I am very thankful for Google, and autocorrects While I sometimes share Chris' rant, I usually dislike auto-corrupt when typing. North American English is my native language and, at least when younger, I used to read voraciously. However those programs would likely be very helpful for those to whom English is not native. I do use Google too, though, all the time. I agree with Janyne as well; Marysia speaks far better English than I do Polish! One of my nephews did marry a girl who speaks Polish but I still don't recognize more than a word or two. Good work on what you have done, Robin! I hope your knee recovers well, Ann-Marie. What kinds of distances are you hoping to ride on what kind of terrain? This goes to your geometry, mounts, and dropper post questions. More mounts = longer rides away from resources. General statement is that Aggressive = speed while slack = comfort. That is a big overarching statement, certainly not a hard and fast rule. A dropper can be helpful going down the sketchy or technical stuff. Internal wiring is better (in my pea sized brain). 1x or 2x question can affect wheel clearance and maintenance (I think the maintenance side is BS). I think you'd be surprised how much a 38mm tire will work for most stuff. Ti wins the beauty contest for me. Also wins the weight/function contest. Also wins the $$$ contest. Good looking = more likely to ride. Nothing shallow there. Proprietary stuff is not easily replaced or fixed. I feel the same way about smaller, boutique or custom bike builders, in that it can be harder or more costly to work on the bike. However, some of them make some beautiful stuff. So, here is a sample size of one example. Last week I rode my gravel bike on a nearly 30 mile ride that included dirt, pea gravel, pavement, and grass roads. Single track. Sand, mud, water crossings. I'm running 37mm WTB Riddlers, 700. Never a problem. Well, never is a bit of a stretch, but the only sketch was when I hit a sand pit corner a bit faster than I should. Front end slid, then bit in and caused a momentary bit of steering challenge I have done the same thing on that corner on my 29'r with 2.25 tires. I think it may have more to do with the rider than the tire in this case. Since we're spending your money, I'd suggest a Moots YBB. I'd add in a Lauf front fork for added comfort, if it'll work with the Moots. I guess what I'm really saying is that the options are endless, figuring out what you want/need/can afford seems to be the biggest challenge. |

All good questions and all I can say is I bought my Cervelo bc I liked it Per bike shop the 2x is more useful for what I want to do with the bike- road and gravel, so I went with it. Plus Asperos were really hard to find, so my choices weren’t great! I like the geometry of the Aspero bc I do use it on the road and if I ever get more road like tires it will be my primary road bike. With the gravel riding ive done, the geometry hasn’t been an issue at all. My bike is a dark green with subtle flecks, so it is pretty Thats all I’ve got! |

I also wish I had a knowledge about 99% of this.... but I know what the dropper is Thus, I was wondering, why you would like to have it on the gravel bike? I have never experienced gravel bikes, but I have a dropper on my mtb bike. It is very usefull on downhill when mountain biking, but I have to admit- it's very annoying when you ride and store the bike in temps. under 40-45 degrees. The mechanism either keeps going down by itself or never comes up. I am not as advanced mtb rider, and I use it very rarely, thus, debating if I should just go back with a regular saddle. Why do you think you will need it on gravel? Unless you can ride it on mtb trails with technical downhills? I'm curious Ann-Marie: the dropper post is a thing that makes your saddle go all the way down. So you drop the saddle when you go downhill, and put it back up when uphill - with just a quick push on the button/switch. Sorry, not sure how to better explain it, and just found this much better definition online: "A dropper post, commonly referred to as a dropper, is a replacement for your bicycle's seat post and allows for quick adjustment of saddle height without requiring you to get off your bike or even stop moving." |

With the gravel riding ive done, the geometry hasn’t been an issue at all. My bike is a dark green with subtle flecks, so it is pretty Thats all I’ve got! The guiding principles that I understand of the dropper post are a lower center of gravity and better control of the bike. Kind of one in the same, kind of not. When going downhill on the MTB it is helpful to have your weight back and low. Getting the seat down and out of the way helps you do this, so the dropper comes in handy. Many people feel the same on the gravel bike. Get the seat lower so that you can move your body easier, without getting hung up on the seat. The gravel bike lends itself to being off the seat when hitting the bumpy stuff as well, so I can see that dropping the seat if you are going through some of that might be nice. I don't have a dropper on my mtb, but I do drop my seat when riding in more technical or jumpy/flowy trails. I keep it higher in the smoother stuff that calls for more pedaling. I would have liked a dropper in Mt Dora a couple of weeks ago. The climbs were short, steep, and punchy, but stopping to raise the seat was just not efficient. I had it low for the fun stuff. Gratuitous YouTube video plug, you know, because I want to quit my job to become a Youtube creator. Ha!

I'm curious Ann-Marie: the dropper post is a thing that makes your saddle go all the way down. So you drop the saddle when you go downhill, and put it back up when uphill - with just a quick push on the button/switch. Sorry, not sure how to better explain it, and just found this much better definition online: "A dropper post, commonly referred to as a dropper, is a replacement for your bicycle's seat post and allows for quick adjustment of saddle height without requiring you to get off your bike or even stop moving." Where I would typically ride this bike: Umstead State Forest (bike and bridle trail, Cx bike is sufficient), Duke Forest (mixed terrain), Pisgah National Forest (forest roads, some gnarly). events like Loudoun 1725, Holly Shelter Gravel, etc.
Gravel bikes descend on gravel roads. Just saying! A few folks have pointed out that it might be good to get a bike that will allow for an dropper post in the future. Ann-Marie, it looks like the Aspero does so you are good! I think that it comes with an easton ec70 carbon seatpost and, according to Google, this Easton dropper should work with it https://eastoncycling.com/products/ea70-ax-dropper-post |
