The Garmin Edge 705 and the cadense...only $450 dude do it.

That would mean I have to wait on a new front wheel, which is why I want one of you to buy it.

Biggie it also comes with all the maps and SD card...

What if you log in as Sam, and sent him the note of interest. Would it make you feel better that her ID bought it?

HAHA I like the way you think.

It would be for her too you know since we always get lost on long rides..

Good luck to those racing this weekend!!!

I made an impromptu plan to ride a century in Traverse City (MI, of course)...  Then found out my wife already made other plans.  So I'm not sure yet what's going to happen.  I'll probably stay home and try for another 50 alone.

I joined a TdF challenge and a 'Get Ripped' challenge, I'm finding lately that I'm more challenged to stay up on all the these threads.

*Missing my SWBKRUN peeps.  Only another week or so of the TdF Challenge, then I'm back.

Reuben-- 10:23?  I was with Suzy on this one... Where are you coming up with that?  My guess is that you have set a "time goal" for the 1/2 marathon training plan, and this is what they are telling you to do.  However, I have to disagree with this if it is your longest run to date.  I am with everyone in saying just get your mileage in.... BUILD YOUR BASE!!!  Then work on speed.  The good part of your workout is that you got through it.  You took the tough road, and having a MENTAL challenge is almost as hard as the physical challenge.  This day will come back to you someday when you are struggling, you'll remember the effort and perserverance you had on this run, and say....Easy stuff. I can get through this.

I have said it before, but once you figure out the mental aspect of pushing your body further, faster, and beyond it's comfort zone you will see your breakthrough workouts coming time and time again!

So looking at results from my tri last year where I got 2nd in AG which is coming up next weekend.

There were only 13 guys in my AG, this year there are 31.

I think I need to do this to stay up there again.

Swim Pace per 100MT1Bike Pace MPHT2Run Pace per Mile

LOL, he is 51 and put those numbers up.

I am pretty sure that the 23 mph and 7:30 run will be pretty tough for me to put up if not impossible, but WTH, might as well try for them.

How can a person do a 26 sec T1? Wow those were some fast times. Good luck Tony!!

And Steve, man a 2:32 Oly and last in AG. That is pretty competitive.

I did a 32 second T2 transition last year  (in a super sprint) when I didn't change shoes. The tranistion was set up prefectly to drop bike and helmet and kept on going.

BigReub - 2009-07-16 9:27 AM First thing this morning I have to says THANKS.  Thanks to all of you for the power you provide.  Last night at the 2 mile mark of a 6 miler I was hurting.  Trying to decide to walk or call my wife.  But I kept thinking Andy, Tony, Trevor, etc busted their tails, they hurt themselves today - I will too.  I finished, but well short of my target time.  Anyhow, I'm pretty confident that without this group I would have been walking.  Thanks.

Now to a question...The goal pace for this 6 miles was 10:23/mile.  I couldn't do that so I finished it at about 10:40 with miles 3, 4, and 5 at 11:00/mile.  So my question is this...when doing long runs is it better to stay near the goal pace?  Or simply get the miles in regardless of pace?

And it took until this morning to figure out the problem.  For some reason my wife made dinner at 4:30, a 2 hour softball practice at 6:30, and absolutely nothing to eat in the 5 hours before running.

When you are increasing distances it is more important to get the distance in. You can work on speed once you have your body accustomed to the distance.

I have a long sprint on Snday. Short drive from home so I'll head out in the morning. I'm going to use this as a good daily  training workout for my "A" race in Sept.

Cool Plans.  Crab season opened this week so I'm heading out on the boat with my FIL to catch some Dungeness............ I <3 Crab!  A day on the water will be nice too.

I think that's the one thing I miss most about not living in Maryland anymore - fresh crabs!  Or fresh seafood of any kind for that matter.  It's hard to get any kind of fresh seafood living in a landlocked state in the middle of the countryFrown.

Not racing this weekend but volunteering at a local tri.  I'm thinking about taking my bike along and getting in a ride after the race is done.  It's supposed to be gorgeous this weekend.

Tony, I don't think Sausage and Kraut are the way to go either.

Suzy and Steve, the 10:23 came from the Runner's World plan - this was a planned long run (should actually be tonight, but I have to be in Louisville all evening).  I am shooting for and training for a < 2 hour half.
This wasn't my longest run to date - just the longest in this training session.  6 miles is not that tough anymore - this was simply a bad day - I believe mostly due to a lack of fuel.
I figured since it was a long run, as opposed to a tempo run, slowing down and covering the distance would be best.  Fortunately, you all have confirmed that.

And, Steve, you are right - the mental challenge is always the hard part.  While those walk/call thoughts were circulating I was really struggling to keep going.  Then when I considered the pain this group had gone thru already on Wednesday I could do it too.  After that, although I couldn't speed up, I didn't have to work to keep moving.

And Suzy, I never call the wife, unless I was hurt I suppose, so that's not really an option.  Even with my phone with me I don't call.  I always figure I got myself there - find your own way back.

Thanks for all the tips and advice on the wetsuit everyone.  I made it to the park last night.  It still took me about 20 minutes to get the suit on - but I got it the whole way on this time!  Of course, there I was by my car, Body Glide in one hand, cooking spray in the other hand, and a car load of people a few spaces down staring at me!  I guess I should have gone into the bath house to change!  Oh, and all I had was butter flavored cooking spray.  It comes out very yellow!  I was a  little hungry, and I smelled so buttery good, I was tempted to start licking myself!!  My swim was awesome!  I loved swimming in the suit!  I felt so fast!  I don't know how far I swam, but looking back over my logs, it was considerably faster than last year!  Now, I just hope the race is wetsuit legal.Laughing

I had this conversation with the other Steve in my life yesterday.  He thinks I have done a "decent" job with the mental aspect of training, but not stellar!  Wants me to dump the IPOD and get more in touch with my pain.  Now doesn't that sound like a great way to spend a Friday morning doing my long run?

We arrived in Minocqua a little while ago.  It is 55F frickin degrees and is supposed to pour tomorrow with a high of 50F!  Talk about mental training.  I will just pretend I am Steve and Roni in Boise and tough it out!

Reuben--glad to hear the wife isn't an option.  The only time I ever called Paul was when I got hit by the bike.  Other than that, I am on my own too.

Yes, it really is this weekend!  bib #2120, I am very excited and had my first real nerves this morning when I opened the sports page to see a huge photo of a bike crash at the TdF...literally, my intestines got all crazy similar to how they feel the morning of most of my races!  From a photo.  So, I'm hoping that is it for the nerves.  I didn't have that feeling at all at the Oly in June and I was surprised by how calm I felt.  Hope I can channel that calmness.

Brought my bike over to my LBS today to check on the cable tension (gears started skipping on the trainer this week) and they told me it was from something sticky running into the cables.  Well, that darn aerodrink bottle spraying all over me (and the bike) the past month or so was the culprit.  They adjusted and cleaned everything and now it shifts like a brand new bike!  So, I think I am going to try the cellophane or duct tape trick and ride it in the neighborhood, see if it still splashes.

Good luck to all racing this weekend.  Thank you for the inspires, they really are wonderful   My uncle's memorial was today, I was super emotional.  I will carry him with me on this journey and hopefully he can carry me if things get heavy.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!  First race for me Sunday since April (the injury).  Half Mary in Wine Country.  Travel Day tomorrow, 10 hours with a 6 and 4 year old - mental training day too!  They give you a wine glass with your medal at the finish and there is wine tasting tents all over - my kind of race.

Kim - Good luck tomorrow!!!!  It is a Kona Qualifier too!

NO NO NO!!! I went home from work last night knowing/feeling that IT was coming.... The dreaded flu.  ARGH!!! I went to bed at 8pm last night and tossed and turned ALL night.  Absolutely haggard today.  Going to try and sneak out of work, and sleep before we make the 3 hr. drive to the lake.

I was really looking forward to RACING tomorrow.  I think the word racing it out of the picture and survival is the only thing possible tomorrow.  So frustrating!

Actually this is going to work out just fine.  You have Lake Stevens in a few weeks so skip this weekend to take care of yourself.  Then train your a$$ off for it next year.   DFL, DNS, Win.  That would be cool.
