First HIM Yea!!!!!

Can't wait to go back and read the messages. Need food and water first

My swim was great, could have gone harder but I held back. I was 4 minutes faster than I had planned. The bike course kicked my . The winds were bad crosswinds first 28 and then shifted to headwinds last 28. Even the Pro's were 2-3 mph slower than they had hoped. I started at my ideal pace on the run but got way over heated. Finally after getting some ice I cooled down and ran pretty well until mile 8. The last 4 miles I stopped and walked through the aid stations to try and cool down. Had so much fun!!

First 1.2 mile open water swim ever

First 56 mile bike ride ever

First 13.1 mile run ever

And I did them back to back after 3 months of IT Band Pain. I'm thrilled!!!

and no IT Band Issues on the run!!!

All of it is sooo good to hear! AND it's like four PRs in one...Woohoo! :D

And she had the obligatory post race beer as well.

Great job! She is so pretty and young! Nice pictures.

You are all too kind, thanks.  We have figured out that I photograph older then my 46 years and she photos younger than her 44 years. It is sometimes funny when people first meet us and figure out we are together.  She said thank you to everyone as well.

HM race report!  Will post pictures soon.

I had a good run, and I know I can do better.  I ran 1:49.05, which is close-ish to my goal of 1:44, and under 1:50, which is awesome.

Ahem, done in a NEON flash.  Hey, first place had the same color shoes, and I believe second place had the same model and color.  Just sayin'.

Congratulations!

Short update of my 10k.

Horrible nights sleep (again) then woke up tired, late and rushing to get sorted before my hour's drive to get to registration. Then had to walk my wife and daughter to the finish line before heading back to the star line (about 4k walk).

Didn't hydrate properly, missed breakfast and managed a quarter flapjack whilst driving to event.

Finally got running and was looking for excuses to walk by 3k. Everyone was passing me. Breathing was shocking, no rythm, soooo pleased to see the water station at 5.5k which i took as my only walking opprtunity for about 15 secs. By 7k i began to settle and actually pushed really hard for the last 500m.

Finally crossed the finish line 47 secs faster than last year, but could have been so much better. Tough race in near perfect conditions. Dont know whether to be happy about the small improvement or gutted that it could have been so much betterUndecided

Congratulations! You had some tough personal conditions and still got a PR

FANTASTIC JOBS BY THE RACING MANATEES TODAY!!!!

I just got home a little while ago, after a crazy, short-staffed, carnivore-y day at work...so  I had been unable to check in until now---Congrats Jonathan on your first HIM! Froggy--way to overcome the issues for a new PR--regardless of how you felt and raced, you were still SO much faster than if you hadn't raced at all, right? Foxy--way to rock a neon HM! Ann-Marie--I feel your pain re. wetsuit issues--but you fought through it and completed your race--pure awesome-ness in my book!

I know there were more manatees on the move, but these were the ones I saw the results for--I am betting everyone else was awash in awesome-ness as well Cool

As for me, BUSY freakin' day---3 keepers out "sick", 1 keeper at a conference, and 1 keeper on vacation....this meant I was the sole keeper for carnivore land. I did finally get to see this little monster up close and personal--its Sumatran Tiger cub C.J. with his mom, Bahagia.

Super cute and finally getting his legs underneath him (but still a bit sprawl-y)

Of course I also got to deal with our seriously STUBBORN red pandas too--half are on meds (old age is a b*tch when you're a red panda)

Jane--one of the older pandas...

--and of course they do NOT want to take the meds--even in treats! The other ones are just crazy-suspicious and young, so its hard to get them to lock up on or off exhibit for cleaning...eeesh...zookeeper problems....

Apart from recalcitrant pandas, it was a delightful, busy day. I am now decompressing with an amazing rib-eye steak, brown rice, broccoli, and a beer (or two).... Happy Kate....although I am kind of feeling race envy right now...my next one isn't til the 20th.

Soooo, today I was "cleaning up" the shoe pile that accumulates near the front door. Here's what I got organized. Yikes! Surprised The six pairs on top are the ones I rotate through...although my first pair of Frees is about shot and the Reeboks are far from my favorites. Got me wondering, Anyone else have a fun shoe stash?
