Figured it was from out biking my bike fitness ( and probably being fatigued from my horrible swim), then I ran across this post in ST Re: Imploding on the run--help [31CapeHorn] - NEW [In reply to] Quote | ReplyExpectations - within 10% of your open half marathon time is a good split at half iron. Fatigue mode, HR too high for a given effort or spiking whenever you run is a dehydration / heat issue. For early season half and full iron races it is difficult to get in the heat training to do well. You need to do these crazy overdressed rides and runs and trainer stuff to get the heat exposre. Calories, LOW hr for a given effort is an indicator of not enough calories. Maybe that is what happened at the Augusta race. A rule of thumb is 1.75 calories per pound of body weight per hour on the ride and 1.25 on the run. The poster is a doctor, I believe. Anyway, based upon this post, my issue was I was in fatigue mode and dehydrated. I usually finish sprints well under 2 hours and, as such, give little thought to hydration; but this was in between a sprint and oly and took over 2 hours; so I guess I paid for my haphazard hydration plan. I did drink on the bike, but had at least 1/2 a bottle left . Also, like many places, we had a weird winter and yesterday was the hottest weather I worked out in for some time, so I should have accounted for that too. Can't say I've ever noticed having too low a heart rate, so I guess my nutrition plans are ok. Anyway, I found the information interesting and thought I'd share in case anyone else has those kinds of issues. Food for thought - at least for me I'm glad that you got this figured out. How are you feeling today? Didn't you say that you had tonsil issues over the weekend? |

This is soooo cool! Good Luck, I hope they are going well. About 2/3 the price of the new bike...15 minutes to go...keep bidding, eBayers!! Wow! 2/3? That's pretty awesome. Do you have a pic of the new bike taped to your computer screen? |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED They're closed! Made it to 72.694% of the new bike price (before fees). I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for more, BUT this is great! I think I'll probably end up paying about $1,000 or less. That's assuming everyone pays for their auctions, etc. etc. of course. |

Started off the week by breaking both my 10 km and my HM Bests whilst on a long run, sweet, then, this mornings run gave me a new 5 km pb and have knocked off another 1 min 7 secs to bring me under 25 min barrier on ,y way to my sub 20 target . I am reading the JD book u recommended Salty, and so far, I'm liking it. I am already going to apply one of the teachings from it. That is, I'm gonna train at the current stress level for the next 6 weeks rather than raising the bar each time I pb. Hopefully reduce the risk of injury/burn out. Good luck to all the racing manatees out there this weekend, not that you'll need it. You've done the training, now reap the rewards. Nice training! I'm going to try that someday. Nah, all the best naturally talented athletes just wing it - well known fact. Edited by ArielLIlB 2013-04-08 3:49 PM |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Question - is it ok to go for an easy run today? I'm still feeling some soreness (mostly quads and some front knee irritation) from the HM yesterday, but it's GORGEOUS out today - spring has finally come to Massachusetts. Or should I just go for a nice walk? |
