Yeah it said online that the date on the website for pickup, you needed to have your bike there one hour before closing on that day. My day was today so I dropped off yesterday and sure enough I got the email about 5:30 PM that it was on its way to CDA. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread It was sort of that dropping of a shirt at the dry cleaners feeling dropping of my bike. Walk in they make a tag for my stuff, rip of the bottom, and tell me I am done there and have a great race. All in about 1 minutes time. |

Member 6 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I know misery loves company but I find the number of HBs (myself included) who came down with a cold in the past few days distressing. And yes I know I shouldn't care, but the pill cocktail this morning (fish oil, vitamin C, zinc, cold pills) almost came back up after ingestion. I guess I will have to space them out more intelligently. #2041 I will be one of the 497 guys chasing Slayer around the course. Still choosing my profession though: HB therapist or HB wrestler. Haven't figured out how to post a picture yet so no civilian mugshot. Looking forward to meeting people on Friday morning. Bernd |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm in for dinner Wednesday and the swim TH & FRI. I've got a HB picture all laminated and ready for our meet-ups so if you get lost just look for the vicious HB For me TH/FRI I eat fairly normal foods and always have a bottle of GU20 with me as well as a bag of Vanilla Wafers and Wheat Thins in case I need a snack. Pre-race dinner is unusual for most but I swear my Cheese Ravioli. I've eaten them before every major race and they work awesome for me. Still fighting whatever I have. Will probably make today a 2nd rest day with some easy walking around and then do a short brick tomorrow (90 min bike/30 min run) if I'm feeling better. Weather forecast is improving and just to prove how much it's changing I'm tracking it daily so you can see the changes. Yesterday the race day forecast was 75/49 with a 30% chance of showers. Today it's 72/47 with a 10% chance. It will change every day until race day cause that's just how neurotic CDA weather is. Taper and Travel safe people! |

New user 42 Louisville, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread NO confirmation email yet from TBT. Something nice to worry on while I do a spin at the Y. Lightning in area has cancelled the OWS I planned to do this AM with local club. Flying in Thursday AM, hopefully in CDA by noon. Then plan is to register, check out expo, go for short ride to check bike status. Anyone wants to catch dinner Thursday night I'm up for it. Resident of the Eastern time zone, so probably in bed early, hoping to meet a bunch of you at the swim on Fri. |

I give you all a good head start during the swim and see what I can do after that to slay you. Most likely, if you are a HB wrestler, you stand a better chance at survival. Really looking forward to the meet up swims and I will shoot for the Friday pre-athete-dinner too. I wish we could hit Capones due to their awesome beer list but they seem really busy when I called the other day. A group as big as us may have to let the folks know in advance we are coming to have drinks so there is some space. HBDC |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread from my blog (wanted you all to get a look at a chart from training peaks that has changed my life to a certain degree): Mrs. Slayer doesn't like the taper for some reason. Thankfully I will do some working out today which may take the edge off. Feeling my racing form (yellow line - 30ish is desirable on race day) coming back with some of this rest, but worrying about losing some more long term fitness (blue), so I must add some training (daily workout stress- red line- back until midweek). Maybe cause your a clyde but I knew I liked you. I love getting a few beers before the race.....and a lot of them after Funny story, in IMAZ 08 my wife was pregnant so I brought a friend along with to make sure I didn't come home in a box and we went out to a piano bar on the Friday night after the pre-race dinner. HE had to throw in the towel at Round 9 of beers and he wasn't even doing the race. Woke up the next day good to go and had a couple of beers with lunch. Honey Badger don't want to hear about no hangover, I think he shotguns beers 3 at a time. Edited by Shermbelle 2011-06-18 7:59 AM |

Not trying to belittle myself here AT ALL, just stating my reality: I swim fast and my riding isn't quite as strong as my swimming. As a result, lots of people will get a chance to see me on the bike as they zoom by! Give a shout-out hello!!! Green Scott Plasma bike, my number/name should be visible from my back side!! Getting passed by so many cyclists used to be a real mental mind-#&$ for me, but I've now embraced it and would just love to say hi to peeps (encouragement is always welcome too)!!! |

Extreme Veteran 494 Olympia, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hmm, I don't know, 24 pages to go and with lots of folks traveling this week, that elusive 200-page total could be tough. There will have to be a lot of posting this weekend. Just sayin'. Anyway, as an IM newbie, I have some gear bag questions. I understand from the athletes guide the various bags we get, T1, special needs, etc. when we check in. What I didn't see - or maybe I missed it - is when do we give the full bags to whoever needs them so they are there at T1, etc. Do you do that on race morning, the day before, or what? In other words, when do you turn that stuff in? The athlete's guide and several people have said we "may not" get our special needs bags back. Why is that? What's the procedure if we do want those back? I have plenty of things I can put in there that are no big deal if I don't get them back, but I would still get them back if I could. Thanks! Brad

Brad For the bags, when you do bike check in on Saturday you will also take your Bike/Run (T1/T2) bags with you (you typically do have a chance to get into them race morning, but try to make them as complete as possible). On race morning, you will take your Bike/Run Special Needs bags to a drop off point that should be right behind the swim start area on the sidewalk. You will have access to your bike on race morning to air up tires, place nutrition, cycling computers, etc. Do not leave food on your bike overnight--the squirrels will enjoy it before you get to do so! Put that stuff on there race morning! You will be able to pick up your T1/T2 bags after the race when you get your bike. For your special needs bags, they will (or have in the past at CdA when I've watched and also at AZ) boxes with all of them tossed in over in the park near the expo area/transition area. At that point, it's a free for all to find yours. So, that's why the cautions of "you may not get it back." |

If they do it like IMFL, then you will drop off T1 and T2 bags off with bike. You will have access to them on race day though prior to swim start. Can Add cold drinks, turn on Garmin, etc. I would highly recommend tying a ribbon or something distinctive to bags. I spent a good couple of minutes rifling through the piles looking for my bag. Volunteers supposed to do that for you, but they were swamped by time I got there, and I did a 1:01 swim. The special needs bag will be dropped morning of the race. When I went to get my bags back the next day, the bags were just piled in a series of large cardboxes that had to sorted through. The boxes were labeled by race number (0-500), (501-1000), etc which is which where your bag is supposed to be. Some of the bags were in the wrong box. Some of the bags were ripped open. Some of the bags just weren't there.
So, word to the wise, don't put anything in special needs that you couldn't live without out. |
