Subject: RE: DOWN for the Holidays!

Looks like this could be a good idea.  I'm going to need extra accountability during this holiday season.  So here is my information.

Name: Justin

Basics: 26 year old single male.  Work full time, and am working on my masters degree in water chemistry.  No family to worry about so I should have plenty of time!!

Height/Weight: 5'10'' 193.2lbs

Goal: My weigh loss has slowed quite a bit, down from 238 in March.  I would be happy to have my final weigh in of the year read 185.

Activity: Swim, Bike, Run is there anything else???  I need to get on the bike trainer more as my time on the road is limited.  I have been getting out on the roads on weekends lately at least.  I want to focus more on the run during winter, and just keep bike maintenance.  Swimming is no problem, I usually go at lunch during work.

Nutrition:  Stop the fast food.  Being single and living alone I often find it hard to cook for myself.  I do eat fairly healthy, but do go out a bit to much.  I also need to avoid the extra temptations, snacks, cookies and whatever find themselves into the office during this time of the year.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey Justin! I just started too, and the good news is that once you start cooking for yourself you save a LOT of $$ by not going out to eat.

I succumbed to a krispy kreme today. I was going to my Physics class in the engineering building and they had donuts for a quarter, and I had 27 cents in my pocket. Still feel iffy about it because I haven't had a donut in months, and I need to go running before my evening lab today =P

Welcome to Get DOWN!  I live alone, cooking for me is kinda tough, but I'm learning!  For me it's usually about cooking bulk.  Cook a bunch of chicken breasts at the same time and then reheat as needed.  Easy to throw them on top of salad.  I also eat a bunch of canned tuna....I buy the no salt kind.

So far, the Challenge of the Day is a success...just a few more hours.  The candy bowl on my desk is untouched (by me anyway).

Managed to pass out the candy without sneaking any......ate raisins.  Still a lot of sugar but no fat or genetically modified garbage to hang around ad infinitum on my butt.

Made it through the day with no candy! Also got in a 35' bike, core work, and LOTS of walking. Grand-monkey was shy about taking candy at first, but got the hang of it pretty quick and had a blast. I'm pretty sure next time we go for a walk he's going to want to go to all the houses begging for candy, lol. Hope everyone had a great night!

Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red...
Subject: RE: DOWN for the Holidays!
Yeah me! Made it through yesterday with no candy. Plus got a little extra cardio by trick-or-treating with the girls - they were champs and probably went 2-3 miles counting all the cul-de-sacs and cut-backs through the neighborhood. (I didn't get all the extra exercise of running up to the doors - I let them handle that.)

Got home, got them in bed (late) and realized we hadn't let them have any candy...bad parents.

But I didn't eat any candy - settled for meat, cheese, and a beer as my treat.

And now we have probably 20+ pounds of candy. We give them 2 pieces a day until it runs out, usually around May - this year probably longer. But I will NOT eat any of it. I will NOT.

Congrats to all those who made it through yesterday's challenge.  We did it!

And, while everyone else around me was eating pizza, soda, brownies and candy, I had a piece of salmon and asparagus.  Only thing I gave into: I had a scotch on the rocks Cool

I did well all day yesterday until supper when I had a small piece of birthday cake AND ice cream !
Then later watching TV I had chips.  Overall a nutrition fail day.

No.. not an overall fail, just an evening fail. It is my weak time as well. We just have to plan better for the evenings and STAY strong. I can be done!

I had wine as my evening fail, then later, popcorn (air popped, no butter but LOTS of salt).

Ha, that sounds familiar, I do pretty much the same.  I am thinking of getting a food saver so I can make some meals and vacuum seal them, I am notorious for wasting leftovers.

sooooooo...cabin fever and hurricane fever hit me.  We were stuck indoors, waiting for power to go out (having been without power for 2 weeks several times) and spent the time cleaning out the fridge.  It became, lets make pumpkin bread. Let's cook the crab balls, lets cook all the frozen pizza.  Turns out we never lost power--completely amazed at that one.

I did manage to get 1:30 on the trainer Monday and an hour run Tuesday...but no excuse for my poor eating.

I am very excited though that I cut asparagus, onions, and mushrooms and sauteed them last night for dinner, and they were good!  Yay! thats a huge accomplishment for me.  Being a non-cook though, I never know how long veggies last, or if I should cook them all at once, etc.  Veggies always seem to go bad before I can use them.

Anyone have some food guidelines?

No candy for me!  Dinner last night....I cooked AGAIN!  I found the secret to making something taste good is bacon  I got a recipe for this 2 weeks ago and just tweaked it.  Brussel sprouts with bacon, pecans and grilled chicken tossed into baby spinach.

Total fail on the challenge for me.  For the second year in a row a neighbour sent their kid over for us to take out trick-or-treating while they boozed it up at their house.  The kid is a good kid so I don't really mind but it's the principle.  At least offer us a glass of wine!!!    Our lives are very hectic mid-week unlike theirs and so I just gobbled a bunch of chocolate bars while fuming!

In other news - puppy had a good Hallowe'en!  Ribbit!

I survived Halloween without eating a single piece of candy!  However, I will not report the number of beers I consumed while walking the 3 mile T-or-T route with the boys (let's just say I had enough to make my night's sleep absolutely ROTTEN).

Here is my pup (old man now - 12.5 years old) dressed as Yoda:

Ran 3 miles this morning.

I won't have any candy tonight, but will have a pumpkin martini. A yearly tradition.

Recipe please?

No idea! The bar we go to every year won't say what's in it. There are lots of recipes on the internet, though.

Fail would have been eating half the cake.. or half the bucket of ice cream.. small piece of cake is definitely a success :-)
