Well, I did my race yesterday ~ sorry I'm slow in posting Tracy and I am thrilled to report that I beat last years time by almost 3 mins!  I finished the 8.12 miles in 1:13 and couldn't be happier as this is the first race (longer than a 5K) that i've maintained a 9mm pace!!!  Now I need to start focusing on my swimming so I can actually improve those times!

That is soooooooo fabulous. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Any time you have a milestone (no pun intended, ha ha) by completing a race at a record pace is so awesome. Yay for you!!! Way to go!

kt65 - 2010-02-16 4:53 PMGreat job, Michelle!

All of this talk about sighting is making my stomach do flip flops.  6 weeks out to my race and I haven't been in open water since Vineman (JULY!!!).  It's soooo cold in the bay right now!  John, Kyla...come to SF and swim at Aquatic Park with me!  Please!
Spot me a plane ticket and some childcare and I am soooooo there, girlfriend!! I never did OWS when I lived in the Bay Area. Oh, but the yards I logged in the pool at De Anza College in Cupertino in my youth... back and forth and back and forth...

Well, today I had to go to work a little earlier than normal, soooooo I decided to do a Swim time trial instead of my normal sets.  The results....  500yds=8:25.  This is the first time I actually started to push a little harder in the water.

I apologize for not keeping current on the boards, between work, school, training, and family time, I am not responding like I should.  Thank you for the inspires, and I will try to do better

Well I had a fair night at the pool, did a 150 swim/fist/swim/fist warmup and then a ladder starting at 275 subtracting 25 each after that.  My 100 time during this set was 1:34, I was huffing and puffing and my form was really stretched from some time off swimming, but I was pretty happy with that time.

Going to take it easy tonight and hope to get up for a bike ride in the morning or possibly a run, see what the day brings.

Gotta share....I am out for my Tues evening base run on what I call my "dark" route which is a paved trail through the county park system along the Menomonee River.  I come around this corner and actually had to stop because I almost run into a young buck and two does standing in my route.  They don't move, they just stare at me for what seemed like 5 minutes (I am sure it was maybe 15 seconds).  I was actually starting to think the buck was going to charge me, he was only 5 feet away.  I think the blinking light I wear at night kind of "shined" them a little.  Oh and for those you down south...we grow big deer up here.

Then, they just slowly turn away and bound off into the woods.  It makes me realize how cool it is to run outside and to run without an ipod.  That was just cool!  Never would have had that happen on the treadmill.

X2 Dino, that is just...awesome.

John, I think the childcare would be harder than the plane ticket!!!!  you too, Kyla...well, I suppose I should just suck it up and go out with Pedro's WW or some other group that meets on Sundays...these guys are just so crazy, though, some don't even wear a wetsuit.

Well I hate to write for fear of more snow but I do have a 12k on the race schedule for Sat.  Last year's time was 1:06:01 so I'd like to beat it but who knows w/ the trail conditions and I'm not in my fastest running shape right now.

So I'll go w/ a goal of getting to the start line!

Morning everyone.  I am about to head out for a five miler this morning, but am a little concerned.  As some of you may know, I dealt with Achilles Tendinitis pretty bad last year and so to combat this, I have been stretching quite often.  I am afraid I have taken it too far.  At times, I have a pretty intense pain on the inside ankle bone and fear I may have pushed the joint a little too far.  I'm going to see how it goes today and if there are any sharp pains, I'm heading to see my sports doc on Monday.  I am also changing running stores.  I really don't like my shoes and the owner has pushed them on me twice now.  She is 4'8" and weighs about 80 lbs and only wears the ones she sold me.  I don't think there is enough cushion for me which I think may be contributing to my joint pain too.

If it's only a nagging pain, do you think I should just quit running for a few weeks and see what happens?  I am totally afraid to go to the doc because he's going to tell me not to run for a few months.  My IM training begins the second week in April with a 50 min run in the first week.  I am just trying to maintain a base right now to begin my training.

Seems to me that you should figure out the problem now than to start IM training w/ nagging pain only to get a month or 2 in and have to bag the IM.  Since this is your "off-season" get healthy and be ready for April.

HI Gang. Just a quick touch before I head out today. I took a couple of days off this week to cathc some of the OLympics. Good tv but too much time spent on my butt the past few days. Anyway last night I had a PB. We did a time trial at the swim class. Did 1000m in 18.10. that's almost 4 minutes off my previous TT about a month ago.

And I should have checked the website before answering this post b/c the race has already been postponed AGAIN!!!!!!!!  ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

So I am going to do my own 12k race!  Take that snow!!!!  Now I just have to map out a traffic free, snow free route.  That will be a challenge.  At least the weather is supposed to get into the low to mid 40s by Friday and stay through the weekend.

x2...a nagging pain could turn into a serious injury pretty quickly once you start ramping up the volume.  Missing a few weeks of base now will be nothing compared to missing key traning weeks in your plan.
