![]() Fred D - 2012-01-09 6:03 PM Thread in the ironman forum proposing that one can go sub 12 hours in an IM on 2 hours a week of training. Thoughts? Thoughts? troll |

![]() Run update. Ran 4 trail miles yesterday. Now, before you start yelling at me for running on trails It feels like I am mostly back to the management stage, and I am working pretty hard on glute strength as the suspicion is this is gluteus medius related. Hips were sore getting out of bed, but feel pretty good today even after sitting for a while, so knock wood it's on the upswing. I am just going to build slowly to Calif and see how it goes. ![]() | ![]() Travel back to Tucson today. Good timing, rain in the forecast here. This state is so misnamed. Last time I came to FL, which wasn't that long ago, I arrived in a downpour... Question for the swimmers. When do you breath in relation to the recovery part of your stroke? I think I have my timing messed up and I am not sure if it is causing me to slow down or what. I pretty much start breathing as soon as I start my recovery but I keep seeing things about breathing when your arm is right above your head really. So that's kind of the total opposite of when I breath. |

You know you'll be miserable for a long time after in recovery. But why do an IM if you don't like to train? And if you are only doing 2 hours you don't like to train. Even the most busy of folks can find more then 2 hours in their week. |

Why do an IM if you really don't like training? I think most Of us doing the distance stuff at a basic level LIKE endurance training. It probably is not totally off from the Gatordeb thread going on about wanting to finish an IM even though she hates training. So it's the philosophical aspect tat interests me.Fred D - 2012-01-09 6:03 PM Thread in the ironman forum proposing that one can go sub 12 hours in an IM on 2 hours a week of training. Thoughts? I just don't get the mentality of putting in the bare minimum. Or doing it to say you've done it. I am not a big volume person but I want to do the work - the accomplishment is far more satisfying when preceded by hard work, smart goal-setting and really committing to it. For me, some of the joy of training is reduced just due to the juggling between all the other things going on but i can honestly say I do love it. |

Honestly I don't have time for much else lol. Same here. I used to golf 4 days a week and dabbled in rec ice hockey. Kids and a ruptured disc took care of that. Mostly kids. Today is a rest day for me per my training plan. I decided to get used to it a few weeks ahead of time. Do any of you have trouble with scheduled days? Mentally, I tend to think I'm not getting fitter if I take a complete rest day, even though I know that's not necessarily true. I play hockey once a week (occasionally twice) during the winter. I really love the sport. I used to play golf quite a bit but triathlon has definitely taken over that. If I am going to be gone for 4 hours it will be on my bike not on a golf course. Now the only time I golf is when I want to drink beer I usually take Mondays off primarily because Saturday and Sunday are higher volume days and I could use it. I know that family and work can force people to take unscheduled days off on a weekly basis. If that is your case I would probably not have a scheduled day off just take it when it comes. This is also why I like training early in the morning because very rarely does something come up where I miss a workout. ETA: If your body feels good on a scheduled day off - do some active recovery biking or swimming. An EZ swim is good to keep your stroke in tact and feel for the water plus you are doing something Edited by rymac 2012-01-10 9:26 AM |

Way to many people out there looking for shortcuts. 2 hours a week is comical really...trying to figure out what could be done in 2hours each week that would prepare someone for a 17 hour race...becuase it will take that person all 17 hours. I think we are preaching to the choir as all of us like to train...but funny that people actually consider these things! |

i find her threads totally useless, she has been posting like that for the last year, i responded to the first few, now i find it a waste of time and keystrikes. if you are gonna race the race, respect the distance and the work to get it done. I really do not like the shortcut route or the people that are involved in them. If you hate training, STOP training, if your biggest goal is to hear some guy call your name, you have bigger issues in your life than you are realizing.
Sorry, but posts like hers totally cheese me and i have absolutely NO respect for them. Maybe a little harsh, but it is the way i feel.

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So anyway, my coach has me scheduled for a day off every monday, last night i worked on one of my race bikes, i probably shoulda worked out, i wanted to do core, but i am paying him for his input, and i am sure in 2 months i will be wanting the rest day, just felt weird, i wanted to work out, but didn't.
anyone else feel like that?? |

I think of her posts like a COJ post. Think of it that way and then it seems better. I don't really get her and her questions are very much the same over and over BUT she actually gets good responses. She ignores them, you can tell by her very next question, but I like to think that someone else is learning. Well, she might actually be learning something I must admit. She just takes a really long time to get there. I remember when she was trying to do all the group classes and wanted to train for an IM. She enjoyed the group classes and hates tri training but at least she picked one. lol |

anyone else feel like that?? Totally. I tried the day off approach and it just mentally didn't work for me. I also think it gives me too many 2 a days, which is harder to fit in my schedule. So I am sticking to the 7 day plan this time. Life gives me too many breaks as it is, regardless of my desire to take them or not |

anyone else feel like that?? ![]() I know I am often anxious to do all the training i can in the early stages of a training cyclye and then anxious for reast days in peak weeks. I hope to be able to build in a regular rest day and only tapping into it when life is pretty crazy. For me, Fridays are the hardest to get in if i can't get in a morning workout so it's best if it's a rest day - or i beat myself up for not doing any training. |

Who am I kidding, I just do whatever is on the schedule. But duing a big IM build my coach will give me a day off to keep my crap mentally and physicaly together. At the most I might swim on a Monday just to get some extra yardage. My training related stress isn't based consecutive days, it's often more volume based. I can train everyday no problem if I am doing 10-15 hours per week. Put me closer to 20-25 and I start going crazy. ![]() |

I'll have to look for a definition but the swim coach used this one for the group and it really clicked for me on how it all was put together - not sure if it's what you're looking for ...

Congrats! Sweet! What does it involve?? not quite sure yet, i am sure i will get more info, but basically just raise awareness for the organization and their cause. This one kinda hit home, i had only submitted two apps, i really wanted to be a part of a philanthropic endeavor this year, and this seemed like a worthy cause. |
