Reno8 - 2010-02-08 8:58 AM Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Mine was somewhat interesting......this is from my blog.

15.97 miles....trying to get 16 under 3 hours...should have paid more attention to where I was running than how fast I was going.  Tripped on a root...reverted to my gymnastics days and tucked for the tuck & roll.....landed on another root shoulder pops out, I tighten up and it goes back in...get up w/ BIG knot on the top of the shoulder joint.....3 hours in the ER = Dislocated A/C joint.  Possibly no running for 3 weeks.  Going to the orthopedist tomorrow and the ER doc talked like he might have to do a surgical reduction on the dislocation.

That's all I got for now as I have some Really Good A$$-Kicking Drugs VERY HIGH QUALITY Pharmaceuticals that I must ingest in order to maintain my sanity.

We Shall See.

Gonna be a good workout day for me...and I am saying this before the fact.

Weather has been pretty crappy here, so my biking has sucked because of it.  The sun broke out this morning, and is still in the 30's, but supposed to get to mid 50's this afternoon.  I called one of my riding buddies and we have a 1:00 ride on the books.  So it will be an 11:30 swim and then the bike.

SCREW WORK!  I think I'll just take most of the day off.

TrevorC - 2010-02-08 7:39 AM Great game last night. Johno must have driven over to Bourbon St after the game, hence his absense this morning.
Being a Pats fan, makes me of course a non-Manning lover.(right?).
There is a guy on ESPN.com that I read all the time from Boston. He talks about the 'Manning Face.' Peyton sure had it after that INT.
What a great win for that city. And being a father-- I think I got a little bit of sand in my eye when Brees had his son i nhis arms and was talking to him with tears in his eyes.. great moment.

Here you go Trevor...

Wow, playing catch up on the posts.  I have hardly been online since leaving for vacation.  Our trip has been great so far.

We started skiing at Loveland last Thursday, was very impressed with the resort.  We did some pretty extreme areas, our second run was a double black, my father in law lost his nearly 30 year old Rosi 205 STS ski going down the run, about 100 yards above where he stopped sliding.  His son and I finally got him on some new skis, Volkl Mantras, they are SWEEET!

We did Vail on Friday, and Keystone Saturday and Sunday.  My legs are fried so today will be a day off.  I have some amazing pictures I hope to post up later today.  We have another 4 days of skiing yet.  Yesterday was quite extreme, 3/4 mile hike at almost 12k feet will beat the daylights out of you.  I was huffing and puffing and I train 8-10 hours a week.  We found some powder at Vail that was around 12 inches deep, and at Keystone, some was knee high and then I sunk down even more, I was in waist deep powder.  That is a whole new feeling.  I may hop out on my snowboard tomorrow, but skiing has been great, getting a bit of snow every day.

Pics to come, but its been a nice break from workouts, but I am surely working my leg strength like crazy.  Great work to all those racers this past weekend!

Happy Monday kids!

Steve: Fingers crossed for you.....

Barry: Cry me a river.... said nicely.  Enjoy your ride outside in the sun.  Its 23F here so will be heading downstairs to the CT (which I really don't mind).

Jeff: How fun!  Sounds like the skiing is great.

Sam/Tony: Are you getting ready for round II of the snowfall.  We are getting 9" tonight and I am guessing it is coming your way.

Quick question for all of you IM'ers.....how long was your training plan?  I am on the IM WI forum and I swear these guys are freaking me out a little. Most started in January....seems kind of crazy and really long....granted I haven't been sitting on my fanny eating bon bons, but I won't be starting my formal training until sometime in March and we all know where I am on the running front.

I will play catch up later...right now I've been so busy with my classes (dangabit! It's really teaching me how to be good at time management!).

However - I would like to promote my student video, it's a bit corny, but whatever. All we care about is the number and exposure, so it'll mean a lot to me if you could check it out. And yes...I'm in it. ;-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA9tjOzLMCA

Oh yeah - I start training from my Support coach this week. This is just for support, to tell me what to do for the week, and stuff, basically he tells me what to do on a daily basis!  He doesn't do analytical stuff, such as VO2, LT, etc etc. or one on one coaching for techniques and stuff. DIRT CHEAP, but totally worth it for 15 weeks.  I have a "RUN TEST" on Wednesday *screams like a girl and hides behind the Moai at my park*.

I had a FABULOUS swim on Saturday! In fact - there was a GUY, who does triathlons, (with massive muscles by the way), in front of me, and I was going *too fast* and had to stop in the middle of the pool to wait for him to go!  Saturday's swim - it pretty much took every drill we learned (Falling Leaf drill, I've starting to realize what's so important about it!!), and it all came together and I took the water like a dolphin *zooooooom*...and oh yeah, NO BREATHING ISSUES!! How awesome is that!?!?!  I can't wait to start doing some speedy swims and see how fast I really am!  I'll miss the Stroke Swim Clinic...it was totally worth the little investment.   Plus - I met one woman that took her 7 years to qualify for the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon...she's doing both this year. Awesome!

PLUS - a friend of mine who is the same size and height (it's hard to find a 5' woman around here!), that will be willing to let me borrow her wetsuit.  She can't do tris anymore due to severe shin splints (which totally sucked).

So yeah, fabulous weekend...except the time where my fiance got locked out for 3 hours (totally NOT my fault..but my friend's who locked the door by accident...left him and Stardust, my dog, out in the street. He went to his neighbor, with my dog. Poor guy. LOL!)

FWIW, mine is roughly 40 weeks leading up to IMFL.  Working with my trainer, I am using a modified version of this plan, and am interspersing a couple races in the interim, with the attendant taper/recovery time.

http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon/ironman-workouts/

I have started it already.

(Note that, although this is the general program I am trying to follow, I have already missed several workouts due to travel.  But I console myself by saying that I have a plan that I am striving for...)

-William

P.S.   I agree with Birdy's comments.  If you look at the plan I reference, the workouts I have already begun are ones in the early build period, and are not as much as you do already.

Suzy--- One thing that you have to keep in mind is "TRAINING."  For several weeks it is building base.  You are already there and well past that.  You have NOTHING to freak out about.  I know youare a planner, but don't be concerned with what others are doing.  Stick to your guns.  If your coaches wanted to start in Jan. They would have started you in Jan....

LOL, yeah we are supposed to get another 6 + inches starting tomorrow night...

Talked to my coach and he said his weekend pretty much looked like mine.  Grand plans to do stuff but all energy went to digging out cars, neighbors cars, neighbors parents cars, etc...

Hey everyone.  Hope you guys had a great weekend.

Trying to play catch up for a week now.  Looks like we had some great races and awesome workouts - except Steve!  Sorry to hear about that.  I dislocated my AC joint playing hockey.  It's no fun, but mine healed quicker than expected.  Hope yours does too.

Suzy, all of the plans I have looked at (six total) are all 20-26 week plans so mine doesn't begin until April for my August race.  As everyone else said, you already have the base.  Don't sweat it.

Well, since nobody wanted my tri bike, I guess I'll just have to keep it.  Actually it has been getting better.  My legs feel much more comfortable, except after making some adjustments to my pedal stroke, I am using much more of my quads than before.  My heels were higher than they should be when pedaling because I was trying to get as far forward on the bike as I could.  This made me use my calves much more than I should have been.  I am hoping this will help my achilles issues too.  Less calf contraction, less strain on the achilles (I hope).  We'll see what happens.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Kim and Lisa ~ congrats on your races this past weekend!  Awesome job to you both!!

Steve ~ Holy shee-ite!  At least you have those fine drugs to keep you "sane" (as you put it!)

Jeff ~ As crazy as this sounds to some of you, reading about your skiing adventures makes me miss snow!  I absolutely loved A-basin when I lived there ~ I think cuz it was so NOT touristy!

DJ ~ That video was friggen hilarious!!

Now I'm going to cry on your shoulders...I have been having issues with my shoulder which come to find out is because my bicep tendon is pinched.  I've tried PT and it was more hassle than it was worth (read: I spent 2 hours stretching on my own until they could come up with something else for me to "try") so I've pretty much just been sucking it up and dealing with it.  However, yesterday I went swimming for the first time all week (which really exacerbates the issue) and now I can hardly move my arm ~ it hurts all the way into my fingers!!!  I've been ODing taking 800mg Motrin as prescribed and I at least have some movement back and can move my arm and fingers without all but crying.  What do I do?  When I look this up on the internet they say ART is the best "medicine" but that's not really an option where I live.  Any suggestions????

So yeah, fabulous weekend...except the time where my fiance got locked out for 3 hours (totally NOT my fault..but my friend's who locked the door by accident...left him and Stardust, my dog, out in the street. He went to his neighbor, with my dog. Poor guy. LOL!)

You have a library card? cause I want to check you out. Nice!!

Great job on the swim as well. Sounds like it is starting to 'click'

Oh no!  I don't have any good solutions other than to see a sports med doctor and get a second opinion on your best option.  You probably need to find a really good PT AND follow the advice of that really good PT.  As someone who has spent 3 months rehabbing sometimes you gotta suck it up and do what they tell you to do even if it is a total pain in the butt.

As a side note, I am not sure a pinched nerve would be better using ART.  I have used ART and Graston for soft tissue  issues related to scar tissue, but never a nerve issue.

Yeah, I was thinking I will be heading back to PT but like you said, I need to find a better one cuz spending 2 hours making up my own stuff just doesn't cut it for me!   That's interesting about the ART...it's a pinched tendon (versus a nerve) so maybe that's the difference??

Steve ~ I gotta tell ya, I'm tempted to get into my hubbies stash of drugs that he has for his many Army injuries! (Not that I would really do that or anything!)
