I did IMFL early in November, then went to visit my parents to help with my Dad's first chemo treatment, recovery so training numbers reflect what the month was final race, transitioning to off season...

November's totals:
Bike:8h 51m 31s  - 132.63 Mi
Run:12h 21m 23s  - 53.49 Mi
Swim:8h 19m 13s  - 18874 Yd
Dog walking:2h 20m
Massage:1h 00m
Walking:1h 35m
Yard Work:3h 30m
Yoga:1h 15m

December I hope to keep running 6x a week and gradually build up volume, work on my swim doing Finding Freestyle program 3-4x a week, and start cycling and will do one cyclocross race. Not sure if I'll start formal bike training until after we get back from Christmas in Minnesota with my parents and siblings. Right now I'm taking a break from coaching but will start back when I feel ready for more structure after first of the year.

kaburns1214 - 2010-11-30 9:03 PM December 1 check-in.  After taking to weeks completely off in October, I'm now well in the middle of Base 1.  Looking at a speed fitness check at the Rehoboth Half Marathon next month and then a 5K in January to wrap up Base 1.  Numbers for November are starting to look respectable again after a sad-looking October.

November's totals:
Bike:27h 31m 15s  - 450.33 Mi
Run:13h 32m 38s  - 85.55 Mi
Swim:6h 29m 52s  - 21800 Yd
Strength:4h 30m
Massage:2h 00m

Dang!  Those are pretty stellar numbers.

You too Kathy!

I won't even post mine.  I've barely gotten back into the swing of things

Wow, huge bike month Kaburns.  Great Job for you too, Kathy.  And I won't comment on the Dog Walking volume

November's totals:

Bike:4h 14m 31s  - 76.67 Mi
Run:14h 04m 02s  - 104.18 Mi
Swim:3h 36m 36s  - 11150 M

Hmmm... I clearly need to work on redistributing some balance by changing my focus from Running to Cycling and Swimming.  This will be my objective in December.

Those were all compu trainer rides.  I'm looking forward to a long winter of riding indoors -- whooo hooo.

I visited my parents when my dad started chemo so I took over walking their dogs. Post IM it is weird not to do s/b/r so nice to move even if it was just with the dogs.

Balance and redistribution for December!

Kelly's consistency & volume since she started with her coach in June is quite impressive. Wondering what her training will be like in April-June?

Happy December!

Congratulations to everyone on their November training. I'm seriously impressed! I was curious where those numbers came from? Are you all using a similar tracking program?

Kathy - Thanks so much for the link you provided about the thread with informaiton about recovery after an IM. Thanks everyone for your help on that subject. I decided to register for the Nations Tri 7 weeks later. I knew I would regret it if I didn't and figure that it is far enough from IMLP to recover and still have some of the fitness left to complete an Olympic. I figured why not since I can walk to the start line!

I felt so motivated after registering that I went ahead and threw my name in the hat for NYC Marathon in 2011 (fingers crossed).

Hope everyone is having a great start to the month! Look forward to continue to see everyone's progress

Ryan

My November is pretty close to my October:
November's totals:
Bike:17h 28m 16s  - 349.78 Mi
Run:12h 38m 23s  - 95.14 Mi
Swim:7h 05m  - 21950 Yd
Strength:3h 55m

Focused less on volume and more on speed, strength, power and technique with enough recovery in between to hit the efforts appropriately and absorb the work.  A little endurance built in and have maintained a base but the longer stuff will come later.  I'm inclined to add another run in there of easy/moderate effort of 5-8 miles but coach says no.

Thanks x3

I actually just looked at the year summary.  I've been pretty lucky (knock on wood) to be healthy for the most part.  Had a good consistent second year of training overall (yes I know one month left) with some focus shifts along the way but pretty good.  I'm a believer in plugging away consistently month after month after month.  Hoping year 3 is a good one.

So one of the LBS was having a ladies only sale today (I'm pretty sure to lose their "intimidating to ladies" image they definately have had in the past)...20% off all stuff. So I got myself some new pedals which were on sale to begin with. Shimano Ultegra for 159 CAD...can't complain. Also bought the Spinervals "On the Road" Lake Placid ride for kicks to entertain myself with this winter!

I've ridden the course 4x, bought the DVD when it first came out and didn't make it through once. The guy is annoying, keeps saying stay on my wheel if I recall right,  the way it is filmed it is hard to put perspective on what the terrain is like and I know the course.

As usual, I found the book better than the movie...

Even though I have never actually ridden the Lake Placid course, I have to agree with KathyG; the video is pretty annoying - and this is from a guy that actually owns a lot of other spinervals DVDs. I used them a good bit 3 winters ago and came into the early spring season a good bit stronger than I had in years past. Not only is the instruction to "get back on my wheel" pretty goofy, the constant switching back and forth from the chase camera and the helmet-mounted "Coach Troy Cam" drove me nuts. All that said, I *think* it has to be at least a little helpful to folks like me that will not have the opportunity to see the course before race week. I read Raymond Britt's "Ironman Lake Placid: Racing Tips and Strategies" a few days before watching the video, and it did help me to visualize a little better the course that Britt described. So, I am glad I watched it after reading the book - not sure I would watch it again though. I would be happy to mail my copy off to anybody that wants it, so long as you promise to do the same for anybody else that wants it after you. Also - this should not be taken as a knock against Spinervals or Troy Jacobson - Like I said, for me they did a lot more than simply help me pass time on the trainer - I highly recommend them if you do have to spend a good bit of time indoors during the cold and rainy bits!

Well I hope I find the Lake Placid Spinverals less annoying! I normally have about 2 different distractors anyways even when watching a Spinverals...I get a little bit too ADD for one solid form of media on the trainer. I normally have the DVD playing with either music or TV/movie on my computer to watch on the side. Sometimes notes...depends on my mood.

We will see how it goes!

Tank Boy I would be happy to take a look at your copy.  If so I would give it back too you or repost on this thread for others to use.  I see your from Alabama.  I am from MS so there is no way I will be able to ride or preview the course.

Right now I am following EN outseason plan.  Hopefully that will translate to some good speed next year.

x2 on the Raymond Britt book.  Easy read and good description of the bike course.

I also like the Computrainer Real Course for IMLP -- gives you a good feel for actually riding the course.

Sure thing PeeWee, - that is so long as you are not a MSU guy - I teach at Auburn and we are not particularly happy with MSU right now...

Although I work in Alabama, I actually live in Atlanta - PM me your address and I will grab the DVD when I am home this weekend and shoot it off to you early next week.
