KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!RR is up http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=171867&posts=2&start=1 Unfortunately due to the weather they had to move some volunteers so they only had our finish times no splits, I did remember some times vaguely but everything is an estimation. Happy that I think I ran a sub 8:00/mile 5k, should have had a faster swim and bike, I think some of my Transition time should come out of the bike so probably in the 21 mph range more than 22 to even it out. I glanced at the watch from time to time but was trying not to pay attention to time. |

KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!Havin'Fun - 2009-07-27 2:50 PM ashort33 - 2009-07-27 4:13 PM Question for the group: My next step up in distance is for an oly the last weekend of September. I am currently working an 8 week plan. I am think about a half marathon on Dec 13 - that is approximately 10 weeks later. Is that enough time to get myself from 10k distance to 13.1? I saw a plan on cool running for a twelve week bridge, but I am still 2 weeks short. Should I go ahead and sign up for the 1/2? I don't want to decide to do the race and it be full. Keep in mind that running is not my strongest discipline (yet...) Andy, I think it is totally doable. Remember the 1/2 will not have the swim/bike before hand. The one thing I would remind you is the training in late Oct, Nov, and early Dec could be cold weather. (I failed to factor this in for my March marathon training). Go for it! Cold weather in texas? Like what 60 degrees? DO it Andy...I'm planning a 1/2 marathon on Oct 9. Saw a 10 week plan on runningworld i believe and I'm getting ready to hit it. |

I haven't done a race report because I think I am too embarrassed! Enough said for now. I hope everyone had a better weekend than I did! You have nothing to embarrassed about - nothing at all. We are all proud of you for getting out there and finishing the race. Sometimes finishing is the victory! You persevered, overcame, and conquered! Too many others sat at home and did nothing - but you did not - it sounds like you had to dig deep and find the guts to finish. Check out your own sig line if you still doubt yourself! Ma'am - you have my respect! Andy X2 I think we are to often our own worst critics and fail to see the accomplishments we achieve by just competing. You completed an Olympic distance tri! You should be patting yourself on the back and not giving yourself a hard time. |

Karen I am going to X6 it or wherever we are...We doubt ourselves alot. Its human nature. I had a crappy run at my Oly last weekend. I was totally bummed. My wife said 'This is your 1st year doiong this. Look how far you've come from 2 years ago. 2 years ago could you imagine running 10k nevermind the swim and bike??" Its true we are our own worst enemies. Karen you've lost 165 lbs or something like that. Did you ever think back then that you would attempt the run or bike or swim? Nevermind combining them for 3 hrs or so. You finished and in that you should have proven alot to yourself. BE PROUD, WE ARE! ![]() |

You should be proud and learn from the exerience. We are proud of you and I second everything everyone has said. Andy - it is 20 weeks away from the 1/2 and 8 weeks from the olympic, I think they compliment each other nicely. Find a good 20 week training plan for the run and I'll bet there is a 10race somewhere around week 8! I think you'll be fine. Go for it! Heck, if I can do the swim and run of an Ironman and then run another marathon 8 weeks later.....LETS ALL BE CRAZY TOGETHER!! Tony, I had forgotten that race where you tried to quit on the swim. I think it is great that you TRIED to quit but couldn't b/c if you really had wanted to quit I'm sure you would have found a way. Deep down you knew you could do it. We all can! I think that was a sign from the SWMBKRUN MG God that no one quits at the swim in our group. First you, then I believe it was Roni who re-entered the water from the kayak break, Doug, myself, Karen. See, we are strong and fearless!!! |

That was so freakin' awesome. Talk about getting pumped. I learned more about the inner workings of an ironman from watching that video than I have from reading race reports. I never knew they racked your bike for you or handed you your T2 bag as you ran into the tent! Very cool! I don't remember which racer it was (he was body marked #1 and was the lead guy for a while) but he had 2 flats on the bike course and gave up. I wanted to cry all over my spin bike! |

Karen- x 100000000 You finished an Olympic triathlon! That is absolutely awesome!!! Just putting in the training and getting to the start line is an impressive accomplishment that most people never even dream of. You are amazing!!! Kim-Yay for the marathon! You know that would've been my vote. Andy-Congrats on registering for the 1/2! You'll do great! When I train for a running and tri event at the same time I just replace the running portion of the tri plan with my run training plan, allowing some time for taper and recovery. It worked really well for me when I was training for my first mary and Boise at the same time. |

But it looks like everyone did a great job this weekend. Fighting thru a rough day is, in my opinion, often times more impressive to me than a great finish. I know my most satisfying rounds of golf, for example, are the days that I really suck, but still manage to come in at 2 over par. Now golf isn't equal to tri, but it's mental. To stay on the mental track...I think my swimming has become all mental. I can cruise thru 40 meters, but then I catch a "land mark" at the pool and instantly I'm wiped out. My brain knows the wall is near. I'm in cruise control until that point, but that last 10 meters becomes a killer. So here I am spewing mental toughness and I can't get past this simple mark. I talked to an IM finisher (we sem to have a lot of them per capita in Seymour) and he said he has fought the same issue. He was scared of his first IM swim, but because he had no landmarks to know where he was he cruised right thru it. However, I am really feeling awesome in the water. Any suggestions for breaking thru this mental barrier in the water? |

Mine came after a couple hundred yards, I felt like I was done and really needed to stop and BREATHE. I found that after that sticking point, my breathing got "used" to the lack of oxygen, and it became easier. Seems like the body just gets used to the oxygen deprivation and deals with it. Although that is also assuming that you are not killing yourself and wearing yourself out in the first place. |
