Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() fowlmood - 2011-04-11 8:25 PM tricrazy - 2011-04-11 8:52 AM Okay MG, I seemed to have misplaced my motivation. Where do you usually find yours when it goes MIA? That is a tough question. Sometimes I just force myself to do it even though I don't want to other times I might miss a workout to get a mental break and rest. Then I also remember how much money I just forked out on entry fees, flights, equipment and number one I don't want to let myself down. Right now... my answer changes. The biggest motivator is someone telling me I can't do something. I just want to exhaust my body right now but I can't. My doc for my 2nd pregnancy was super conservative and didn't want me to run. (I ran thru about 7 mos. with the first.) As soon as that baby popped out (ha -- anything BUT popping out, that one... 9 years ago on Friday, but who's counting?) I was ready to MOVE. I swore I would never complain about running for the rest of my life. Yeah, that sort-of wore off, but it did take several years for it to happen!! Hurting my hamstring now has me feeling super motivated -- I will be cherishing a healthy body soon enough, not taking anything for granted, and loving the toughest of workouts!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One thing running definately does is help keep you thin and that helps on the bike too. I've learned to enjoy my easy runs for relaxation and thinking time and my hard runs or races for testing my limits. Also the more you run the easier it gets! |

Fabulous photo...my golden feels the same way about her vet! I have lost 10 lbs since I started training seriously. Crazy how it just melts off. Tomorrow, I am going run happy, smiling at least half of the time! I love this group so far! ~Cheri PS: Does any have a good swim workout (1500 or so) they would like to share? I am bored with mine!

Tony calls me at work mins. before he is supposed to take the kids to school asking me about the location of our daughter's shoes. She doesn't like any of the ones he picked. She says they are all too small. Anyway I help him locate a pair then as he is getting ready to hang up the phone I hear him yelling at our son, "Drew, we do not have time to paint your sister's toenails. We are leaving." Ahhh I love my kids. My wife's a midwife and goes to work very early so I've always done a lot of the early morning stuff with the kids - until recently because she's decided she doesn't like working so she's gone casual! I used to get into work stressed up to my eyeballs because of not being able to find one shoe, hat, sock, bag etc etc etc!!! The kids never seemed to care, I could have sent them barefoot really... hahaha! i missed sam's post. i can totally relate. mornings like this morning can suck because i can't find a shoe and jarrett is two time zones west of me. calling her at 4 am ain't an option. and yeah man, some days i pull into the office garage all stressed out. most days this happens though i'm laughing at myself an a little while later.
Sadly I hear this behavior doesn't get any better just b/c they get older. Tony still calls me at work to ask where something of HIS is!!!! ;-) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Masters swim today. It was a recovery workout and just what the doctor ordered. Tuesday's for whatever reason have been the day the past three weeks where I just felt totally beat up. Today I got in a groove and the slower pace allowed me to just work on being fluid. Thursday swims I've just felt so much stronger. 3100 yards today.

that is AWESOME... Glad to hear that. I recall going through that same thing last year.. it is an amazing feeling... Don't get me wrong I still have runs I question...But most of the time that goes away shortly into the run. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wonder if they would consider giving each group their own sub forum? This would be so much easier to follow and stay on topic if there were separate threads in our own forum. |

I just find myself re-reading pages I've already read every time I view the thread. I just think if we do start on a topic like swim pacing and heart rate on race day it would be easier if that was it's own thread. |

Well, that would get pretty crazy to manage, since I think most of us are here to encourage one another, or to get advice from our friends, talk about things that are extremely random, post funny photos, bring up television trivia, or some to post monster workouts....there would be like 100 threads a day!!! don't mind me...i'm on a taper week and feeling a little punchy.

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have found that I have to "surf" the MG. There are some topics where I have virtually nothing to add, e.g., nutrition. A lot of members have a great deal of knowledge of this topic so all is well, but since I do not have GI issues (cast iron stomach) I kind of read over those posts. Sometimes I have something to add, but what I generally like to get is the general up-beat vibe that come from the group as a whole. If there were separate topics in our own forum I might lose that. I just think if we do start on a topic like swim pacing and heart rate on race day it would be easier if that was it's own thread. gotcha. couple things that might help you (and the other new folks) but may not make sense or seem like bs right now... down the road in a few weeks or days maybe you'll be reading this thread and all of the sudden it will click. don't ask me what will click... but it will. it can be a little frustrating until this point because it may seem we're all over the road. but there's are reason lots of us have become close friends over the past years, and not just online but in real life. the living nature (craziness) of this mentor group is part of the foundation for all that. also, questions get rehashed all the time. don't ever be concerned about asking a question because you think its been asked before, might be stupid, seems to novice, etc... hope this kinda helps. always feel free to pm me or anyone you feel comfortable with. i see stamford on your race list. forgot to mention earlier, i'm from greenwich. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question I will be starting my new plan on the 25th of April to start getting ready for a new HIM in September. I am using one of the custom plans from BT. This plan has me going through a Base training phase again and was wondering if that is necessary since it has only been a month since my last HIM. I have been running swimming and biking to maintain my fitness so I wouldn't fall back behind. |
