I started PT again yesterday.  The new therapist is a runner and triathlete, so she understands the frustration of dealing with an injury that won't let you do what you want (and she raced Vineman, my A race for the year, last year, so that's pretty cool!).

We discussed my injury and she analyzed my strength, flexibility, and balance.  She said she doesn't see any obvious "here's your problem!" kind of thing at the moment, so we're going to work on strengthening and reducing tightness on the left side.  She said if we don't see any progress in the knee pain in four weeks that she'll send me back to the doc and tell him he's gotta find a new theory.  We're hopeful that this will help, but still feeling a little uncertain.  Regardless, I think it's probably good for me to do hip/glute/core strength stuff, as well as stretching and foam rolling, so whether it helps with the immediate issue or not, it should help prevent issues in the future.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I had a fun but bittersweet ride today. My last group ride with my BFF before she moves, I have her to thank for getting me started with my awesome Saturday group! I took it easy with the B group. There were 2 crashes on our ride today, one didn't seem too bad as he got right up but his bike was broken. The second crash ended in an ambulance ride for the guy I came home after that to rest up for tomorrow.

I just glanced at the IMSG 70.3 results. Looks like Bryan Dunn is 3rd in his AG after the bike!

Looks like he finished 4th, which I believe still gets him a Vegas spot

I just saw Bryan finished in 4:40:20 - that is none too shabby for a dude that has been on baby duty and whose only form of training for the last 5 months is doing CrossFit. St. George ain't no joke.

I am sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to Knoxville. I have the race check-in coordinator's cell number and instructions to call her just as soon as I arrive. No promises, but at least that is not a "no." Fingers crossed. Although if I am completely honest I might be a little relieved if I am not allowed to race: water temp is currently 57 degrees, 100% chance of rain all day tomorrow, high temp is projected to be 55 degrees. Wind sustained at 10~15 mph. The bike course is reported to be fairly tough (looks like 2200' in 24 mles, and lots of turns. Not really optimal conditions for a fast race, but then again, the conditions are the same for everyone!

Flatted twice on my ride today and I only had one spare tube with me so I had to make the call of shame to my wife to get picked up.  Fortunately I wasn't too far from home at the time.  I've never had two flats on the same ride before.

Ha, been there, done that.  Although if you hear Tina tell the story I was pretty much in Mexico.  Unlike you I was actually far from home, but I still had a ways to go to get to Mexico.  I always carry two tubes, but both had holes in them.

It's durafit...Bryan doesn't believe in crossfit...LOL.  But yeah, congrats to Bryan on being able to manage a new baby and a VQ.  A local guy to Hawaii won the AG race outright with a 4:19.  He's a super nice guy and just recently started getting elite fast.  He did 9:15ish at Kona with a 2:56 marathon.  He's still got lots of room for improvement on the bike, so I'm wondering if he might turn pro.

As for your race Rusty...sounds like miserable conditions...but maybe the sick little guy might want you to HTFU!

Just got back from my Triathlon...it went really well considering I was a bit rusty. I was 4th overall and 1st in my AG. I swam well, had the fastest bike split then got passed by 2 women on the run and just couldn't hang on to them.

The results are exactly what I would expect from my recent training. I actually ran a 22 min 5k which pleasantly surprised me, but it's hard to swallow when I used to be able to throw down a 20 min 5k off the bike

I might even do a race report...it's been a while!

Hey everyone, I will write more details later but I won my duathlon today - all the fasties were doing the super-sprint.

I ran a ton better than I ever have in a race before.  It wasn't quite 10k total but if it had been I would have been well under my open 10k PR with a 4:19/km pace.

Well, I didn't win anything. . But was able to run the 10k at wildflower, it was a very tough day but my kind of conditions. Yesterday was 100+. Today was hi 50s at my wave start, 20 mph and a severe wind warning. Very choppy swim. Bike was....interesting g with the cover and H3 front. Run was perfect, 60s and overcast. Run was just done very easy. Came in at 2:44.

Finally cracked an hour at 40k.  Unofficial since I was racing solo when it was supposed to be a 4 man team TT, but finished in 58:14 on roughly 260 watts.  I felt really strong despite not tapering at all and running 14.5 miles yesterday.  Lots of little things played a factor that I'll write up on more later.  Definately learned a lot of valuable info from this "race."

Hi all - thanks again for all the well-wishes. The rev3 folks were AWESOME and actually went way out of their way to make it so I could race. I went into this race aiming to win my age group, but just as I was going into the water with my wave I saw Bruce Genarri go in just in front of me. And just like that I was racing for second. If you don't know who Bruce is, you should; I think he raced pro for a while, but he is a former American champion and he has also placed either third or fourth at worlds. The first year he raced Kona was back when the pros and age groupers still started together he was the first overall out of the water. He is also a really nice guy. I had a great swim (for me) and hit the swim exit in 23:xx. It was a long run to the mats, but based on Bruce's mat time he had to be 15:xx to the waters edge. That is a gap that is tough to bridge in an Olympic distance race. I did wind up with a distant second. I know with age group racing it always depends on who shows up. But DANG! Wy did Bruce have to show up at this one?!?

Conditions were just about as awesomely awful as they could be, but at least it did not start hailing until we were driving home. My wife just got nicked off the podium with a fourth place AG - that is a great performance for her as well.

What?!? You skipped an opportunity to show everyone who is boss on the swim??? Way to go on the duathlon - sounds like it is time to sign up for another 10k? I mean now that it is not snowing and all...
