X2 (or maybe like 5 or 6 counting everyone else) Sorry about this weekend!  Stuff like this happens to everyone!  Just look forward to the next one (and double check the dates Smile)

KeriKadi - 2010-05-29 1:15 PM
loeber - 2010-05-29 8:31 AMSo I'm an idiot. I had the wrong date down for my Tri this weekend. Race starts in 36 minutes, my clothes are still in the wash, and the start line is 130 miles away... Given the amount of SNOW on the ground right now there is no way to make it. Don't know why I had it in my head that this race was on Sunday, all of my others this year are Sunday races. Feeling about 6" tall right now. I would not have even noticed the date if I hadn't checked for wave times this morning. FrownCry dumb...

Dude, Dan, that sucks, I am so sorry.  I can totally see us doing this with everything we have going on, I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened already.
Focus on the next one!

Thanks for the comments, I talked to my Aunt who I was going to stay with and she said the weather is even worst there than here. 4" of slushy snow on the shoulders of the roads. puddles where there is no snow and freezing rain. kinda makes me glad I messed up the dates. I did get to take my oldest to swim lessons and go for a nice "10km punishment" runon the treadmill while he swam, we got changed and I went a signed up for a same distance race on July 18th but it is a lake swim that I hadn't planned on this year.

Makin' lemonade I guess.

Man, talk about pressure.  Went to packet pick up today and we don't get our t-shirt until the finish line.  Never had that before.  Finish or else.  I love how they say no packet without photo id no exceptions and yet they never ask for photo id.

But anywys, the packet pickup and pre-race meeting was at Trisports (as in Trisports.com), so I ended up upstairs.  That place is HUGE.  Lots of nice stuff up there just waiting to be shipped to your homes.  Also some nice bikes sitting in the racks just waiting to be brought home by me.   Since I was there I finally broke down and scheduled a fit for my bike.  To be done Tuesday....after my first race of course.

It's May 31st and I am 2 1/2 Mikes Lemonades to the wind so I might as well post May's totals.

May's totals:
Bike:7h 57m 04s  - 105.39 Mi
Run:5h 45m 11s  - 28.04 Mi
Swim:2h 54m 57s  - 7468.5 Yd
Strength:20m
Ballet:1h 35m
Stretching:40m
Whitewater Rafting:4h 00m

Bike looks good, though the last 2 days helped for sure!  Run is better, need to add some time in the water.

Quiet day... Here are my totals for May.  Definitely need to pick up the running.  I think I'm gonna do the Midnight Flight 10k in September so that should be great motivation to go run, not to mention James is gonna start running with me and he's always a great running buddy.  Still have to figure out what to do about swimming.  It's looking like its gonna have to be on Saturday and Sunday.  I want to ramp up my biking next month too.

May's totals:
Bike:4h 30m 19s  - 54.39 Mi
Run:2h 56m 04s  - 13.2 Mi
Swim:2h 59m 37s  - 5050 M
Strength:3h 00m

April's totals:
Bike:3h 26m  - 28.78 Mi
Run:2h 14m 40s  - 10.31 Mi
Swim:5h 20m  - 8900 M
Strength:3h 45m
Hiking:30m
Stationary Biking:45m
Stretching:10m
Walking:1h 00m

Very happy with my May numbers, since it included my HIM recovery. Goal for May was to work on base for bike and running, stay healthy and have fun training with out a real "purpose".  I'm finally at the point where I can run 6 miles 3x a week and only need minimal recovery.

May's totals:
Bike:21h 44m 27s  - 406.82 Mi
Run:9h 57m 12s  - 67.44 Mi
Swim:1h 13m  - 3300 Yd

Plan for June (until June 21st, start HIM training again) is to continue to increase bike and run volume, and once June 21st roles around start HIM training from scratch. Since initially my bike and run volume will be low I've increased my swimming to 4 times a week.

April
Bike - 7h 52m - 147.28 mi
Run - 12h 24m - 84.01 mi
Swim 5h 30m - 7450

May
Bike - 12h 57m - 232.3 mi
Run - 6h 59m - 45.64 mi
swim - 6h 58m - 15,700

Obviously, the bike is getting closer to where it belongs and the run suffered due to all the dang drowning (swimming) I needed to do to get ready for my first tri.  We have backed it down to less days swimming and more days running for June.  I am even planning on getting on the trainer during the week to get a second bike in.  Considering we went on vacation in May, June should be a solid month. I do have a road trip that is going to get in the way a bit.

Here's my numbers for May.  I'm pretty happy with them, especially given that I was sick for the first part of the month.  I got more long bike rides in, but would have liked more.  I'm pretty happy with my swim.

May's totals:
Bike:19h 19m 42s  - 289 Mi
Run:10h 29m 15s  - 64.72 Mi
Swim:8h 46m 01s  - 20193.61 Yd

My only goal for June is to make it through healthy and have a good HIM.  I've got a taper in there so I imagine my numbers might end up being near the same as May's, although I am not sure how much I'll taper since I've been recovering pretty quickly right now.

It appears that I could have accomplished as much sitting on the couch, compared to some numbers here. I missed a couple of strength and hill runs workouts, but still.... need improvment.

Race report finally up.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=210671  As per usual I'm MOP.  Darn swim.    Still pretty happy with my results overall, but would have loved to have had T1 and T2 times.  I miss chip timing...

Shifting from the HIM mindset to the sprint mindset...really have to take the numbers in perspective. However, I really should be biking and running more. "Summer" starts for me on Monday, so after Sunday's race and some rest on Monday, I will have no excuses but to get out there and start racking up the mileage!

May's totals:
Bike:7h 08m 21s  - 99.51 Mi
Run:5h 33m 38s  - 27.04 Mi
Swim:3h 50m 31s  - 13100 Yd
Strength:4h 15m
Yoga:1h 40m

April's totals:
Bike:9h 56m 44s  - 138.69 Mi
Run:10h 30m 26s  - 49.96 Mi
Swim:5h 28m 08s  - 18537 Yd

Run:5h 47m 03s  - 35.98 Mi
Swim:8h 49m 01s  - 24123.13 Yd

I'd like to have more volume, but considering where I was a month ago, and that I wasn't fully back to training until about mid-May, I'll take it.  I'm back in working order & thrilled!

Goals for June...get back into my training plan & stay consistent, re-build endurance & speed on the run, weekend long rides, & start thinking about nutrition.

I went in for a bike fit at 4PM.  Didn't get out until near 6:30PM.  WHAT?  Barely anything changed on the bike.  Little cleat modification.  But now I have these pointy things coming out of my handlebars.  Not sure how they got there.  Got two weeks to get use to them before I have to take the bike apart and ship it.  Piece of cake.  It actually feels pretty natural.  Now I just need a pointy helmet (although I don't see me actually going there)

I'm in complete shock right now.  Just found out that a girl named Samantha who lived next door to me freshmen year passed away yesterday.  Apparently she got an autoimmune disease and got bleeding around her brain and her brain swelled.  We hung out a good bit freshmen year but had drifted apart by the end of the year and I saw her a couple times this year but it was just little quick "hey how are you" kind of conversations.  I know everyone says it but Life's too short... you never know what's gonna happen or what tomorrow's going to hold for you.  All day I've been complaining to James about little stupid things... her death really puts things in perspective.  You never expect this sort of thing to happen to someone so young.  Remember to treasure every moment in life, never take life for granted and know that things could always be worse. Heard someone on the radio yesterday that say tomorrow is a gift not a right... this means so much more to me now than it did yesterday.  Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.  I can't imagine what they are going through right now.

I had to read this three times before I realized you were probably talking about aerobars.

I'm not even going to say what I was thinking at first... it's just way too wrong.

That said, I'm issuing you the same warning I do to everyone who first gets aerobars.  Be careful, especially turning or curving at first.  A tiny movement in aero is a big one.

And I swear, I don't warn everyone about that because I went careening off a bike path, down a rocky grade and into a leech infested pond on my first trip out with aerobars or anything.  Nope, never happened (but only because no one was with me to take a photo).

Whoo hoo hope everyone else had a great holiday. I am still off and actually off all week. I am off because one of my twins had a small surgery on his foot. All is good with him and this has been his easiest surgery to date. This was #10. All for various reason but he has never had the best luck.

Also the back is all better finally. I guess I should start training for my race this weekend.
