leopard8996 - 2011-07-04 6:34 PM For those of you doing CDA 2012 I thought this email from a local coach would interest you - I emailed all 3 as I will not return to race at CDA if the bike course changes Hello all, As you may or may not have heard, there is a move underfoot to change the magnificent bike course at Ironman CDA.  You are getting this message because you have either trained or raced on the current course, or know someone that has.  Apparently the five year agreement they signed with the various cities the course goes through is coming to and end, thus the re-neogiatiting and potential re-mapping of the course. If you would like to see the current beautiful, hilly, epic course remain the same, it is imperative that you contact those in charge and let your voice be heard. Below is an email from Nancy Lowery, the director of the IMCDA swim course, that outlines the three individuals to send your communication to. Again rumor, but the rumor is the new course would run as an out and back on Hwy 95 southbound toward Worley, ID.  Clearly nothing that anyone could, or would want to train on prior to the event.  Additional downsides of the new course would be the total lack of crowd support as it is relatively difficult for anyone to get down the highway while the cyclists are on it.  That said, really the point of our discussion needs to be the amazing course we already have.  Epic climbs, phenomenal support as the course winds through Hayden Lake and unsurpassed scenery. Julie Dibens, the female winner of this year's event even talked about how much she loved the bike course in her post-race interview. If you can please take a few minutes out of your evening tonight, or day tomorrow, to write an email outlining why YOU love the current course and why you believe the event might be diluted with a new course, I would greatly appreciate it.  Again, there are three contact emails below for you to send your message to. Please forward this message to anyone you know that has competed at IMCDA in any year from 2007 on (old Post Falls course prior to that) or has spent time training on the course. Mac Cavasar, the Race Director, is the one that is pushing for the change. His email is [email protected], or [email protected]. I also think it is worth sending emails to Sandi Bloem, the Mayor of CDA at [email protected] and the CDA Chamber Director, Todd Christenson at [email protected]

You should post this over on Slowtwitch also.

Thank you for posting this Bonnie.  This is rapidly becoming a BIG issue here in CDA.  I have spoken with many local triathletes and total of one (1) has been in favor of the change.  I know some of the issues that are contributing to this but the negatives FAR outweigh the positives.  From the safety aspect alone, our medical team that has supported this race from the beginning is seriously thinking about withdrawing our support if this change is implemented.  I won't bore you with all the safety concerns here but will leave you with one to think about.  Consider a pack of riders going down Mica grade at 50+ mph (easy to achieve) and just one hits a rough spot and goes down...carnage.  Combine that with the lack of crowd support and taking the race away from the communities that have supported it for so long and the whole idea is terrible.  So please, if you've signed up for next year, if you're just considering the race in the future, or if you've done it once and never plan on it again but enjoyed the course, write to the people Bonnie mentioned and let them know your opinion.  Every one of you will count, believe me.  I've already spoken with Mac, the race director, and he knows my feelings about the changes.  He's been getting a LOT of feedback about this so the more the better.  Thanks much.  Hope all of you who came to our town enjoyed your time.  Come back and race again!

First i'd like to say a huge congrats to everyone who completed IM CDA this year!..

I have just signed up for 2012 and about to do my first triathlon (sprint) on Sunday.. looking forward to the journey that i will ride this forthcoming year..

will there be a new thread for the 2012 hopefuls or will it be ok to ask questions, post comments/thoughts here?... just figured that probably i'd be asking a lot of the same questions that have already been dealt with previously on this thread..

Excited to meet some fellow IM newbies along the way

Donnie

A friend responded with this regarding the bike course change:

This is no longer a rumor and the course IS set to change next year. If you want to try to get the route changed back to the current route, emails also need to be sent to the Mayor of Hayden Lake, NANCY MORRIS. The City of Hayden Lake (not the City of Hayden) is a large reason the route is changing.

First off congrats to everyone who SIGNED UP for this years' IM CdA. Thats the beginning of the race to me. To all who started even better and to all those who finished (like me!) you are all 'an Ironman'

My race went very well due to some luck (weather) and being prepared. Thats all we can do is prepare for the race and then seen what happens. And then deal with anything that 'goes wrong'.

My swim was as expected. I got pummeled a few times but I expected it. Its the CdA swim. Its narrow. And 2500 people are turning left at a bouy .5miles out. It is what it is. The water was cool but very doable for me. I swam on Wed, Thur and Fri and only Wed was nice conditions. Thur and Fri were crazy but my attitude was...its an Ironman. Deal with it. Once I felt the water temp I was relieved. I had full booties and a neoprene cap.  Dipped in the water before the start and was ready.

My IM CdA swim was only 4 minutes slower than my 2.4mile swim race 9 days earlier so I was very happy. 1:22

The bike was the bike for me. 7:15 or so. I took in ALOT of water so I stopped ALOT to pee. Lost time but knew I needed to keep from cramping. The only issue in the swim was my R calf was tight and I felt it on the bike as well. My bike riding time was about 6:55. Funny as a few years ago my bike was the strong leg for me. Not now. I could have pushed harder but being my first IM I dont really know how hard I CAN push and still save some for the swim.

Run was doable but I had issues like others. First 14miles were great. Felt great. Kept slowing down to a managable pace and still my stomach stopped working. Terrible pain even to the touch. Put me to a walk. But I didnt get down because once I was off the bike I know Id be an Ironman. After walking 16-22 I got coke in my system and felt great. Battled thru some blisters (from walking up/down the hills) but finished very strong. 14hrs 9 mins. I know I had a sub-14 in me, probably could have made a 13:30 in reality but its not a big deal. My fitness was there I just wasnt able to use it fully.

Main goal after signing up in 2010 was to finish in 2011.  Goal completed.

Now what?  I will do the Seafair Sprint (never done before. A fun Seattle Tri) and then Lake Stevens 70.3 in August. That will give me every Tri distance (400sprint, 800 sprint, Olympic, Half Iron and Full Ironman) this year. Wasnt what I had planned this year but after I thought about why not. Ive got this IM training in so might as well use it up!

I wanted to thank everyone on this thread for outstanding training, and race info.  It’s time for me to move onto another assignment.  I wish I could sign up for another full, but duty calls and my next assignment will be too hard to train for full IRONMAN races plus “LIPSTICK 6” (BOSS…aka my much better half) said no fulls.

Good luck IRONMEN/IRONWOMEN I hope we cross paths on some shorter races in the years to come.

ALL OF YOU ARE RANGERS in my book!!

AIRBORNE!!!

Does anyone know where I can find the full rankings for the race that include overall split rankings?

Also, is it too late to order a finisher's jacket?

So, what are everybody's plans post IMCDA?

I've got a couple local sprints I'm gonna do.  I'm contemplating a HIM in the fall.

My big push over the summer is to go sub 20 min at 5k.  I'm at around 21:30 right now, so we'll see.

I am hoping to do a sprint in a couple weeks, an oly a week after that, and am now contemplating either Lake Stevens 70.3, or a local half iron in September (Black Diamond).  It all depends on how my recovery goes the rest of this month.

I tried riding earlier this week, and to my dismay my knee was killing me towards the end of the ride.  I need to learn patience with my body I guess.

Is it reasonable to think that I could race a sprint tri next weekend?  Or am I asking for an injury?  I feel pretty good, but have only done a few light workouts since the race.

I am looking into B2B HIM this fall, but need the bosses approval first before booking it.

That looks interesting.  Timeline's about right.  Was considering a brand new HIM in Nashville...

I'm a moron and was going to buy one of those on Thursday. By the time I came back Saturday, they were sold out! You would think Ironman would bring enough supply, or at least give us a way to order fun items like that one if we don't get a chance (or blow it!) on Day 1.

Black Diamond is cool - I'll be there.  Lake Stevens is expensive, a sketchy bike course and parking is terrible, so no repeat for me.  There is another sprint/oly up in Monroe on Lake Tye.  That's the only other Washington race I could find in August.

Depends how you feel.  I started my reverse taper on Monday after one full week off.  I will do about 9-10 hours this week and all is good.  A sprint seems doable.
