Trina-hope it was just a bruise and some ice and maybe a NSAID will do the trick.  Re: look keos, I find that I have to clip out of the left pedal "heel toward bike" whereas with my right pedal, I can clip out in either direction...and I have to do right foot first, don't ask me why.

Suzy, swim coach never really said "you have a six beat kick" but I did ask her about two beat kick and she basically told me not to worry about it yet, since she thought I actually had good body position and the kick was not interfering with my forward progress...and at that point i had so many other issues with my breathing, my "low" elbows, lol, now that I have some of that figured out, I may go back and take more lessons.

Video would be great and then we can take a guess at how many beats in the kick...not to mention point out head position (which I used to look straight down) but now look a little in front of me.

John--can't wait to read your RR.

Trevor--great job on your PR!  Awesome, Speedy

Kind of nervous about answering this, but I'll give it my best.  I typically use a two beat kick - but let me clarify this by saying I am a distance person more than a sprinter.  Sprinters tend to use a six beat.  The six beat kick tires me more, and for a distance race I don't want to come out of the water with my legs shot.   Suzy, you probably are kicking but you just are focusing more on your upper body and aren't noticing your legs

great job man.  i read your post yesterday and was hoping to lay down a pr on the backside today.  not even close. so i'm really glad one of us did! the highlight of my day was hanging out with andy on the boat ride out to the start.  then talking sh+t to matty reed about drinking a coke instead of a beer.  no i'm not kidding.  i really was.  see.  tremendous guy.  so was andy potts.  everything in between the boat ride and the sh=t talk was just awful. worst race yet. rr later.

yes.  i did.  among other things. when you actually talk to him in person, not just read st, things come across much differently.  i know you know this and i'm not getting on you. i'm just saying.  he also said the pm's he's getting over there are a lot worse than what you see up on the board.  i wonder how many of those losers who post that crap would have the guts to ask him about it in person?

I know someone asked this a while ago but does anyone have discount information for "Infinit". I'm fgetting lwo and will have to order soon.

I dont have a code... but speaking of infinit...

Is there a special trick to not getting it to foam up when you are mixing it with water?

That drove me NUTS last year -- this season I am doing better, and I'm not sure why. Lately I've mixed my bottles the night before, just for effeciency's sake the next morning. I typically put in my powder, then fill my bottle about 1/3 full, and then stir with a knife. Then I add a bit more water (up to about 1/2 way?) and let it sit -- either overnight in the fridge, or just while I prepare everything else. I always add ice to my bottles (yes, even if it's 35 degrees outside), so I usually throw in some ice then top it off with water. Screw on the top, and give it a few good shakes.

Stirring it with the knife seems to have lessened the foam factor for me -- much less foam than when you shake it.

I'm not sure. I haven't had that problem with mine. I  put all the Infinit required into the bottle fill to the top with water and shake like heck. Just shake and mix no foam. Maybe it has something to do with the formula your using.

Trina. Nice work but when you're injured it is OK to say screw it and let yourself heal. Especially after a nasty fall. One thing for sure you'll have no problems staying postive about finishing your races.

Linda, please continue to answer any and all swim queries!  I heart your swimming!  btw, it was really fun with paddles the other day.  It took a long time for me to be ready to use them, but I really loved it!  When I took them off and swam without them, I could really feel the water with my forearms.  It was awesome.

I know someone the exact opposite of you....

I noticed my new formula foams a bit, where as what I finished last year off with did not. Probabaly something to do with formula...This one has protein in it whereas the formula from last year did not. Maybe?

Yikes Trina -- please keep an eye on yourself and think about seeing a doc tomorrow if things aren't feeling better. I'd hate to hear that you did something internally. But I gotta say, props to HTFU. Just be careful and listen to your body. Running does tend to hurt a lot more. I took a spill in my driveway on Friday (yes, driveway) and pounded my hip (fine, just a scrape and a bruise). I sure felt it yesterday on my brick run, though. Ouch!!

OK -- so two people posted on the left Look Keo pedal being tricky to get out of. Anyone else have any comments on that? For my new bike (which is 99% a reality next week... I hope to make a final final final decision TOMORROW [after finding two more bikes to add to my decision-making process today]) I am choosing between Ultegras and Looks (I ordered the Look Keo 2 Max). I bought a set of each hoping to have my fitter help me decide -- if nothing else he can install pedals/cleats much faster than I can so I can at least try them both. ANYWAY --  I am a left-foot-first-out of the pedals person. If I have to rely on right foot first, I will spend a lot of time sucking face with the pavement. So just curious if there are others that have left-out issues???

First outdoor ride with the PT today, and need some help with the numbers:

Avg Watts 189 (pedaling)
Avg Watts 175
Normalized power 195

Which of these am I supposed to use on a regular basis?  The avg watts is obviously factoring every time I'm at zero (I think), and the avg watts while pedaling is self-explanatory, but I haven't done my reading yet so I don't know how normalized power is calculated.

I was wondering during the ride if the PT took into consideration your time at zero power, and I guessed it wouldn't - but now I look at the avg numbers it sure seems to.  It also did the same for cadence.  It had it at 79 (really low for me), but then for pedaling showed 86.

Any help is appreciated.

Awesome pic, John! Can't wait to read the RR!

Congratulations Trevor! Super speedy!Great job!

Trina- Nice job finishing the brick! Take care of yourself and see a doc if it gets worse or doesn't improve soon. Also, depending on which Keo pedals you have, you can adjust the tension making them a bit easier to clip out of. I can't remember the model names, but all except the cheapest entry level Looks have an adjustable tension. Mine have a allen wrench hole on the clip with a + and - on either side. Just turn it toward the - to lesson the tension. If you don't have the adjustable tension, I would try clipping out on the harder side first. That may give you a bit more time and then the other will be easy. When I first got my pedals I practiced while riding on straightaways just clipping and unclipping to see what worked best for me. Umm, still fell over a few times though. Hope you feel better soon!

Kyla- Other than when I first got my pedals and clipless were completely new to me, I haven't had any trouble clipping out on left/right or both feet. Excited to see what bike you get!

I leave for the weekend and there are 18 pages to read! Holy crap! lol

Ok, first ever Tri done and I gotta say, I am kind of impressed with myself. I feel like with more training I might actually be able to be good at this stuff. I came in 7/16 in my age group and 189/300 overall.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd even be able to pull this off. I really thought I would blow up on the run and have to walk. Even with a ginormous (WTF is THAT!) kind of hill to climb up for the first .5 of the run, I kept on chugging. That first mile was 11:35 minutes of torture. lol

Anyhow, I feel great! I can't wait to do my next one. My focus is now shifting to running and biking more. I can swim the distance easily, I'm just slow, and until I get a coach or the time to invest in technique, my time would be best spent getting more speed in the bike and run. I was just 8 minutes off of 4th place. 21 minutes off of 1st. I've got some work to do!

Note to MG - do not do a race and then immediately get in a car and drive 5 hours...  I could barely walk after I kinda rolled out of the car...  Ibuprofen and good night's sleep should help...  I will try to post a race report tomorrow.  Great time hanging with John!  My race was a little more brutal than I expected, but I have been neglectful of my training, so I got what I deserved!

Kyla: re: look pedals, I think it is me....sadly, I am kind of weird with stuff on the left side.   During a ride last month, I clipped out of the left first and then thought, omg, what do I do now????  Creature of habit.   Overall, really love them.

John, you are making me want to go onto ST, but I have vowed against it for various reasons, sea lions being one of them!

Re: foaming of infinit, if I do the mix the night before (thanks for reminding me), I don't get the foam as much.  I think it is due to the protein content in the mix...

G'nite all.  I have a 3 hour trainer ride tomorrow morning and am thinking of watching "Bollywood Hero" and maybe Sherlock Holmes from our netflix.
