Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN axteraa - 2013-05-10 8:12 AM Well it was a learning experience just packing it in a different way. I still reinforced the front and rear forks with cardboard blocks I found and macgyvered a derailer protector out of a 2L pop bottle and bubble wrap. It's too hard for me to get off. The rear fork and derailer are also protected by the wheels on either side in reinforced compartments. mndymond - 2013-05-10 11:08 AM Busy week. BUT LEAVING FOR HAWAIIIIIIII TOMORROW! KONA TIME!!!! Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN mndymond - 2013-05-10 4:08 AM Busy week. BUT LEAVING FOR HAWAIIIIIIII TOMORROW! KONA TIME!!!! Nice. Weather has been pretty good recently, but we've been lacking the normal trade winds which makes things a bit humid. One of my training buddies was in Kona for a weekend training session and he said it was the first he ever rode up to Hawi with a slight tailwind instead of the normal gusting cross headwind. |

Elite 7783 PEI, Canada | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN I did our one and only TT this morning. 19.0 kms with ~600 feet of elevation - there isn't a lot of flat on this course, either going up or down. http://app.strava.com/activities/53625317 I finished in 30:00 (again with the :00) and 275 watts. Same TT last year was 272w and 31:37. Difference this year was my Flo 60 wheel up front and I think better tires. I'm not positive but I think I had Michelin Pro 3's last year and this year was a Gp4000s up front and a Vittoria EVO Triathlon on the back. There was very little wind this year as well - I suspect that played a big role in the faster time. Oh and I had the fastest time overall but none of the fast roadies or tri guys showed up so the field was a tad diluted. |

Master 2912 ...at home in The ATL | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN Hi all - I have been on an unintentional BT hiatus due to work+work travel. Seems I get slammed at the end of the semester even when I am not supposed to be working at all. Finally got a race report up for Rev3: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=487807 It is long and boring but if you skip to the bottom there is a cute picture of a cat. Ben, sorry I missed you at Rev3 - I somehow missed you were going to be there. Looks like you crossed the finish line a couple of minutes ahead of me - we must have been staggering around in the rain together. I always get race pictures, and for some reason the way the Rev3 folks do it it is way cheaper to purchase every picture they took than to buy individuals. So if you want yours I am happy to share? Arend - yet another awesome race - congratulations! You may have to give up that swimming thing for good. Melissa - have fun in Kona - it is great that you get to arrive there so far in advance of the race. Got my logs up to date, and now I have to catch up on all of YOUR race reports and inspires - thatnks for all of that last week. But first I gotta go cheer a friend on in our neighborhood Barbecue Competition. There might be adult beverages involved. |

I didn't really say anything. The less I talk about or am the subject of an upcoming race, the better it tends to go. Strange, but the coincidences are really piling up. I just wanted one picture from the bike, and already got that. Didn't quite realize that about getting all of them, but I'm good with what I have. FINALLY a decent picture on the bike, but of course I forgot to tap the tail of the helmet down after putting it on! It is long and boring but if you skip to the bottom there is a cute picture of a cat. Not a single one of the dogs was worth checking out??? |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN Got in a race pace bike/run brick today that was good and bad. Good because I had lots of power on the bike, bad because I used too much of it. LOL. The 3 mile run (supposed to be 4, but pulled the plug) wasn't a total disaster, but 13.1 miles would not have been pretty. That being said, I think I have my RPE, HR, and power metrics dialed in for Honu. The key will simply not being stubborn and stupid like I was today on the bike. I told myself 20 times to back off because the metrics were telling me to, but I simply ignored them at times.

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN So I'm melting. Lol. Jason, you wernt kidding when you said it has prob been a bit more humid. I did a 5k run once we got settled, groceries, etc--after dark--and I was red and drenched and had sucked back about 500ml of H2O. Alii Drive is hot!! haha. Going to stock up on some lytes/salt tabs when my friend and I go pick up her rental. I've decided I'm going to have to reverse my brick tomorrow and do my 90min run in the am before the sun and temp come in to play. I think I need a few more days before I'm hitting daytime runs. Kona! Kona! Kona! Kona! |

Lots of mountain bike rides, which I love. I finished Stage 2 this morning (decided to take advantage of the 50 hour days and go Saturday through Saturday, giving myself a cushion day in case I just can't get going!) -- not sure if it was riding hard a second day in a row or the fact that the garage is starting to get really hot (and my fans are obviously not doing enough to keep me cool), but I just fell apart on the last climb. Thinking about moving my trainer inside for the rest of the week/year! Hope the rest of the rides are as good as the first two have been. Keep up the good work |

Elite 7783 PEI, Canada | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia - OPEN KansasMom - 2013-05-13 12:13 AM I finally have swim video, thanks to my 12 year old son. Advice? Your body position is pretty good with nice rotation and you look very comfortable and relaxed in the water - very important IMO. You probably kick a little too much from your knees rather than the hips but the single biggest thing you can do to get faster is to work on the catch and pull at the beginning of your stroke to get your elbows higher. I attached a screenshot from your video. From the start of your stroke to this point, you are pushing water down rather than back. I'm terrible at describing swim technique but take a look at this page on TJ Fry's website. http://badig.com/2009/01/underwater-pull-the-high-elbow/ The side by side picture at the bottom shows the difference in the angles you want to achieve. This will also shift the muscles involved in the pull from the shoulder to more lats and triceps. If you can make the change, this will probably get those muscles tired and sore a lot sooner but stick with it because it is crucial to good power delivery.
