Tracy rockin the bike - CONGRATS! Linda and Hub - you are old and you got MUDDY! Suzy - or should I call you the SUZY-NATOR! Congrats on an awesome time in tough conditions. Fortunately, my race starts almost 2 horus after Tobey's tomorrow - 7:30. Find myself wishing this was an SBR instead of an RBR but I will take it! Happy early Fathers Day to all us dads! Good luck to everyone else racing tomorrow! George |

I think I raced my last race with a bent tire and my brakes were rubbing against it. Hubby said he actually saw it when I was coming into T2. I will post pics soon! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I made it though my second tri today. I wanted to nail the bike. And I went faster than I've even gone before. I had a strong head wind going out. Good thing I train in the wind because it was tough. Then coming back I tried to go as fast as I could with the wind and I hit 25 mph for the first time. So I feel pretty good about that. But my run wasn't that good. It was hot and I didn't hydrate well enough. So lesson learned prepare a carry a water bottle on the run. The next tri locally is in July. I haven't decided if I going to do it yet cause I'm planning on doing a MS 150 the weekend after. And the MS 150 is kinda like an A event for me. ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SSMinnow - 2010-06-19 6:00 PM Thanks for all the inspires and well wishes... I put it out there....6:08:21. This is a 14 min HIM PR, a swim, a bike and a run HIM PR to boot. I missed the elusive 6:00 goal I was aiming for, but couldn't be happier with myself. The swim was like nothing I could have ever imagined. I never thought it could be worse than yesterday, but waves were 4-5'. My actual time was 40:26 acording to Garmin 39:56, but I waited on shore to see where my trainining partner was--she wanted to swim together because she was nervous but we lost each other, got stripped and the mat was right before transition. Apparently 50 people were brought in off the course by boat inlcluding my training partner due to conditions. First 200 yards we heard a woman screaming for help....then a woman grabbed my leg and pulled me under asking for help....me? help? I could barely keep myself above the water line--I kept swimming because I was afraid she would drown me. I didn't know what to do. There were definite periods of fright ..ended up trying to go 10 strokes at a time and then vertical to site...sometimes it worked well and sometimes I found myself drowing in lake water. The bike went according to plan--well given the 25mph winds. I stayed right at around 80% FTP. I was on the SEVEN, but stayed aero nearly all the time....yeah me!! The run was entirely cross country which I never knew ahead of time--grass, hiking trails, rocks (yes, rocks), mud you name it--their descripton said parts are on a shaded trail ![]() The legs are sore, but my upper body is the worst. Never have my pecs, shoulders, tris/bis and lats hurt so much. Fricking Lake Winnebago! Paul's whole family is coming to our house tomorrow afternoon for a cook out so I need to start running around like a crazy person getting ready!!! Maybe I will be shuffling..... Awesome job Suzy! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We have someone who has an AG win to brag about.... And I was typing a big, long inspire to her about OWS but then figured I should put it here. There is/was concern about OWS times not measuring up to pool times. I totally experienced that in my last race. First off, remember that course measurements are less than exact. So don't get hung up on the pace -- compare yourself to others whose swim speeds you already know. See how you did compared to them. I feel like my OWS times are slower compared to my pool times/other peeps partly because the buoyancy gains they get with their wetsuits are greater than I get with mine (i.e. I am already buoyant in the pool so the wetsuit doesn't give me those gains as much). Did you wear a wetsuit yesterday? I also think there is some mental factor in not having a pace clock or a TRUE measured distance. For me I think that messes with my ability to go faster and push myself. Where I do OWS we swim among 4 buoys, and I think they are about 500 yards for an out-and-back. I've started timing myself for the out-and-backs and trying to push myself a bit harder. I think it's easy when doing OWS just to fall into an easy pace (for ME) and start losing time. Finally, I think the swimmers probably gain more time the longer the distance is (duh). I hope to see how that theory works out next week!! ![]() Linda (Havin'Fun) once mentioned to me some OWS strategies... perhaps she will bop in here and enlighten us? She rocked her IM swim... Great job racers and hope today goes well for everyone! (I was going to say I hope it goes swimmingly... ha ha!) |

Great job racers and hope today goes well for everyone! (I was going to say I hope it goes swimmingly... ha ha!) Funny you should bring this up, I was just thinking about it after yesterday. I have never been able to come close to 2:00/100 in the pool. The best I can do is around 2:15s. I totally agree distances can be off and have certainly seen that in certain local races...like no way I can swim a 1:35 a few weeks ago. But I am curious why I can hit 2s in OW-- is it the wetsuit? no wall for those of us who stop to turn? the sheer will to get out of the water as fast as possible? Really curious. |

But I am curious why I can hit 2s in OW-- is it the wetsuit? no wall for those of us who stop to turn? the sheer will to get out of the water as fast as possible? Really curious. I think the wetsuit is huge -- esp. for the non-swimmers. (Less huge for swimmers.) And yeah, the wall probably adds time too. Us swimmer-types do the flip turns and have worked for years to make turns FAST, but don't get that in the pool. In general, I find that my non-swimmer tri friends swim much faster in races. My swimmer tri friends are the same to slower. But I do think that, even if the swimmer folks are slower in OWS than they are in the pool, they still get the advantage of their swim not taxing them as much physically. When I did my 2.4-mile OWS with a friend recently, he was blown away that when I stopped I wasn't breathing hard -- I was just tooling along doing my swim, trying to get myself to go faster! |

Great job racers and hope today goes well for everyone! (I was going to say I hope it goes swimmingly... ha ha!) thought about this a little on my run. first off that a great point about comparing times to those you know as a gauge of your swim. as far as comparing open water to pool, there has to be a baseline somewhere of course, so we use the pool. however, maybe we need to put some distance on the relationship between the two. the way to do that, your point of looking at others swim times. timing between buoys is good. have you talked to the others you swim with about their times when you swim with them? |
