Between excitement and my energy returning I am having trouble focusing today. Next week could be in trouble in regards to work. Work is definately suffering. I am not doing a whole lot of work either unless you count trying to plan out my meals or at least what I should be eating between now and the race and thinking about what gear I need to pack, unpack and repack, plus looking at the weather, and looking at taper week to figure out which day is going to be cut out because of travel. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I just had to change a flat . . . on my car. Hopefully that is my allotment for the present time. Going to put on new rubber on my wheels, but I haven't sprung for nice race wheels yet. Would really like to though. I usually carry one tube and a patch kit. Two CO2s. Looking forward to flying to Boise. Hardest part for me is always trying to remember what I need to pack with me. Tapering sucks. |

Reminded my wife about leaving Thursday morning so I'd have all day Friday to check-in, drive course, bring bike to T1, etc. She did not want to leave until Thursday night and waste the whole next day obsessing over my race. We compromised. I just booked her a ticket and I pick her up at the Boise airport Friday night. |

Man trying to keep the packing list down to fly would be a challenge! Since I sit in front o f a computer all day I actually have my list in a spreadsheet and it's definitely not short. Good thing there are only two of us making the trip, my poor little Civic will be loaded down |

They get in about 4. My wife was going to drive down on Friday but after figuring out the cost to drive 2 vehicles down, it was only going to save us maybe $100 and the $100 is well worth the time she has to spend driving. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread First on the list of things we obsess about but can't control: Forecast says 79 degrees and 10 mph wind. That would be about perfect, so book it! I'll also take anything above about 56 for water temp. Actually, for me, anything above about 60 and I start to get hot at some point in my wetsuit. |

I try to tell myself as long as I remember my bike, helmet, shoes, running shoes that really, I should be fine. I know, I know, there are a dozen other things I need to remember, but that is what Wednesday night will be for! |

Elite 4564 Boise | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I went for a little run today. They definitely will not be doing the run course they've done for the last few years. They are widening the greenbelt and a good .5 mile section is tore up and blocked off right now. The river is back down to normal though so the course on the website should be the correct one. |

From what I've read they can cause havoc on the bike.Question though: How many CO2 cartridges should I take? I was thinking just 1 but maybe that isn't smart? I was only planning on taking 1 extra tube with me. I've been writing out my list of things needed for each transition and also for how I am going to plan my morning out.
I had two flats on my ride today...haven't had a flat in probably 1500+ miles and today I had two. First, my back tire had some shard of metal and 43 miles in my front got hit with a monster GOat Head. Such a bummer since today was last long ride before. BUT on a positive note, I realized that my CO2 pump doesn't work and got a little bit of practice just in case. I will definitely be bringing 2 tubes, 2 CO2. |

New user 41 Portland | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Was going out for an easy ride around Sauvie Island to keep the legs loose and everything. Holy head win! I checked my phone when I was done and it was only 10 MPH according to the weather app. I really really hope theirs not much wind on the bike. My kitchen table has become my packing and organization spot and it feels good to be on top of things. Can't wait about one week from right now (give or take a couple hrs for each of us) we will be putting back some cold ones! So excited! |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I'm trying to put a relay together.... I need a runner. WTC sucks and wants to charge me fee after fee.... to upgrade from athlete to relay, it will cost $100 for the relay upgrade + $25 late fee + USAT fees if the runner isn't a USAT member. I will pay HALF of the upgrade and late fee ($62.50) and the runner would pay the other. That's pretty cheap for a half marathon entry. I am slow, but my sherpa group is super fun and there will be beers at the end. If I can't find a relay option, I'll just swim/bike and DNF and won't get a medal. I kinda want the damn medal. Thanks! |

It was the swim that probably would have done me in. :-P Sucks we have to pay more though. They just like to stick it to you wherever they can. :-) Liz |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Hi Liz - I just sent you an email Ironically, its the swim that I could do in my sleep. I've really been working on my run and had a super PR 2 weeks ago (my foot was probably broken during this race). I've been hitting all my training targets and was set up for a PR. I'm just bummed that I can't put it all together. Still, something is better than nothing! |

If it was Thurs-Sat I'd be concerned. Right now the weather looks manageable for next weekend. Fingers crossed obviously that we won't see any major shifts. |

So far, the models look pretty good for a high in the low-70s for Saturday. Most are also saying pretty breezy. |

Thanks Be careful not to drink too much plain water and flush the electrolytes out of your system. I try to eat less during the week so that I don't gain weight during my taper. But that may be a personal issue. I, for one, think if you eat healthy, you don't need to do a ton of carbo loading. Just eat good healthy food. Maybe a little more carbs, but not too much, and I put NUUNs in my water to top of the electrolytes. Good luck to you. |

I know I need to start hydrating this week but as for meals I'm trying to plan that out and any suggestions would be great. Thanks I'm eating pretty much the same stuff this week but taking in a touch more to account for what I burn off during exercise this week. Fluid wise? Well going to have to change that a bit since I will try to cut out my pepsi max pop/caffeine this week until Saturday. So I might have to top off my water with some salt or endurolytes since I get sodium from the pepsi max. But this week I am forcing myself to track what I am eating. I was doing pretty well with it but got in a slump for the last 3 weeks. Tracking my foods makes me eat better by staying away from candy etc. So for you I'd stick to what you normally have been eating. One of the main rules is to not change what you have been doing so far. Well if you like beer or whatever, cut that out this week until the race is over. |

I'm a veteran marathoner, though, and will likely follow my usual race-week plan: Eat normal things with reduced portions the first three days, then heavy pasta on Thursday afternoon and Friday night. Avoid too much fiber and refined sugar. I'll probably have my Friday evening meal fairly late due to the late start on Saturday. Gettin' excited! (And a little scared -- that chop during yesterday's swim was no fun.) |
