you get to race, Sam!

LOL, John, Suzy beat me to it with the spring roll inquiry Glad you made it a fresh one!

Quick question:

Do any of you get super cold at the pool?  I think the pool I've been swimming at is about 78-79 degrees and I am just shivering sometimes even when I am doing 50's with very little rest.  My teacher last night said she noticed I was super tense from the cold last night and said I might want to buy a wetsuit top.  I found this one on line http://www.wetsuitwearhouse.com/page/WW/womens-wetsuit-tops/777-XP117UN-01

Do any of you swim with a rash guard or something like this?  Just wondering...

Awwww, you poor thing!! No body fat to keep you warm. Wish I had that problem. And wish I had cooler pool temps. I think mine was 83+ on Tuesday and it felt like bathwater. Ick. I'll take cold any day! In all seriousness, though, have never tried swimming in a pool with more than just the suit. My answer to cold has always been to keep moving, but it sounds like you were. Good luck! Being cold in the water is a pretty miserable feeling, and once you really get the shivers it can be hard to control them.

Not racing (at least not until April!!) - But I start my training with my coach(s) this week. It won't be an intensive coach just supportive and to help me out with my schedule and times. I think I got a pretty good deal for $250 for 15 weeks of coaching. :-) Is that good?!  I'm not their elite athlete, so I'm not paying premium prices, but I think it's enough for unlimited email access, Training Peaks, set schedule for Sprint Tri and support.

PR - CROSSING my fingers, would be doing 0.95 mi of straight running on Friday!  I know it's not exactly the greatest thing, but when you're training from ZERO, and you see improvement all the time, it's just a nice high. :-P

I normally hate the cold and "feeling" cold. Luckily, my pool temp is set between 80 and 82. Occasionally it does feel a bit chilly, but after I take the cold shower, it's warm.  The Jogging pool is 82-85!!! Surprised

Check with your pool facilities and see what's their requirement of the temp - if it's 80 or 82 - tell them to heat it up!

I was wondering the same thing.....where is my fitness level??????????? perhaps in Mexico?

Seriously, I am still on the bubble about even being able to participate.  I am going to take the two weeks in Hawaii to assess.  The very best scenario would have me doing the swim and bike for pure training and a walk/run. Problem is even that walk/run might be too much.   Sadly, it is possible I will be a DNS.

PR - CROSSING my fingers, would be doing 0.95 mi of straight running on Friday!  It's the GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD to keep IMPROVING!!!!!!!!!! It's just a *SWEEEEEET* high. :-P

there - I *fixed* it. Sorry. My bad...forgive me? {{{hugs}}}

ATTENTION ALL LONESTAR PARTICIPANTS:  11 1/2 WEEKS TO GO - WHERE IS YOUR FITNESS LEVEL????

on track.  ;-)

Honestly, if you have already invested the time, the money (since this is in TX not WI), why not accept DNF?   At least you can have a goal to finish the S/B, including riding on your *sweeet* Red Hot Cherry bike, but "try" the run. Do you think you can make the cut off times?  Other than that, if you can get a refund or maybe some refund from the entry fees, then yeah, I can understand due to physical issues with the run...I don't want you to push yourself too much regardless.

I've heard people just do the DNF because they know they couldn't do the run.  OR OR OR accept a trade, and do a relay instead...you do the S/B, and a running pal can do the run.  Will that work?
