SSMinnow - 2010-06-04 12:40 PM The weather in Minocqua is the pits, it's been pouring rain all morning long, strong winds and it is COLD, 55F.  Of course, I am supposed to do an hour OWS today....anyone feel sorry for me yet?  Told myself by 1:30 CST I would get my rear end down to the pier and actually in the water.  It is really rough so it would be ideal practice heading into my HIM which tends to have 4 footers because of how shallow it is.  Zero boats out today so the liklihood of becoming fodder for the propeller is very low.

All this talk about technology, reminds me how much I hate my 310XT.  It is going back to Garmin for repair/replacement.  Never been so disappointed in a piece of tri equipment, ooops except my tri bike.Yell

Good luck to our racers.  There are so many of you that I ame excited to hear all the details.  Hurry back and give us the scoop!

PS PT users, what do you have your smoothing set to?

Love you, Suzy... but HTFU and get thee to the lake. It was 46 degrees and pouring rain when I swam this morning. And my LAKE was 56 degrees. Something tells me your lake is warmer???!! We did not have winds this morning, so I will give you that. Get on it, girlfriend!!!!!!!!!

Nice!  You make me laugh...

I can only do smoothing in the software, I think that is something new with the Joule.

All I can do is change the interval in which I record, I belive everyone says you should do 1 second.

Terps421 - 2010-06-04 7:40 AM How often do you clean your bike chains?  What do you use? And do you ever replace the chain? Thanks!
Linda

A Tony I am not. I clean my chain about once every 3/4 weeks and I have never changed the chain. then again I have a bike that was made when quality was job one

Sorry Red, but Tony is right on this one. This has been true for decades regardless of when your bike was made or who made it. If you ride it regularly you should replace the chain about once a year. Chains stretch and get worn. Remember it is the main means for transfering all those Watts you are generating.

what are you thoughts on a good chain?  brand, model etc...  edit because it seems i should be replacing mine.  and cleaning it more!

Dura-Ace Chain, I normally get them from Probikekit.com but they seem to be out of them at the moment. This place has them for a similar price

http://thebikesmiths.com/j/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=17flypage=flypage.tpl&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=59&product_id=39&vmcchk=1&Itemid=59

While your at it have you changed your cables and housing?  Should do that every year or so also, will help you shift/brake much easier if you change them often.

i changed mine a month prior to LS.  but now my front brake is screwed up. when i hit the brake it works but won't open back up. so i have to reach down and open it by hand.  and the cable seems to be stuck in the lever that opens up the brake to make the wheel come off easier.  i'll post vid this weekend to show you bike peeps what i'm talking about.

Re-read this - problem with the brakes is most likely dirty cable housing - replace the cable and the housing and I bet it works like new...

That was what I was going to say as well.

gdale - 2010-06-04 10:57 AM Just a little braggin on my wife Kristine.  She ran in the Chase Corporate Challenge last night and her team took 4th place out of 132 teams (in the women's field)!!  She finished in 26:37 (3.5 mile race)...slightly off her goal pace but she was happy with the results.  It was also the first time that our company (Corning) has fielded a woman's team in the top 5.  Hopefully she is just as successful in her first tri on Sunday!

Our company also won the mixed team event qualifing the team members to travel to Singapore next spring for the championship.  The overall women's winner was also from Corning.   Pretty cool.

Brag over.

Awesome, George!  Yes, do you get to go to Singapore??? That would just be incredible

Yeah I know when to change cables when I shift and the end of the cable pops out of the shifter.  LOL, I am at that point now but have been lazy so I just keep my finger over the cable end when I shift so it moves...

gdale - 2010-06-04 1:57 PM Just a little braggin on my wife Kristine.

VERY cool.  Are you or your wife on your company's mixed team?  So is a trip to Singapore in your future?  Congrats to her.

No, unfortunately neither of us was on the mixed team so we won't be heading to Singapore.  Now re-reading my post I guess I extended my brag to other runners from my company, not just my wife.   I didn't run in the race and it is safe to say that my time would have been no where near enough to be on a winning team.  The only thing she gets for forth place is some positive feelings of accomplishment...and a beer from John!

HTFU I did!!  Kyla you are right...I need to take every frickin day at the Lake and use it as a HUGE opportunity.  It wasn't bad at all (water was probably 65ish) and once you're wet who cares if it is raining. It gave me a chance to figure out a breathing style that would work when the waves were coming from a certain direction. It didnt work all the time, but it got easier the longer I went.  I thought of Dino a couple of times (he'll know why) and I ran into several of my brethren, but didn't swallow any this time.  Fish must come closer to shore when it is rainy and cold because I saw several honkers below me, but didn't pull a Barry and put bait on my rear end.  Told Paul that story and he thought Barry might have a screw loose.  Fish in these parts could pull him a long darn way.

So crazy!! Trevor, that is an awesome picture. What a treat!! I hope you frame it and hang it proudly!

OMG... I am not complaining or wimping out, just reporting facts... My race tomorrow is going to be a MUDFEST. Seriously, I anticipate some interesting finish photos. I *thought* the weather was to clear up this afternoon, so was looking forward to a dry race. Around 4pm the skies opened up again and have not let up. At 2:30pm when I was picking up my race packet (back when it hadn't rained for a few hours!), the transition area (grass) already had about 1 inch of standing water and LOTS of mud. It is only going to get worse. The run take place largely on grass -- it's sort-of cross-countryish -- I seriously am going to wear trail shoes for this race. Was hoping the roads would be dry for the bike, but maybe not so much.

Right now I'm wondering WTF I am going to wear. I was all set to wear just a tri top and tri shorts, even if it's chilly I figured I can suck it up. So interesting. And I really don't wanna wear toe covers on my shoes as that takes up transition time, but I'm a bit worried about running on super-duper freezing-cold stumps (I will likely opt to wear socks).

Too funny. If you could see the rain right now (Steve, Ryan, you out there?? Ever done Issaquah/Lake Sammamish? Do you hear what I'm sayin' here??!!)!!!

Trevor--totally love the photo.  I agree with Twin those girls look like they are having a ball.

Me, had a great dinner and on the way home saw an enormous black bear standing on the side of the road.  Very cool.  There are many up here, but rarely do you get to see one so close....

kt65 - 2010-06-04 8:36 PM Trevor, that is so cool!  Your girls look like they are really enjoying running with their daddy!  And getting to wear cute hats.  It is crazy that it is 97F in John's neck of the woods and snowing in yours!

I say white tri-suit  - we will need pics for proof....  Oh yeah - gotta do the body slide across the finish line if it is on wet grass or mud...

Kyla--whatever you do, protect the knee will ya?  This race is nothing compared to your IM, right?

Trevor--totally love the photo.  I agree with Twin those girls look like they are having a ball.

Me, had a great dinner and on the way home saw an enormous black bear standing on the side of the road.  Very cool.  There are many up here, but rarely do you get to see one so close....

Totally not doing anything to hurt the knee. Promise. One twinge and I'm done.
