GrapeJuice - 2011-07-09 10:44 PM Does anyone else have a set pre race routine or tradition? Something that they always do before the race? Even though I am new to the sport and racing I realized I get into my "Zone" by wearing my WhiteSox hat (I am a Mets fan) and listening to music in my huge headphones and I plan on doing the same thing for every race.

I don't really do anything specific, but I probably should, though these days my pre-race routine is getting to the race site 5 minutes before the race starts and running around trying to get everything ready.

Ha ha, I'm the opposite. I like to be one of the first to arrive so I can get a good parking place, set up in transition without rushing, and then sit back to relax and enjoy the race scene. If I'm parked close enough I'll sit in my car and listen to music. I love that pre-race time.

I'm just like you.  I like to get there early, set up and have time to OWS.

I have a long, but similar race routine regardless of the importance of the race. It always meansgetting up at least three hours before the start of the race, sometimes more if I have a long drive, drink coffee while checking weather, BT and FB, do bathroom stuff and then have the same breakfast before hitting the road.  I don't have any good luck charms, but I do say a prayer before I hit the start.

RR is up. I PR'd by 4:17! Bike was identical to the second to 2 years ago. The swim was about 4 minutes faster. Happy with the result. Just wish I had the normal zip in my legs. Next race is 3 weeks from now in Florida!

Mostly done.  Have some tweaks to make and these aren't my race wheels, have a set of tubulars I need to glue up.  It's my Cyclocross bike.

Congrats Doug... Way to go.... WOO HOO....

I haven't been around much I have totally slacked since my triathlon 3 weeks ago. But I am back in the game now. I started my HM training on Saturday with a group. Training for my first HM plan is to do the Detroit Free Press run.

And yesterday I dropped the hammer by doing TRX in the morning, then a 50km bike ride then a 6k run last night. I have not worked that hard in about a month... I feel sore and GREAT today.

I hope everyone is doing well. Going to take some time to try and catch up on everyone today.

Just looked small. Really, I was just trying to get a reaction from you.. I should have used red font. That's pretty cool though building your own bike.

Between Sam and I, if we had to take our bikes in for every thing that needed to be done to them, I couldn't afford to buy new parts for anything.  It's been pretty fun putting these together and working on them.

Back from a week "out bush", lots of running and mountain biking.

Well done Julia and Doug! I'm thinking about doing a HIM in December, just read Don Fink's IronFit book whilst I was away and might follow his plan up to the point where you do a HIM as preparation for a full IM, I like his schedule, seems to fit in with my lifestyle well.

My knees are aching++ after a few very hilly MTB rides which is a bit worrying considering I've got my HM on Sunday, I'm not sure whether to miss tomorrows scheduled 50min easy pace run or not??

Anyway, looking forward to cutting back on the running from next week for a while.

So here is my Race Report from the Mossman Sprint this Sunday. Tuffli did this one as well but I wasn't able to meet up with him. My swim was the worse I have ever done and I am so ashamed of it. It did however allow me to be able to rededicate my self to swimming and I will swim 4-5 times a week until the NYC tri!

Great report man. did my first sprint not too long ago and I had a horrible swim that set me up for a bunch of issues later too. And running was not my strong point so I didn't make up any ground there. But hey it is all a great learning experiance. Good job man on getting it done. And Thanks for doing a race report...

Hi all!!! remember me?? Sorry for being M.I.A... transitioning back to the US and the new job has taken over all of my time!!! I even had to cut down my training!!! ugh!  Hope all is well with you all.  Looks like some great racing going on for everyone. Congrats!!

Andre - Awesome job on the race, even with a tough swim.  I'm in awe of your run split!  Let's make sure to connect at the NYC Tri.

Here's my race report...

I hope to check in a bit more now that things are settling down..

Not bad GrapeJuice.  Your running pace is great and I would take your bike pace too.  Swimming (at least in my limited experience) takes time.   Hitting the pool 4-5 times/week is the right approach.   Get a little coaching too.

David - Sounds like a great week! Do you have a soft flat trail you can run on for your 50 min run? I'd avoid pavement and hills, or just substitute a bike or swim.

Andre - Congratulations on your race! You must have passed a zillion people with that run! Keep at the swimming - it will get better.

Tuffli - Great to see you back, and thanks for bringing a race report with you. Congratulations on a great race!

Thanks guys(and gals) for all the encouragement and positive words, this is one of the reasons I love this MG, my Tri Club, and the triathlete community in general. It means a lot since my main and usual social circle cant really understand what we go through and how we feel

100k!!! are you crazy.  Nope not me.  But I did get my acceptance scrap of paper for the JKF 50.  Should be interesting.

Linda - I sure hope you are there at the finish line again.  I think I'll need some mental motivation towards the end.

So I guess I'll be hitting the miles again soon.  Sure hope it doesn't snow!
